Objectives: TMJ is the joint that connects the mandible to the skull, and it balances the body by holding the skull in the right position. The Meridian flows through the whole body. The objective of this study is to examine and clarify the relationship between the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and the Meridian flow, especially around the TMJ. Methods: We reviewed the literature on the 8 Extra Meridians and the 12 Main Meridians around the TMJ. Results & Conclusion: Eight Extra Meridians keep the balance and harmony of the TMJ, and also play an important role in maintaining equilibrium of Yin and Yang of the whole body. The 12 Main Meridians, twelve Meridian Divergence (12經別) and Meridian Sinew also play an important role in the balance and harmony of the whole body based on the function of the Vicera and Bowels (臟腑). So it is conceivable that the role of TMJ is important in terms of health care.

Geungyul(根結) means roots and nodes of meridians. If human body gets damaged by energy which each seasons has, the meridians get some troubles. Healing for symptom, meridians consist of root, stay, follow, inpouring and node of acupuncture points should be in harmony. 1. This chapter explain roots and node parts of each meridian, acupuncture points name and root, stay, follow, inpouring of acupuncture points which in arm and leg of three Yin and Yang. 2. The opening, closing, axis function, the symptom, and the needling of both meridians of Yin and Yang are explained. 3. The method that predicts the rise-and-fall of visceral energy and the time of death by using an order of pulse and intermittent pulse is explained. 4. It is explained that since the physical condition of the rich and the poor are different, the method using a needling for each person to be healed, such as the deep-and-shallow and the quick-and-slow, are different. 5. It is explained that the excess and the deficiency in the energy of shape should be considered when a acupuncture is given.

본 연구는 천연조미료(깨류)의 '맛[味]'을 동양의학사상의 음양오행(陰陽五行)의 '상생상극(相生相克)' 원리에 의한 우리 몸의 오장육부와 그에 상응하는 관계가 건강관리와 질병을 예방하는 측면에서 고찰하였다. 천연조미료인 깨와 동양의학의 융합연구를 위하여 동양의학의 고전인 황제내경(黃帝內經), 동의보감(東醫寶鑑), 및 전문단행본, 논문 등의 기록에서 분석하였으며, 깨류의 섭취는 친화성이 있는 장부와 오미(五味)[산(酸) 고(苦) 감(甘) 신(辛) 함(鹹)]를 섭취하면 장수시대에 '건강수명'을 연장하는데 기여할 것으로 본다.

This study purports to review traditional health concepts of Korea by age, and to compare them to health concepts defined in western societies. Furthermore the study offers these results as the basis of construction for Korean nursing theory. Literature for the review were traditional health books published in Korea. These books are Euibangyoochui, Hyangyakjibsungbang, Dongeuibogam, Eiyangpyun, Dongeuisoosebowon, & Hwangjaenaekyung. In addition, articles that studied traditional literature or Korean medical history were reviewed when no publication of a primary source was available. In ancient Korean society, health was viewed as a 'good relationship or harmony with a supernatural subject', 'harmony of earth, water, fire, and air', and a 'long life with no illness'. The treatment aspect of medicine was emphasized in the middle-aged society. The health concepts in the pre-modern society included such concepts as 'jeongkhibojeon', 'adjustment to the nature', 'harmony between yang and yin', 'strengthening of jeongkhishin', 'circulation of owoonyookchi', 'kyungjok mind-body state' and 'jeongshimjeonghang'. Major health concepts in western literature were 'adaptation', 'role performance', 'actualization of human potential', 'adaptation and actualization of potential', and 'comfort'. Traditional health concepts of Korea focus on principles. They deliver abstract meanings, which make their measures uneasy. They believe in holism and unity with nature and especially emphasize the mental aspect. On the other hand, health concepts of western societies focus on phenomena. Their meanings are somewhat concrete, which make their measurements relatively easy. They see a person adapts positively to the environment as an independent being from the environment. These concepts have biopsychosocial aspects with no partial emphasis in the mental aspects. These traditional concepts of health were classified into two main perspectives. One is the unity of heaven & man, and the other is the unity of mind and body. The former perspective is based on the main concept of Chi. The latter has the main concept of ruling of the mind. The two main concepts discussed above need further examination for development of a nursing theory for Korean society. The application of circulation of Chi needs balance and harmony, and the application of ruling of mind needs temperance.

