  • As a reasonable energy policy has become required because of consuming substantial amounts of oil than others, the studies on energy consumption are in work for energy savings of buildings that spend up to 24% of total energy consumption. However, there aren't basic data on energy consumption and installationregulations for effective equipments in energy guzzled buildings. The best plan to reduce the building energy consumption is that the insulation performance should be improved because the insulation and airtight of building envelopes have an effect on the energy consumption basically. Thus, we should prepare the alternatives to improve insulation performance of envelopes and the efficiency of insulation performance of the window for reducing energy consumption.

  • Memristors have been studied for many years due to better scalability than DRAMs and FLASH memories thus they are considered now as a strong candidate for future memories. To describe the electrical behavior of memristors, various memristor models have been developed. Especially, many kinds of window function have been used to express the non-linearity of memristors which are thought to cause different voltage-current relationships in memristors. In this paper, the previous memristor models with different window functions are compared and analyzed. This comparative study can be very useful in not only understanding the diversity in memristor's electrical behaviors but also developing memristor circuits. • In an effort to improve the performance of mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC), we investigate the effects of varying the parameters for the filter banks and their associated windows on speech recognition rates. Specifically, the mel and bark scales are combined with various types of filter bank windows. Comparison and evaluation of the suggested methods are performed by two independent ways of speech recognition and the Fisher discriminant objective function. It is shown that the Hanning window based on the bark scale yields 28.1% relative performance improvements over the triangular window with the mel scale in speech recognition error rate. Further work on incorporating PCA and/or LDA would be desirable as a postprocessor to MFCC extraction.

  • The frequency window method has been extended to include strong coupling and multiple connections between the primary structure and the secondary structures. The rational polynomial expansion of the eigenvalue problem and the analytical methods for its solution are novel and distinguish this work from other eigenvalue analysis methods. The key results are the identification of parameters which quantify the resonance and coupling characteristics; the derivation of analytical closed-form expressions describing the fundamental modal properties in the frequency windows; and the development of an iterative procedure which yields accurate convergent results for strongly-coupled primary-secondary structures.

  • Network coding improves TCP's performance in lossy wireless networks. However, the complex congestion window evolution of network coded TCP (TCP-NC) makes the analysis of end-to-end throughput challenging. This paper analyzes the evolutionary process of TCP-NC against lossy links. An analytic model is established by applying a two-dimensional Markov chain. With maximum window size, end-to-end erasure rate and redundancy parameter as input parameters, the analytic model can reflect window evolution and calculate end-to-end throughput of TCP-NC precisely. The key point of our model is that by the novel definition of the states of Markov chain, both the number of related states and the computation complexity are substantially reduced. Our work helps to understand the factors that affect TCP-NC's performance and lay the foundation of its optimization. Extensive simulations on NS2 show that the analytic model features fairly high accuracy.

  • Smart window technology has become a major component of smart buildings, leading to energy savings and enhanced functionality. Smart windows work like curtains or blind screens, blocking external light sources. Smart window components employ electrochromic or photochromic materials that can selectively block sunlight when electricity is applied. The installation of low-E glass and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is being encouraged in accordance with the policy on saving building energy. To incorporate BIPV into smart windows, the transparency and colors of transparent photovoltaics must be optimized. The power sources required to operate these smart windows take advantage of the transparent color of the solar cells, which also facilitates aesthetics. Self-powered smart windows that combine electrochromic or photochromic screens with transparent solar cells suggest a promising convergent technology.

  • Purpose: Most contemporary office buildings supply external views, a sense of openness and a sense of time to their occupants by adopting the curtain walls, which are equipped with an outer cover having large window area. As a result, the amount of radiation increases, adversely affecting cooling load during the summer in office buildings. Although solar radiation decreases heating load and reduces energy costs during the winter period, due to the characteristics of offices where occupants work largely during daytime, the cooling load is important compared to the heating. Therefore, diverse measures to resolve those trade-offs and annual energy cost have been investigated. Method: In this study, the annual thermal load was comparatively analyzed according to the slat angle of the venetian blind along with lighting control technique. Result: After selecting effective conditions, in order to resolve such issues, this study established automated control strategies of slat angle depending on the window-to-wall ratio and zone orientation, so that the findings of this study can be effectively generalized to other circumstances.

  • An autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle is a type of marine self-propelled robot that executes some specific mission and returns to base on completion of the task. In order to successfully execute the requested operations, the vehicle must be guided by an effective navigation algorithm that enables it to avoid obstacles and follow the best path. Architectures and principles for intelligent dynamic systems are being developed, not only in the underwater arena but also in related areas where the work does not fully justify the name. The problem of increasing the capacity of systems management is highly relevant based on the development of new methods for dynamic analysis, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, and adaptation. Among the large variety of navigation methods that presently exist, the dynamic window approach is worth noting. It was originally presented by Fox et al. and has been implemented in indoor office robots. In this paper, the dynamic window approach is applied to the marine world by developing and extending it to manipulate vehicles in 3D marine environments. This algorithm is provided to enable efficient avoidance of obstacles and attainment of targets. Experiments conducted using the algorithm in MATLAB indicate that it is an effective obstacle avoidance approach for marine vehicles.

  • This paper outlines a new convergence acceleration de-signed to solve scramjet flowfields with zones of re-circulation. Named the “marching-window”, the algorithm consists of performing pseudo-time iterations on a minimal width subdomain composed of a sequence of cross-stream planes of nodes. The upstream boundary of the subdomain is positioned such that all nodes upstream exhibit a residual smaller than the user-specified convergence threshold. The advancement of the downstream boundary follows the advancement of the upstream boundary, except in zones of significant streamwise ellipticity where a streamwise ellipticity sensor ensures its continuous progress. Compared to the standard pseudo-time marching approach, the march-ing-window is here seen to decrease the work required for convergence by up to 24 times for supersonic flows with little streamwise ellipticity and by up to 8 times for supersonic flows with large streamwise separated regions. The memory requirements are observed to be reduced sixfold by not allocating memory to the nodes not included in the computational subdomain. The marching-window satisfies the same convergence criterion as the standard pseudo-time stepping methods, hence resulting in the same converged solution within the tolerance of the user-specified convergence threshold. The extension of the marching-window to the weakly-ionized Navier-Stokes equations is also discussed.
