Tunnel Inspection and Monitoring System by Wireless Sensor Network (무선센서네트워크를 이용한 터널 모니터링 시스템)

  • In this paper, we deployed the tunnel inspection and monitoring system by wireless sensor network. It is shown that the wireless sensor network which is composed of sensor, wireless communication module, and gateway system can be applied to tunnel monitoring system. Sensors included herein are acceleration transducers, fire-alarm sensors, water-level sensors, and magnetic contact sensors. It is also found that the wireless sensor network can deliver sensing data reliably by ad-hoc networking technology. The gateway system that can send the sensing data to server by CDMA (code division multiple access) is developed. Finally, monitoring system is constructed by web service technology, and it is observed that this system can monitor the present state of tunnel without difficulties. Furthermore, the above system provides an alternative to inspect and monitor the tunnel efficiently where the conventional wired system cannot be applied.

  • Telemetry system is a system that measures and transmits status information in the aircraft to the ground. The data received from the ground is information for monitoring the state of the aircraft, and can be checked and analyzed in real time through the test program. Data processing test system for telemetry currently in operation is built to transmit data using wired communication and perform test. As smart devices become popular due to the continuous development of information and communication technology, wireless communication networks are becoming important, and technologies for improving performance are steadily being developed. In this paper, we suggests and builds data processing ground test system for telemetry using wireless communication(Wi-Fi) that can be checked through smart devices such as tablets, in order to break away from the existing method and apply future-oriented technology. Finally, the suggested test system performance was proved by testing in various environments by linking test equipment and test program.

  • With the success of wireless technologies in consumer electronics, standard wireless technologies are envisioned for the deployment in industrial environments as well. Industrial applications involving mobile subsystems or just the desire to save cabling make wireless technologies attractive. Nevertheless, these applications often have stringent requirements on reliability and timing. In wired environments, timing and reliability are well catered for by fieldbus systems. When wireless links are included, reliability and timing requirements are significantly more difficult to meet, due to the adverse properties of the radio channels. In this paper, we thus discuss some key issues coming up in wireless fieldbus and wireless industrial communication systems.

A Study on Vulnerability Factors of The Smart Home Service ('스마트홈 서비스'의 보안취약요인에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the era in which various services using smart devices are used is sometimes referred to as the so-called "smart era". Among these, Smart Home Service' have not only brought about significant changes in the residential environment and culture, but are evolving very rapidly. and The 'Smart Home Service' provides more convenient services to users through communication between various electronic products in general homes, and has a bright future in the future. In particular,'Smart Home Service' provides various services combined based on IoT(Internet of Things) technology and wired/wireless communication in connection between various devices. However, such a "smart home service" inherits the security vulnerabilities of the underlying technologies such as the Internet of Things and wired and wireless communication technologies, and accidents that lead to the leakage of personal information and invasion of privacy continue to occur. So, it is necessary to prepare a countermeasure and prevention against the weak factors of the underlying technologies. Therefore, this paper is expected to be used as basic data for future application technology development and countermeasure technology by examining various security vulnerability factors of 'Smart Home Service'.

  • Many surveillance cameras used in security system are controlled with RS-485 communication protocol. In this situation, if RS-485 connection can be replaced with wireless connection using sensor network technology, an installation will become ease because of no wired connection and also a deployment of cameras will become free. This paper explains about the design of wireless sensor node and the necessary implementation for an operation, which can be replacing RS-485 connection for the development of CCTV control system based on wireless sensor network. The hardware platform of sensor node was designed based on MicaZ and the software was developed based on TinyOS. To control surveillance cameras deployed on wide area, the supporting of multi-hop also was implemented. With the result of experiment deploying on real environment, it was revealed that the controller could control cameras quickly with wireless.

A study on improving TCP performance in mobile communication systems with a high transmission error (전송오류가 큰 이동통신 환경에서 TCP 성능 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Conventional TCPs are designed to work efficiently on wired network where any transmission errors rarely take place. However, the probability of transmission error in a wireless network is much higher than in a wired network, due to pass loss, multipath fading, and many kinds of interference. There were many researches on preventing the degradation of TCP performance in these wireless networks with bad channel condition. One of these researches is the SNOOP protocol which is link-layer solution for achieving high throughput of TCP. However, this SNOOP protocol is apt to retransmit some TCP segments unnecessarily, which could cause some increased traffic loads in a wireless network. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to prevent the unnecessary retransmission of TCP segments and to achieve increased performance of TCP.

Development of real-time monitoring system using wired and wireless networks ina full-scale ship

  • In the present study, the real-time monitoring system is developed based on the wireless sensor network (WSN) and power line communication (PLC) employed in the 3,000-ton-class training ship. The WSN consists of sensor nodes, router, gateway and middleware. The PLC is composed of power lines, modems, Ethernet gateway and phase-coupler. The basic tests show that the ship has rather good environments for the wired and wireless communications. The developed real-time monitoring system is applied to recognize the thermal environments of main-engine room and one cabin in the ship. The main-engine room has lots of heat sources and needs careful monitoring to satisfy safe operation condition or detect any human errors beforehand. The monitoring is performed in two regions near the turbocharger and cascade tank, considered as heat sources. The cabin on the second deck is selected to monitor the thermal environments because it is close to the heat source of main engine. The monitoring results of the cabin show the thermal environment is varied by the human activity. The real-time monitoring for the thermal environment would be useful for the planning of the ventilation strategy based on the traces of the human activity against inconvenient thermal environments as well as the recognizing the temperature itself in each cabin.

Implementation of WAP Gateway Agents for Wireless Communication Efficiency Improvement (무선통신 효율 향상을 위한 WAP 게이트웨이 에이전트)

  • Recently, researches on various base technologies for wireless Internet services have been conducted. In the WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) Forum, a WAP gateway which does mutual conversion between existent wired Internet protocols and WAP protocols was proposed. In this paper, CSA(Client Side Agent) and SSA(Server Side Agent) for WAP gateway environments are designed and implemented, as a way of improving communication efficiency in such restrictive environments as wireless communications. Located on mobile WAP devices(CSA) and a WAP Gateway(SSA), the agents perform communication efficiency improvement activities such as a packet header reduction mechanism and a data reduction mechanism using data differencing analysis in order to reduce the size of data transmission in wireless communication environments. The Internet phone emulator of Phone.com is used in order to make sure that the implemented agents work correctly, Experimental results show that the implemented agents reduce the size of data transmission significantly.

Performance Analysis of TCP with Adaptive Snoop Module in Wired and Wireless Communication Environments (유/무선 통신 환경에서 적응형 Snoop 모듈을 이용한 TCP 성능 분석)

  • TCP works well in wired networks where packet losses mainly occur due to congestion in data traffic. In wireless networks TCP does not differentiate packet losses from transmission errors or from congestion, which could lead to degrade the network performance. Several methods have been proposed to improve TCP performance over wireless links. Among them the Snoop module working at the base station is the popular method. In this paper, it is shown that the performance of Snoop largely depends upon the transmission link errors and the amount of data traffic. Also, our research shows that the local retransmission timeout value of Snoop can affect throughput. From the simulation results we suggest how to effectively use the Snoop algorithm considering data traffic and transmission link errors. It is expected that the proposed adaptive method will contribute to improving the network performance reducing the burden of the processes for data traffic.

  • The Intelligent Home provides convenient and comfortable living environment by performing automatic control, heating and air-conditioning, ventilation, home appliances control, home robot control, energy management, visitor management security management, internet, heath state monitoring, etc. through wired/ wireless network and device in the household. Along with the presentation of the features of economical broadband power line communication in the network configuration for new and old houses, its improvement method is proposed.