본 논문은 감은사 금당지 석재의 태극문양 의미를 기하학적 도형원리를 통해 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 감은사의 태극문양에 대해서는 수리천문학적으로 해석한 것이 고작인데, 본 논문은 문헌을 바탕으로 기하학적 의미를 통하여 호국정신의 감은사 창건유래가 역사기록과 일치할 수도 있음을 규명하고자 하였다. 특히 창건유래와 지리적 위치, 당시 최고 교육기관인 국학에서 『구장산술』을 교육과목으로 한 점과 수학 지식들이 당 농업과 건축, 예술 등 모든 분야에 영향을 준 점에 주목하였다., 그리고 발굴된 금당의 구조가 약 60cm 높이의 석조유구로 지하공간을 이루고 있어 금당 아래에서는 동해 바닷물이 바로 감은사지 아래까지 들어오는 '문무대왕 수중릉→용지→용당'으로 이어지는 용수로의 흔적과 역사기록 등을 고려하면, 이를 전설이나 고사로 치부하기 보다는 해룡이 머무를 수 있도록 감은사를 창건했다는 유래와 깊은 상관성이 있다고 추정할 수 있다. 이를 바탕으로 금당지 석재의 태극문양과 태극의 좌우로 톱날과 같은 삼각형문양 해석의 실마리를 동양 천원지방(天圓地方)과 서양 원(圓)도형의 원주율과 관련된 원적(圓積)에서 찾아보았다. 결론적으로 태극과 삼각형 문양은 음양조화의 상징인 용(龍)과 신(神)을 나타내는데, 이는 창건유래와 부합하는 상징도형으로 우리민족이 신비한 용을 음양조화의 상징으로 보았고 이에 대응한 음양조화 도형인 태극문양을 사용하여 신성시해 왔다는 것으로 결론 내릴 수 있다.

The most distintive features on the Thinking Structure of the Views of the Nature and the Theories of the Medicine of the ancient Chinese are a Comprehensions to the System of the Nature which reveals in the Natural Phenomena. Nothing doesn't changed in the Nature and man also. These Changes are inevitable to the man. So it isn't easy to grasp the Essence of the Natural Phenomena which always be changed. I-Ching (易經, Book of Changes), Chung-Yung (中庸) and many other books are that has a theories about the Changes, the ancients could recognized the unchangeable constancy from the ever changeable Natural Phenomena. The unchangeable constancy on the Oriental thinking means as same as an 'Idea' on the Western thinking. These process made them shape up the Views of the Nature and the Medical theories. And Chi (氣), Yin-Yang (陰陽) and Wu-Hsing (五行) are the most important concepts of their views and theories. In the concepts of Chi as an epistemological meaning; the Nature and the Han can be appreciated as a one System, because his being is within the Changes of the Nature and should be in accord with those Changes. He was going to believe that all beings are exist as an existential rules of himself. So Chi can be thougt as an epistemological system to all beings' existence. Thinking of Yin-Yang as a existential meaning; all beings are exist having a contrary and a complementary to each other. Birth and Death, Be ginning and Finishing in a series of the process occurs in all beings are the two sides of their existential and intrinsic tendencies. That can be condensed to the Yin-Yang concepts. In the consideration of Wu-Hsing;all beings are observed and explained more deliberatively by it's own rules. By the way the concepts of Chi, Yin-Yang and Wu-Hsing which derived from the processes of the recognition to the Changes of the Nature are practiced actually by the thoughts of Harmony. And it is represented by the accordance to the Time of the Natural Changes, that is, Shiling (時令). It means a adjustments to the Time and Changes of the Nature. The health of all beings that is an aim of the Medicine can be maintained by their practical thoughts or the concepts of Shiling.

