  • This survey on the housing consumers in the Daegu region aims to understand their needs for differentiating design items, which are now regarded to be essential factors to take the lead in the apartment housing market. The survey questionnaires on the differentiating items in six categories, were filled by 135 apartment households in Deagu, and the answers on each item were analyzed according to their home size and age. For the general apartment plan, the strongest need was found in the energy saving design; and larger windows for a fine view are significantly favored by the older households. For the unit design, more households were interested in the design items related to the kitchen or subsidiary-kitchens. For the storage space design, enough space for ampler storage was desired the most. For the interior design, prevailing needs for the use of environment-friendly furnishing materials and the non-slippery flooring of bathroom were found. For facilities and up-to-date system design, most of households displayed their interests in noise-proof doors. For the environment design of the complex, the need for a walk passage was highest in general.

  • Recently, building requirements have been saturated and residents are demanding a variety of building exterior materials faced with roofs, walls, windows and doors. On the other hand, when building exterior materials are exposed with ultra violet rays during some periods, these will be influenced deterioration effects like discolorations, exfoliations and cracks and will be needed exchange of materials. In this study, main 17-provinces of Korea were collated climate data and counted the computation results with an assumption formula for calculating ultra violet rays amounts. Lastly, ultra violet rays map of Korea was made by the counted data and was considered tendencies. Accordingly, in the phase of design the designer can select the appropriate exterior materials which have durabilities and resistances of ultra violet rays. So hereafter this study can be a foundation study to sustain building exterior materials with ultra violet rays damages. Below is the summary of Korean ultra violet rays tendency. 1. Ultra violet rays during 1 year is from about $180MJ/m^2$ to about $210MJ/m^2$. 2. Southern province ultra violet rays is higher than northern province. 3. Annually counted rays is higher and higher.

  • As coffee's taste and scent are emphasized, and interior atmosphere has changed along with sale of brand's own products, there are also epochal trend changes in interior. So, changes within the space should be focused onto open type self coffee shop, a new cultural space distinguishable from existing coffee shops. Therefore, in this study, the following results could be obtained by performing customer-centered, spatial structural characteristics research on 5 take-out coffee shops opened after 2005 that are practicing self service in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do regions. In this study, it was shown in the above results that location of the entrance, kitchen, and condiment bar, area per person, size and positioning of furniture, area of windows and doors, etc have strong influences for self service which customers themselves carry their food. Therefore, in planning the interior of self coffee ship in the future, presentation of more effective and practical space based on this analysis will be required.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop basic data for the efficient space plan of the Department Store focusing on users by survey of preference to methods of plan considering the functional phase, the economical phase and the adaptable phase. The results are as follows : First, we could know that users had the low degree of satisfaction to the adaptable phase of space plan for Supporting Facilities in department stores at the present time. Second, we must have the appropriate space size by using structure, doors and windows for user's satisfaction. This is the method of plan considering the functional phase for Supporting Facilities. And we could think that the methods of using the center flow plan and the arrangement of two or three facing are good for user's satisfaction. Third, it will be efficient plan if we find methods to be cleaned the structure easily and to be changed and repaired the system furniture easily for management. that methods are to be considered the economical phase for Supporting Facilities. Forth, methods of plan considering the adaptable phase are to change the size of space by using the movable type furniture and the form of space by changing structure.

  • In this study, we have investigated the maximum smoke density and the initial stage smoke density in order to see the characteristics of smoke release of the architectural surface materials and the architectural adhesives, using smoke density chamber. As a result of the study, polyurethane foam showed the highest smoke density index, 206.55 within 10 min. In the case of the other samples, reinforced styrofoam was followed as 39.90, general styrofoam 33.73, and glass fiber 5.40, respectively. In the intial stage of a fire, it is forecasted actually to give hardship at the clear visibility. In the case of architectural adhesives, the highest ranking was those for windows and doors 509.64, stone 275.63, wood 232.25, tile 18.65, and styrofoam 6.44 were followed, respectively. This result is an early research to show characteristics of smoke release through experiment. However, it is meaningful that this study can be used as a basic for further study on architectural fire hazard prediction.

  • This paper presents the design and construction details of a soundproof enclosure for housing 20 KVA diesel generator-set. As the generator had to be installed close to the hospital building, it was desirable to reduce the transmission of noise by housing the generator in such an enclosure. The diesel engine being an air cooled one, it was essential to supply fresh air into the enclosure for its cooling. Forced inflow of air is provided through an inlet duct located in such a way that the incoming fresh air is thrown close to the inlet of cooling fan of the engine. The high velocity air stream, which heats up while passing over the engine head, escapes to the atmosphere through a rectangular outlet duct with enlarges inlet that receives hot air from the engine. The air ducts were designed specially and have been provided with acoustic lining for sound absorption. The masonary enclosure has been provided with double glazed fixed windows and double doors. The exhaust pipe of the engine fitted with a muffler has been taken out through the enclosure wall facing away from the hospital. Acoustic performance studies conducted in terms of attenuation provided by the enclosure at different frequencies have also been presented and discussed. The noise control measures adopted for building the sound-proof enclosure have been found to be quite effective as the noise levels inside the hospital building are now within the acceptable limits.

  • The use of drones and laser scanners have the potential to drastically reduce the time and costs of conventional techniques employed for field survey of cultural heritage buildings. Moreover, point cloud data can be utilized to create an as-built Building Information Model (BIM), providing a repository for consistent operations information. However, BIM creation is not a requisite for heritage buildings, and their technological possibilities and barriers have not been documented. This research explored the processes required to convert a heritage university building to a BIM model, using existing off-the-shelf software applications. Point cloud data was gathered from drones for the exterior, while a laser scanner was employed for the interior of the building. The point clouds were preprocessed and used as references for the geometry of the building elements, including walls, slabs, windows, doors, and staircases. The BIM model was subsequently created for the individual elements using existing and custom libraries. The model was used to extract 2D CAD drawings that met the requirements of Korea's heritage preservation specifications. The experiment showed that technical improvements were needed to overcome issues of occlusion, modeling errors due to modeler's subjective judgements and point cloud data cleaning and filtering techniques.

  • Quantification of infiltration rate is an important issue in HVAC system design. The infiltration in buildings depends on many uncertain parameters that vary with significant magnitude and hence, the results from standard deterministic simulation approach can be unreliable. The authors utilize uncertainty analysis In predicting the airflow rates. The paper presents relevant uncertain parameters such as meteorological data, building parameters (leakage areas of windows, doors, etc.), etc. Uncertainties of the aforementioned parameters are quantified based on available data from literature. Then, the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) method was used for the uncertainty propagation. The LHS is one of the Monte Carlo simulation techniques that is suited for our needs. The CONTAMW was chosen to simulate infiltration phenomena in a residential apartment that is typical of residential buildings in Korea. It will be shown that the uncertainty propagating through this process is not negligible and may significantly influence the prediction of the airflow rates.
