Purpose: The present study attempted to find subjective musculoskeletal symptoms of operating room nurses (OR nurses) and then to use them as basic data for prevention and management of musculoskeletal symptoms of OR nurses. Method: This study was an exploratory research, and data were collected from OR nurses working in 8 polyclinics in Korea from July 26 to August 19, 2004, using a self-report questionnaire. The questionnaire contains items concerned with subjective musculoskeletal symptoms include ones with the presence of symptoms and with the degree of discomfort, in the joints such as neck, shoulder, arm/elbow, hand/wrist/finger and waist. For data collection, the aim of the study was explained to the operating room managers to obtain their help, and these questionnaires were sent to hospitals, and were retrieved by post. 271(90.3%) questionnaires were returned among those sent to 300 nurses. 249 questionnaires excluding 22 insufficient ones such as no response were used for data analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 12.0. Subjective musculoskeletal symptoms were analyzed in the number and percentage. Result: 187(75.1%) nurses said they 'had' subjective musculoskeletal symptoms and 62 (24.9%) said they had 'nothing'. 130(52.2%), 125 (50.2%), 113 (45.4%), 86(34.5%), and 42 (16.9%) nurses had subjective musculoskeletal symptoms in waist, shoulder, hand/wrist/finger, neck, and arm/elbow, respectively. 51(27.3%) and 136 (72.7%) nurses complained of the pain in one site, and in two or more sites, respectively. In particular, 51% and 47.4% nurses said that they were 'discomforted' due to the pain in waist and in shoulder, respectively. Conclusion: Subjective musculoskeletal symptoms which OR nurses complained of were significant. This may cause difficulty in nursing tasks in the operating room. So various arrangements have to be made for OR nurse with subjective musculoskeletal symptoms at an early stage.

This paper - following 'Functional requirement of marine waste cleaning ships and organization of the fleets'[1] - describes on the preliminary conceptual design procedure for the multi-purpose marine waste cleaning system for shallow waters. The working area of this system is Yellow Sea and part of South Sea of South Korea. As the first step, we determined the functional requirements including the daily target of waste collecting. Then, the preliminary conceptual design and general arrangements were carried out. In order to evaluate the safety and efficiency of this designed system, the stability check and the computer graphic simulation were carried out. Finally, the sea trial performance test of integrated systems in Yeosoo ports was performed and the designed system was shown its validity and effectiveness.

Background: Palliative therapies have an important role in increasing the quality of healthcare and in dealing with physical and psychosocial problems due to cancer. We here aimed to evaluate the managerial perspectives and opinions of the hospital managers and clinical directors about specialized palliative care centers. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in two large-scale hospitals in which oncology care is given with medical directors (n:70). A questionnaire developed by the researchers asking about demographic characteristics and professional experience, opinions and suggestions of medical directors about providing and integrating palliative care into healthcare was used and responses were analyzed. Results: Potential barriers in providing palliative care (PC) and integrating PC into health systems were perceived as institutional by most of the doctors (97%) and nurses (96%). Social barriers were reported by 54% of doctors and 82% of nurses. Barriers due to interest and knowledge of health professionals about PC were reported by 76% of doctors and 75% of nurses. Among encouragement ideas to provide PC were dealing with staff educational needs (72%), improved working conditions (77%) and establishing a special PC unit (49)%. An independent PC unit was suggested by 27.7% of participants and there was no difference between the hospitals. To overcome the barriers for integration of PC into health systems, providing education for health professionals and patient relatives, raising awareness in society, financial arrangements and providing infrastructure were suggested. The necessity for planning and programming were emphasized. Conclusions: In our study, the opinions and perspectives of hospital managers and clinical directors were similar to current approaches. Managerial needs for treating cancer in efficient cancer centers, increasing the capacity of health professionals to provide care in every stage of cancer, effective education planning and patient care management were emphasized.

This study is aimed to discover the deciding factors in senior employment programs for improving the quality of life for the elderly. The dependent variable used in this study was the quality of elderly persons. Personal and familial characteristics, and the community involvement of the elderly were used as independent variables in a Multiple Regression analysis. First, the most influential factor encouraging the elderly to participate in a senior employment promotion program was previous experience of senior employment programs. Second, health condition, residence in city areas, experience of volunteer work, and knowledge of senior employment programs had positive effects on the continuous participation of the elderly men and women. However, living arrangements had an effect solely on elderly men, and home ownership and participation in economic activities had effects solely on elderly women. Third, the life quality of the elderly was affected differently by sex. Health condition had the greatest effect on male elderly persons, whereas, the effective variable, the composition of the family had the most effect on female elderly persons. Thus, active campaigns through various mass media and information sessions are needed to promote participation in senior employment programs, according to the above mentioned deciding factors. In particular infrastructure providing the elderly with more volunteer work opportunity needs to be built for baby boomers to improve their quality of life. In addition, diversified senior employment programs are needed. Because the elderly living in city areas are more willing to participate in senior employment programs, specialized programs suitable for the elderly in city areas are needed. The government should also prepare programs that help the elderly stay healthy while they are working.