A Beoseonbongip is a pouch that holds patterns for making Beoseons. This study aimed to identify the aesthetic and symbolic contents of the embroidery patterns by analyzing the kind, combination types, expression and arrangement types of patterns. In total, 140 Beoseonbongip artifacts, which were mostly made in the Joseon Dynasty, were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The results indicated that about 83% of the total had flower patterns. Various kinds of embroidery patterns used for Beoseonbongips were newly identified. About 73% of the total had different kinds of patterns. Pattern combination types were identified by the kinds of patterns, the number of paired patterns, and the traditional painting styles used. The patterns of Beoseonbongips were expressed schematically more than realistically or abstractly. Beoseonbongips with different patterns on the four triangle tips of the front face and Beoseonbongips with the same/similar patterns on two opposite tips of the front face were observed more than the other types. On the back face, the embroidery patterns were symmetrically arranged, showing various division structures. It was inferred that wishes (e.g., marital harmony, fertility, good health and longevity, happiness, and wealth and fame) were expressed through the symbolic patterns embroidered on the Beoseonbongips. In terms of Korean traditional beauty, the union with nature, the harmony of yin and yang, symmetric balance, and neatness were also emphasized as a esthetic characteristics of Beoseonbongips.

We would like to understand we should follow the rules of nature by having 'bupaeumyang(法於陰陽) to the "sanggocheonjinron "上古天眞論" and the healthy living shall be made based on the balance of yin and yang, and in harmony with the nature mentioned in Sagijoshindaeron "四氣調神大論" so it is considered that this is the Yangsaeng(養生) usually mentioned in Oriental medicine. Therefore, we would like to present the exercise methods according to the season and would like to propose two most basic Yangsaeng methods of the gymnastics Yangsaeng method(體操養生方法) and the massage Yangsaeng method(按摩養生方法) stimulating Musculoskeletal(筋骨格) and acupoints (血位) directly by the caregivers among the various infants exercise in order to help their physical growth and development and to promote the interaction between parents and children.

Jaesuk-koli an important part of the 12 shamanistic rituals, is an accepted buddhist monk's costume. In this paper, the Jaesuk-kori costume and its meaning are studied. The ornaments of shaman's costume differe somewhat from region among individual shamans, but the symbolic meansing are fairly similar. The significance of Jaesuk-kori shaman's costume ar as followed ; First , a Buddhist monk's costume is accpted in the Jaesuk-kori ritual costume. Second, a shaman wears Jangsam (long-sleeved buddhist robe) and Kasa (surplice) in the Jaesuk-kori rituals. Third, the ornament of Sipjangsang objects search for earthly happiness while the rotus flower embroidered on the costume , depicts purity in the heaven world. Fourth, five colors in the Jaesuk-kori costume represented, Yin and Yang of universal harmony. Jesuk-kori ritual costumes signify that traditioal shamanism was accepted and absorbed into Buddhist rituals system.

Environmental medicine has interest in the effect of natural environment on the human health. Nature is usually understoodas' sky(天)' and 'earth(地)' which implies the harmony of humankind and nature(天地相應). As can be shown above, environment concept is the basic in Korean Medicine which originate in "Huangdi's Internal Classic" as clear medical form. According to "Huangdi's Internal Classic" man ought to abide by the nurturing 'Tao(道)' which is the way of life. This can be explained as the principle of balance, specially of yin(陰) and yang(陽) as is represented by the transformation of the energies from the universe. Life through the four seasons is also referred in the classic upon when four different climates have some effect on people, and the regional effect on health is also written there. Under the strict modem view, the achievement of the classic in the field of environmental medicine may be treated as primitive, but it was induced through long-term observation, so that once was state-of-the-art result at that time. But to solve the intrinsic weak points in traditional environmental medicine and also to harmonize with modern science to contribute to national health, the way of modem research can be applied to traditional concept on environmental medicine. Natural scientific approach is to avoid superstition and incantation. Strict method approach is to enhance accuracy and reliance in clinical observation. Overall, predictability can help develop the effectiveness and efficiency of diagnosis, treatment, recurrence, and prevention in environmental disease with holy method of Korean Medicine.
