  • This study examined how the resources from work, family and community lowered family-to-work conflict (FWC) and enhanced family-to-work facilitation (FWF) of employed women with a child younger than 18 years old in order to provide empirical support for the Korean government's effort to create a family-friendly community as a way to help employed mothers balance work and family life. Information from 608 employed mothers living in 45 different communities were extracted from the 4th-wave of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families in 2012, while community resources indicators were selected from the 2012 database of the Korean Statistical Information Service. Findings from the HLM analysis were as follows. First, there were significant variation in FWC and FWF among employed mothers depending on the communities they resided in. Second, work satisfaction, representative of work resource, relieved FWC and enhanced FWF, but spousal support, which represents family resource, affected neither FWC nor FWF. Third, community resources, as represented by family-friendly environment and frequent volunteering by community residents, lowered FWC but failed to enhance FWF. Lastly, family-friendly community resources served to mitigate the negative relationship between work satisfaction and FWC. This study is meaningful in that it provided empirical evidence for the contribution of community resources to work-family balance of employed mothers.

Work-life Conflicts in the AEC Industry - A Comparative Analysis

  • The Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry has a culture of long working hours that sometimes extend to weekends. As a result, construction employees find it challenging to achieve a balance between their work and personal lives. It is believed that there is rarely a clear separation between employees' work and personal life in the AEC industry. This paper suggests that in order to attract and retain a talented workforce, AEC organizations have to cater for the diverse needs of employees with regard to work-life balance. This paper presents the results of a survey of both professional and managerial employees' perspective on work-life conflict issues in private and public AEC organizations. Perspectives were found to differ, although not significantly, by employees' experience, leadership experience, age and gender. Furthermore, most survey respondents noted that their employers did not have a policy or program in place supporting work-life balance initiatives. Finally, although the AEC industry is making strides to improve work-life balance, the effort is lagging behind other industry sectors in providing policies and programs to promote work-life balance through flexible work hours and various other means.

물류센터 근로자의 안전인식에 대한 요인분석 및 집단간 인식 비교 (Factor Analysis and Intergroup Awareness Investigation of Workers' Safety in Logistic Center)

  • This study is to examine the workers' awareness of the safety in logistic centers. For that purpose, the exploratory factor analysis of workers' safety awareness in logistic centers was performed at first, and the 6 variables extracted from the factor analysis were then used to investigate the difference in intergroup awareness of the safety environment in the logistic centers. We administered a survey to 147 workers attending the logistic centers and collected data from them. The results of the study showed that the intergroup awareness of the safety environment turned out to be statistically different from each other in terms of working environment, safe behavior, work risk, safety knowledge and effort, risk justification and compromising attitudes. Experiences in industrial accidents influenced awareness of working environment, work risk and risk justification. The group who experienced accidents is more likely to feel risky and unsatisfied with working place, and their awareness toward risk justification was high as well. It was also observed that there exists awareness difference between manager group and worker group. The group who manages the working place showed more positive awareness of working environment, safe behavior, work risk, safety knowledge and effort, risk justification and compromising attitudes than the worker group. On the contrary, the worker group showed high recognition in risk of working place, and felt that they are willing to compromise on safety for increasing production. The scale of the logistic center produced negative influence on awareness of safety. The group in small logistic center showed the highest awareness in safety, whereas the group in large logistic center with more than 100 workers showed the highest awareness in risk. They are more likely to deviate from correct and safe work procedures due to over-familiarity with the job, as well. The findings suggest that there is a need for the safety management and education to change the workers' understanding and attitudes towards safety.

Effect of Workplace Characteristics on Part-Time Apparel Sales Associates' Turnover Intentions

  • This study focused on the development of a conceptual model of the turnover intention of part-time sales associates in apparel retailing. A convenience sample of 294 college students who were part-time apparel workers was used to test the model. In this proposed model, organizational support and growth opportunity indirectly influenced turnover intention through work engagement, which in turn positively affected work effort, job performance, and job satisfaction. The results also revealed a direct relationship between work/role stress and burnout, which influenced turnover intention. These findings make a unique contribution to the extant literature and enable development of relevant strategies by apparel retailers.

  • Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are recognized as leading causes of significant human suffering, loss of productivity, and economic burdens on our society. WMSDs are associated with work patterns that include fixed or constrained body positions, continual repetition of movements, force concentrated on small parts of the body, cold environment and vibration. Main effort to protect workers from WMSDs should focus on avoiding repetitive patterns of work through engineering controls which may include mechanization, ergonomic design of tools and equipment, and workplace layout. Where elimination of the risk factors is not practical, administrative controls involving job rotation, job enlargement and enrichment, teamwork should be considered.

