This study aims to deduce operational implication of R-WeSET program through women students in science & engineering and companies's perception and assessment on the basis of NCS key competency. The significant results are as follows. Firstly, companies and women students in science & engineering share a similar perception on importance of NCS key competencies. The programs should be reviewed and improved for women students who are truly aware of companies' needs. Secondly, the main areas of NCS key competency that are poor in companies' perception are 'positive thinking & drive', 'creativity & challenge spirit', 'communication skills' and 'problem-solving skills'. To enhance these weak skills, activating the actual programs such as "Convergence Design Camp", "Field Adaptability Improvement" and developing the new communication program are required. Lastly, most of women students have attained the satisfying result from "Field Competency Reinforcement Program". Especially, "Industry Field Training" shared the great progresses on all skills of key competency, hence why the progressive model should be developed in the future. This study figures out who's the right person for the 4th Industrial Revolution era, producing a meaningful result in order to change in the higher education system of women students and to grow human resources who will contribute to the community and company.
This study was designed to compare the dietary habits of women's university students according to residence type. The subjects were 140 females divided into four groups. The first group consisted of students residing at home with their parents (home, n=39), the second group consisted of students residing in a dormitory (dormitory, n=34), the third group consisted of students residing in a boarding house (boarding, n=36), and the fourth group consisted of self-boarding students (self-boarding, n=31). The average age was 21.9 years, and the BMI levels of the groups were $20.8kg/m^2$, $19.6kg/m^2$, $20.5kg/m^2$, and $19.7kg/m^2$, respectively. The 'home' group had higher dietary regularity than the other groups (P<0.05). The boarding group and self-boarding group were more likely to eat out and skip breakfast than the home and dormitory groups (P<0.05). All groups indicated that frequency of snacking was higher than 1 time per day, but there was no significant difference between the groups. The dormitory and boarding groups spent less time consuming meals than the other groups. In conclusion, women's university students show different dietary behaviors according to residence type. Especially, the dormitory, boarding, and self-boarding groups need to improve their dietary habits through high quality education and nutritional support at college cafeterias.
Purpose: The purpose of study was to explore the frequency of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) among female university students and identify self-esteem, depression, and physical health. Method: The secondary analysis was performed. A total 401 university female students were recruited from 1 university in Korea. IBS was diagnosed based on the Rome III criteria. The questionnaires included Rosenberg's self-esteem scale, Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression(CESD) scale, and physical health questionnaire developed by Lee. The collected data was analyzed with SPSS Win 15.0 statistics program using frequencies, percentages, ANOVA, and the Pearson's correlations of the variables. Result: The frequency of IBS was 26.7% in students. All women had mixed constipation and diarrhea subtype of IBS. Compared to the women without IBS, those with IBS reported significantly lower scores on self-esteem and higher scores of CESD and on the physical health questionnaire. Conclusion: Nursing interventions targeting female students with IBS should be developed in order to reduce the depression and physical health problem and improve self-esteem.
The purpose of this study was to compare the anthropometry and nutrition knowledge, food behaviour and lifestyle of women college students with different obesity indexes. The subjects were 251 women college students who were randomly selected from Kunsan National University. The height, body weight, soft/lean mass, fat mass, percentage of body fat, and fat distribution were measured, and health-related lifestyle habits were evaluated based on questionnaires. The subjects were assigned to one of the following groups based on their Body Mass Index (BMI) : underweight, normal weight and overweight. The results were as follows. Their body weight, soft/lean mass, fat mass, percentage of body fat, and fat distribution were significantly higher in the overweight subjects when compared to the underweight or normal weight subjects. Standard of living, self-recognition of health status and duration of exercise were significantly correlated with their BMIs. Self-satisfaction with body weight decreased as the BMI increased. Most subjects had poor habits such as skipping meals and lack of exercises. The overweight and the underweight groups skipped meals more frequently than the normal weight group. There were no significant differences in the scores on the nutritional knowledge and the dietary behaviour of the subjects with different BMIs. Therefore, proper nutritional education on regular meals and intervention are required if women college students are to have normal weights and healthy lifestyles. This study explored the eating attitudes, dieting habits, weight perception and exercise behavior of Korean women. Self-reported questionnaires were administered to 724 Korean college students. Compared to males, female students felt themselves overweight and dissatisfied with their body and desired to lose weight although both groups were within the range of the national standard. Female students dieted more, while males exercised more. Eighteen percent of females showed disturbed eating behavior. The score for disturbed eating behavior was highly related to weight perception in the female students. These results suggest that Korean college women have a high prevalence of eating disturbances without having actual weight problems. A majority of the women desired to lose weight which may be due to the misperception of their body weight and fatness. However, they did not adopt appropriate strategies such as doing regular exercise to reduce their body weight.