As research on the practical use of robots has continued since the past, advancements into each field of society are being continuously tried in modern society, breaking bounds from the previous experimental environment. However, in order for robots to be applied to the real environment, the production cost, which is considered to be the biggest disadvantage of commercializing the existing robot platform, and the adaptability issue in working environments in terms of human standards must be considered. This paper proposes a robot of biped walking form, which conforms to the degree of freedom and the size of human beings. By replacing the encoder with a combined module of potentiometer, the high cost of production is reduced, and by adopting a modular design that is easy to replace parts, the maintenance cost of robots is reduced. Finally, stability was verified by applying a walking pattern to two dummy robots of different sizes and motor arrangements. In this paper, after developing the real biped walking robots, the performance and usability were verified through walking experiments and applying the walking pattern using the developed robots.
This study has attempted to suggest the direction for child care policy for 0-2 year old children in Korea from analysis on the issues included in the policy for free child care services of the Korean Government. For the analysis, such materials as governmental statistical reports of child care and policy and articles regarding free child care service in daily news papers during 2012 have been collected. From this study, it has been suggested that the policy for free child care for 0-2 year old children, in future, should take into account reliably carrying out matemity leave and parental leave arrangements, equity childcare support for working couples, realization of parental subsidies, expand parental choice, introduction of a small family day care system, providing information and knowledge on the development of infants and parenting. The suggestions of this study will contribute to the development and practice of an effective child care policy for 0-2 year children, which consider the needs and requirements of young children and their parents.

Safety operation of main pipelines is primarily provided by anticorrosive monitoring. Anticorrosive monitoring of oil pipeline transportation objects is based on results of complex corrosion inspections, analysis of basic data including design data, definition of a corrosion residual rate and diagnostic of general equipment's technical condition. All the abovementioned arrangements are regulated by normative documents. For diagnostics of corrosion-technical condition of oil pipeline transportation objects one presently uses different methods such as in-line inspection using devices with ultrasonic, magnetic or another detector, acoustic-emission diagnostics, electrometric survey, general external corrosion diagnostics and cameral processing of obtained data. Results of a complex of diagnostics give a possibility: $\cdot$ to arrange a pipeline's sectors according to a degree of corrosion danger; $\cdot$ to check up true condition of pipeline's metal; $\cdot$ to estimate technical condition and working ability of a system of anticorrosive protection. However such a control of corrosion technical condition of a main pipeline creates the appearance of estimation of a true degree of protection of an object if values of protective potential with resistive component are taken into consideration only. So in addition to corrosive technical diagnostics one must define a true residual corrosion rate taking into account protective action of electrochemical protection and true protection of a pipeline one must at times. Realized anticorrosive monitoring enables to take a reasonable decision about further operation of objects according to objects' residual life, variation of operation parameters, repair and dismantlement of objects.

The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' consciousness of biomedical ethics and professionalism in general hospitals. Participants in this study were 163 nurses working in 3 general hospitals. Data analysis was done using SPSS / WIN 24.0 program. As a result of this study, the consciousness of biomedical ethics of the nurse was moderate. The highest sub-area was 'right to life of fetus' and 'artificial abortion' was the lowest sub-area. The professionalism of the subjects was moderate. The highest sub-area was 'reference professional group' and 'sense of mission' was the lowest sub-area. The nurses' consciousness of biomedical ethics was related to professionalism. Therefore, nurses should be educated to help ethical decision making so that they can have bioethical value and bioethical decision making ability according to the changes and demands of the times. In addition, institutional arrangements to improve professionalism should be provided.

The aim of this study was to analyze the work and life balance of unmarried working cases in single-person households. Eleven cases were interviewed with a semi-structured questionnaire. The results were as follows: When they were starting as a single-person household on their own initiative and with enough preparation and planning, they expressed higher satisfaction as a single person household. For their adaptation to being a single-person household, practice education and information about household work and self-care were useful. Their thought about 'life' are focusing on self improvement and leisure activities either alone or with their friends. Their family interactions were performed with financial, emotional, and housework support from each other. Resources such as money and time were the major factors that impacted work and life balance. For work and life balance of single person househods, the cases needed political support for financial aid and flexible work arrangements.

This study uses a structural equation model for the turnover intention of female nurses performing shift work at a tertiary hospital. Data collection was conducted from November 11 to December 20, 2015, and 283 samples were included in the final analysis. As a result, 12 of the 19 hypotheses of the final model were supported. It was confirmed that external employment opportunities, nursing professional value, nursing organizational culture, job stress, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and burn out accounted for 47.8% of the turnover intention. Burn out(+) and organizational commitment(-)had direct effects on turnover intentions, and nursing professional, relationship-oriented nursing organizational culture, and job stress showed indirect effects. Therefore, in order to reduce the turnover intention of female nurses working in shifts at tertiary hospitals, it is necessary to prevent burnout, increase organizational commitment, and job satisfaction. For this purpose, measures to strengthen relation-oriented nursing organizational culture and nursing professional intuition are required. In terms of hospital manpower management, the institutional arrangements of hospitals that enable flexible working hours adjustment, mutually respectful relationship-centered organizational culture, education, and policy support to reinforce nursing professional intuition, and the institutional system of hospitals to work with pride should be implemented.