  • Tractor is a farm vehicle that is designed to provide a high tractive effort at low speed. It is used for versatile agricultural tasks such as hauling a trailer, tillage, mowing and construction work. Most older tractors use a manual transmission. However, as the intensity of work increases, tractors equipped with automatic transmission become popular due to the work convenience. In order to give the operator a large degree of control in field work, 24 gears with automatic 8-speed and manual 3-speed are arranged in transmission. This paper deals with the gear train that is designed for 8-speed automatic transmission by the engagement of multi-disk clutches. The gear ratio for each speed as well as power transmission mechanism is analyzed through velocity analysis. In addition, constraints of mesh gear ratio are derived by investigating the power flow path in velocity diagram for the given 8-speed gear ratio.

  • The computerization works and environment have been changed from simple transaction and data process request to system connection request, from data computerization to application work automation and process computerization through IT development and Internet spread. Recently, BPM(Business Process Management) concept has been widely propagated. It is expanding interest of business subject. Korea Railroad is operating train operation management system through 5 regional headquarters and organizations under the influence of each regional headquarter. But integrated operation and management of communication each department, work flow management and resources of depot equipment and materials have to need a lot of effort and time in huge organization as Korea Railroad. Therefore, this article realized Web Based BPM Group Ware. This article will define Korea Railroad organization and business process in using this Group Ware. And it will introduce Korea Railroad computer manage system of this Group Ware and efficient Korea Railroad Business Process through modeling and operating department work and resources management in Korea Railroad.

중대재해사례와 직업강도를 고려한 건축공사 위험성 평가 (A Study on the Risk Rate of Work Type According to the Fatal Accident Cases and the Work Strength in Construction Work)

  • Construction accidents have not decreased in spite of much effort such as new work methods, education and research related to safety works. Specially, many fatal accidents happened in construction works which involve the apartment, building, school, church, hotel, hospital, bank work and the other works. These accidents are mainly caused by unanticipated risk factors. From these reasons, this study researched fatal accidents which happened in construction works during last 13 years($1992{\sim}2004$) and analyzed the input workers and a work period of construction work. According to the input workers and a work period, the results are as following. During 13years($1992{\sim}2004$), the fatal accidents, related to the construction work, were happened to the 1,977 cases. These results were occupied the 21.32% of the total industry accidents. According to the result of the construction, the fatal accident rate of a concrete form work was the highest rate of 16.24% (321 cases) and a temporary work, a steel frame work was the each rate of 12.39%(245 cases), 10.07%(199 cases). Comparing to other work types, the fatal accident rate of those three work types(concrete form work, temporary work, steel work) was represented highly. We surveyed input workers and work period of construction work site. From the result of survey, input workers of a concrete form work were occupied with 13,720. The risk rate of the work type, which was considered input workers and work period, was represented 0.3622(a steel frame work), 0.1142(a temporary work), 0.0782(a tower crane) and 0.0772(a concrete work).

  • Domestic construction industry suffered from the IMF and makes a great effort to improve in 'cost management', 'strengthening the competitiveness of the construction industry'. Therefore, the industry has become interested in improving the productivity of construction and ongoing research is being progressed in various angles. In such circumstances, the needs for a study of concepts and space of the actual construction work place is emerging. This study were utilized BIM to understand the types and causes of problems in space during the finishing work in construction and categorize importance and frequency of occurence through a survey of experts and AHP to analyze the realtive effects of importance then modeling to them to aware of issues and give direction for efficient management. This study is anylize the problem which is caused by same time process in finishing work progress of apartment applied by BIM. and categorize the type of work interference management in finishing work, and anylize by the type of occurence then predict the work interference management through in BIM 3D VIEW and suggest the solutions.

  • 스마트폰를 비롯한 모바일 장비, 무선 네트워킹과 인터넷 등의 ICT 기술 진전은 일상생활 뿐만 아니라 제반 업무 수행의 방식, 비지니스 프로세스, 서비스 조직 운영 양태에 획기적인 변혁을 가능하게 하고 있다. 이러한 기술적 진전에 부응하여 제반 일을 보다 수월하고 효율적으로 수행할 수 있도록 하자는 노력의 일환으로, 많은 조직체들은 스마트워크 환경 구현에 관심을 기울이고 있다. 본 논문에서는 여러 가능한 스마트워크 유형들을 살피고 그러한 스마트워크 환경 구현을 위한 네트워킹과 시스템 구성의 구조와 서비스 시나리오들을 다루었다. 또한, 스마트워크 환경에서 핵심적인 응용으로서 컨퍼런싱 서비스의 호 설정 및 호 해지 절차와 아울러 그 서비스 시나리오와 사용 케이스들을 살펴보았다. 이러한 스마트워크 환경을 위한 구조와 서비스 응용에 대한 연구는 스마트워크의 환경 구현에 유용한 가이드라인으로서 사용될 수 있을 것이다.