The present study focused on the color of clothing for elderly Korean women, from the viewpoint of helping elderly people live more interesting lives with regard to their clothing, considering that the Korean society will become elderly-oriented in the near future. We took photographs of the elderly served as the models, displayed them on a computer screen, and produced 75 colors of the clothing in the elderly using computer graphics. The 75 colors were evaluated by 2 groups, one of elderly Korean woman group and a group of female students. We compared the ideal colors for and the colors actually worn by elderly people. The evaluation of the clothing colors for elderly women differed between the elderly woman group and the female student group. Analysis of images of the clothing colors selected by the elderly women showed that they attach importance to elegance when selecting clothing colors and have a strong desire to become active. The images held by female students concerning ideal clothing colors for elderly women closely pertained to commonness and inactivity.
This study investigated various attributes that contributed to successful employment in order to develop employment support programs, especially for female engineering students. We surveyed engineering students who graduated between 2006 and 2011. The 401 employed graduates participated in an online survey. The surveys inquired about their attachment towards their major, participation in various academic and non-academic activities, and their participation's contribution to their successful employment. In regards to their majors, women, in general, had lower levels of satisfaction, confidence, attachment, and motivation to succeed in their fields when compared to their male counterparts. These results show that engineering colleges still need to work on empowering female engineering students to gain confidence in their engineering major and attachment. The graduate school experience was highly rated by both men and women, whereas double majors exhibited somewhat lower scores. Among academic activities, part-time work experience and major-related internships were rated as the most helpful, and among extracurricular activities, study-abroad for language training and participation in student council or clubs received high scores. There was little difference between men and women in study-abroad participation, and women participated more actively in student councils. However, women had much less major-related work experience, reaffirming that colleges need to expand internship and field experience programs for female students.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the relationship between college students' acceptance of the rape myth and variables in gender-role attitude, which have been known to forecast the acceptance of the rape myth. Method: This study was a survey research. Data were collected from May 1, 2006 to February 31, 2007 with 240 undergraduate students. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and regression analysis with SPSSWIN 12.0 program were used for data analysis. Results: Men were more acceptable to the rape myth than women. Men were very likely to see the occurrence of rape incidents as the rapist being provoked by women, and this attitude made them misunderstand and perceive women as responsible for the occurrence of the incident. Women on the other deny their idea. As a result of analyzing the difference between males and females in attitudes related to gender-role, male students were shown to have a much more traditional and patriarchal attitude than female students. Conclusion: It was found that a hostile attitude toward women and the justification of violence to others act as the main factors in forecasting the acceptance of the rape myth.
The purpose of this study is to measure the overall level of consumer consciousness and behavior environmental problems of college women students and to analyze influencial factors. Five hundred and sixteen college women students were selected randomly, in Kwangju area. The methods of data analysis were Frequency Distribution, Mean , Percentile, one-Way ANOVA , Scheffe-test . Pearson's Correlation, and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. Major finding are as follows; 1) The consumer consciousness and behavior an environmental problems of college women student showed significant differences according to the grade, age, major, socio-economic status, consumer education experience environmental problems, and frequencies of contacting mass media. 2) The consumer behavior on environmental problems of college women students had a positive relationship with consumer consciousness on environmental problems. Based on the above findings , this study suggests the followings; first the consumer education as a formal program is needed for the improvement of the consumer consciousness and behavior of college women student. Second. The content of the consumer education must emphasize more clearly the consumer rights in order to improve consumer's consciousness and behavior of environmental problems. Third. mass media of TV, radio, newspaper, magazine must be more active publicity and instruction in order to improve consumer's consciousness and behavior on environmental problems.
This study investigated difference of general eating habit and eating-out behavior between men and women of university students in Gyonggi area. The survey was conducted from 1 March to 1 April 2010, in Gyeonggi area. Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 250 students in Gyeonggi area. The research results show, first of all, that they eat twice a day, and they usually do not eat breakfast. The main reason why they do not eat breakfast is that they do not have enough time to eat. Between men and women, there is significant difference in eating amount and eating speed at 0.001 levels. Men's problems of eating behavior are irregular meal time and speed of eating time, and in case of women, they do not have a meal regularly and overeat at one time. Second, they usually eat out for a meal and gather with friends once to three times a week. Also, the lunch set-menu promotion is the most preferred one. Third, when men choose a restaurant, they consider in order of taste, convenience, amount, and service; women consider in order of atmosphere, taste, convenience, and service. Taste is the most important for men; atmosphere is the most important consideration for women. Taste (at 0.01 levels), sanitation (at 0.05 levels), and atmosphere (at 0.001 levels) are significantly different between men and women in choosing restaurant.
