  • At present, indoor optical wireless communications using LED lightings has been widely studied. The combination of this technology to the low voltage powerline grid installed in each home makes an efficient method for fulfilling the premise of broadband access for home networking. In this paper, white LEDs were used for both illumination and remote-control, so that information can be broadcast within a room for control the optical wireless systems. We implemented a model car to evaluate the performance of optical wireless remote-control. The requirement for levels of illumination suitable for communication were investigated and applied to design the test-bed. In spite of limitation of line-of-sight communications, it will open up new applications to the optical wireless remote control system in an electromagnetic interference region.

  • This paper describes development of real-time condition monitoring system to observe state of a container crane in a port. To analyze the state of a crane, the strength and the direction of wind are measured with sensors along with the load resulted a crane at the moment. The measured signals are processed by especially developed conditioning board and converted into digital data. Measured data are analyzed to define the state of the crane at an indicator. For transmission of these data to the indicator, we implemented wireless sensor network based on IEEE 802.15.4 MAC(Media Access Control) protocol and Bluetooth network protocol. To extend the networking distance between the indicator and sensor nodes, the shortest path routing algorithm was applied for WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) networks. The indicator sends the state information of the crane to monitoring server through IEEE 802.11 b wireless LAN(Local Area Network). Monitoring server decides whether alarm should be issued or not. The performance of developed WSN and Bluetooth network were evaluated and analyzed in terms of communication delay and throughput.

  • As a core area of the new computing paradigm, the Ubiquitous Sensor Network Technology utilizes a wireless sensor networking which can be applied to the Context Information Monitoring System. When the technology is used in a poor user-environment for monitoring purposes, it can cost-effectively gather the context data on real-time basis, analyze the information gathered, effectively response to the user situation, and execute orders to create environmental factors desired by the user. This study structures a system able to monitor information in regards to a user-environment based on wireless-node sensor technology coupled with the Ubiquitous Sensor Network Technology. The proposed system requires a minimal collection of data without continuous monitoring. Monitoring periodically, it can sense the user-environment more efficiently than the existing monitoring technologies based on the wire-communication technology.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive mode switching algorithm between two strategies in multiple antenna cellular networks:A single-user mode and a multi-user mode for the broadcast channel. If full channel state information is available at the base station, it is known that a multi user transmission strategy would outperform all single-user transmission strategies. In the absence of full side information, it is unclear what the capacity achieving method is, and thus there are few criteria to decide which of the myriad possible methods performs best given a system configuration. We compare a single user transmission and a multi user transmission with linear receivers in this paper where the transmitter and the receivers have multiple antennas, and find that neither strategy dom inates the other. There is instead a transition point between the two strategies. Then, the mode switching point is determined both ana lytically and numerically for a multiple antenna cellular downlink with correlation between transmit antennas.

  • Accelerated by the Internet of Things (IoT), the need for further technical innovations and developments within wireless communications beyond the fifth generation (B5G) networks is up-and-coming in the past few years. High altitude platform station (HAPS) communication is expected to achieve such high levels that, with high data transfer rates and low latency, millions of devices and applications can work seamlessly. The HAPS has emerged as an indispensable component of next-generations of wireless networks, which will therefore play an important role in promoting massive IoT interconnectivity with 6G. The performance of communication and key technology mainly depend on the characteristic of channel, thus we propose an efficient Markov chain based channel model, then analyze the HAPS communication system's uplink capability and swing effect through experiments. According to the simulation results, the efficacy of the proposed scheme is proven to meet the requirements of ubiquitous connectivity in future IoT enabled by 6G.

  • Precision agriculture relies on information technology, whose precondition is providing real-time and accurate information. It depends on various kinds of advanced sensors, such as environmental temperature and humidity, wind speed, light intensity, and other types of sensors. Currently, it is a hot topic how to collect accurate information, the main raw data for agricultural experts, monitored by these sensors timely. Most existing work in WSNs addresses their fundamental challenges, including power supply, limited memory, processing power and communication bandwidth and focuses entirely on their operating system and networking protocol design and implementation. However, it is not easy to find the self-localization capability of wireless sensor networks. Because of constraints on the cost and size of sensors, energy consumption, implementation environment and the deployment of sensors, most sensors do not know their locations. This paper provides maximum likelihood estimators for sensor location estimation when observations are time-of arrival (TOA) range measurement.

  • Wireless mesh networks can be deployed for various networks from home networking to last-mile broadband Internet access. Wireless mesh networks are composed of mesh routers and mesh clients. In these networks, static nodes form a multi-hop backbone of a large wireless access network that provides connectivity to end-users' mobile terminals. The network nodes cooperate with each other to relay data traffic to its destinations. In order to increase connectivity and better performance, researchers are getting interested in multi-channel and multi-interface wireless mesh networks. In these networks, non-overlapping multiple frequency channels are used simultaneously to increase the aggregate bandwidth available to end-users. Recently, researches have focused on finding suitable channel assignments for wireless network interfaces, equiped in a mesh node, together with efficient routing to improve overall system throughput in wireless mesh networks. This goal can be achieved by minimize channel interference. Less interference among using channels in a network guarantees more aggregated channel capacity and better connectivity of the networks. In this thesis, we propose interference aware channel assignment and routing algorithms for multi-channel multi-hop wireless mesh networks. We propose Channel Assignment and Routing algorithms using Traffic Profiles(CARTP) and Routing algorithms allowing detour routing(CARTP+2). Finally, we evaluate the performance of proposed algorithms in comparison to results from previous methods using ns-2 simulations. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithms can enhance the overall network performance in wireless mesh networks.
