  • The effect of plant hormones on the growth of lichen-forming fungi (LFF) was evaluated. The use of 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid and indole-3-butyric acid resulted in a 99% and 57% increase in dry weight of the lichen-forming fungus Nephromopsis ornata. The results suggest that some plant hormones can be used as inducers or stimulators of LFF growth for large-scale culture.

  • In children, the poor intelligence and failing of study from it raise problems in mentality, character and society. The poor intelligence and failing of study are closely connected with brain, Xin(心), Shen(神), Jing(精), Qi(氣). In this paper, studying causes of the poor intelligence and failing of study, through documents, I can obstain such conclusions. 1. Xin(心) takes charge of brain and manages life, mind and mentality. 2. Shen(神) controls mind and Jing(精) is the origin of life. So Shen and Jing must be built up for increase of memory and study. 3. For increase of intelligence and study, Qi(氣) must go round smoothly. 4. Causes of the poor intelligence and failing of study are the lack of blood, damage of Shen(腎), huo(火), phlegm etc.

  • NF733xin, the near allele line was obtained by means of crossing and backcrossing the silkworm race T6, which contained fluoride resistance major gene, to race 733xin, which was highly susceptible to fluoride toxicity. Two hundred RAPD random primers were used in the RAPD analysis of these 3 strains. Two molecular markers, OPB-08850 and OPB-10917, were obtained. OPB-10917 was used to detect the backcross generations. It was found that all the fluoride resistant individuals in each backcross generation had the same special band. These results proved that this marker was reliable.

  • Three species of Coccocarpia have been reported from Korean Peninsular. However, there was no revisional study on this genus before. After careful examination of the specimens deposited in the Korean Lichen Research Institute (KoLRI) and collected from main mountain areas of Korea, two species of Coccocarpia, C. palmicola and C. erythroxyli, have been revealed to occur and confirmed in South Korea. The presence and absence of isidia and apothecia are the most important characters for the South Korean species. We provide the detailed description and illustration of the available two species. A key to the species is also provided.
