This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a fuzzy controller for maximum power extraction of a grid-connected wind energy conversion system with a link of a rectifier and an inverter. It discusses the maximum power control algorithm for a wind turbine and proposes, in a graphical form, the relationships of wind turbine output, rotor speed, power coefficient, tip-speed ratio with wind speed when the wind turbine is operated under the maximum power control. The control objective is to always extract maximum power from wind and transfer the power to the utility by controlling both the pitch angle of the wind turbine blades and the inverter firing angle. Pitch control method is mechanically complicated, but the control performance is better than that of the stall regulation method. The simulation results performed on MATLAB will show the variation of generator's rotor angle and rotor speed, pitch angle, and generator output.
The 800-kW PM (permanent magnet) synchronous generator is developed as a wind power generator. The matching converter is designed to control the torque and power depending on the wind speed regime. The generator starts to generate the power at the speed of 9 rpm and the rated output is generated at the speed of 25 rpm. The rated output power of an inverter is 750 kW when the PM synchronous generator is delivering 800 kW to the inverter. The inverter is specially designed to perform the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) at the low wind speed regime that is typical wind environment in Korea. The inverter test was done with a 2 MW M-G system at KERI (Korea Electric Research Institute). The M-G set has a 2 MW motor driver and a 38:1 gear to match the speed between the motor and the PM generator. The torque simulating the wind is applied to the PM generator by a DC motor. The test results show the inverter efficiency of $94.3\%$ at the rated power generating condition. The measured values show that the MPPT algorithm is working well. Overall reliability will be verified through the long-term site test.

This paper proposes the implementation of robust fuzzy controller for designing intelligent wind farm and mitiagating the fluctuation of wind power generator. The existing researches are limited to individual wind turbine with variable speed so that it is necessary to study the multi-agent wind turbine power system. The scopes of these studies include from the arrangements of each power turbine to the control algorithms for the wind farm. For solving these problems, we introduce the composition of intelligent wind farm and use the T-S (Takagi-Sugeno) fuzzy model which is suitable for designing fuzzy controller. The control object in wind farm enables the minimizing the fluctuation of wind power generator. Simulation results for wind fram which is modelled as mathematically are demonstrated to visualize the feasibility of the proposed method.

This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a grid-connected wind turbine generation system with respect to wind variations, starting of large induction motor and three-phase fault in the system, and investigates voltage variations of the system for disturbances. It describes the modeling of the wind turbine system including the drive train model, induction generator model, and grid-interface model on MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show the variation of the generator torque, the generator rotor speed, the pitch angle, terminal voltage, system voltage, fault current, and real/reactive power output, etc. Case studies demonstrate that the pitch angle control is carried out to achieve maximum power extraction for wind speed variations, starting of a large induction motor causes a voltage sag due to a large starting current, and a fault on the system influences on the output of the wind turbine generator.
This paper describes development of hardware simulator for the PMSG(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator) wind power system, which was designed using real wind data. The simulator consists of a realistic wind turbine model using anemometer, vector drive, induction motor. The turbine simulator generates torque and speed signals for a specific wind turbine with respect to given wind speed. This torque and speed signals are scaled down to fit the input of 3kW PMSG. The PMSG-side converter operates to track the maximum power point and the grid-side inverter controls the active and reactive power supplied to the grid. The operational feasibility was first verified by computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC. The feasibility of real system implementation was confirmed through experimental works with a hardware set-up.
This paper presents an innovative design for a low-speed, direct-drive, axial-flux permanent-magnet (AFPM) generator with a coreless stator and rotor that is intended for application to small wind turbine power generation systems. The performance of the generator is evaluated and optimized by means of comprehensive 3D electromagnetic finite element analysis. The main focus of this study is to improve the power output and efficiency of wind power generation by investigating the electromagnetic and structural features of a coreless AFPM generator. The design is validated by comparing the performance achieved with a prototype. The results of our comparison demonstrate that the proposed generator has a number of advantages such as a simpler structure, higher efficiency over a wide range of operating speeds, higher energy yield, lighter weight and better power utilization than conventional machines. It would be possible to manufacture low-cost, axial-flux permanent-magnet generators by further developing the proposed design.
Control algorithms and implementation issues for a wind turbine simulator are presented for realistic emulation of variable wind characteristics using a lab-scale motor and generator set. When the average wind speed nd turbulence level is given, the torque reference of prime mover is decided through various blocks, such as random wind speed generator, blade characteristic curves, and tower effect compensation. The variable nature of wind can be implemented and tested by not only the computer simulation but also the hardware-in-loop-simulator (HILS). Some application examples of HILS include the development and test of turbine control software for more efficient and stable operation. Feasibility of the proposed simulator has verified by computer simulations and experiment.

The paper presents a simulation model and analysis of a grid-connected variable speed wind energy conversion scheme (VSWECS) using the PSCAD/EMTDC software. The modeled system uses a variable speed drive, a fixed pitch angle, a synchronous generator as a wind generator and an AC-DC-AC conversion scheme, which facilitates the wind generation to efficiently operate under varying wind speed while connected to the distribution network. The power output of the WECS is controlled by the AC-DC-AC conversion scheme, the objective of which is to capture the maximum active power under varying wind conditions and to keep the voltage magnitude of the terminal bus at a specific level. Aerodynamic models are applied for a wind turbine model. An simulation analysis of the scheme in terms of its responding to wind variations is also presented.
This study suggests a modeling of grid-connected wind turbine generation system that has induction generator, and aims to perform simulations for outputs by the variation of actual wind speed and for fault current of wind generation system by the transformer winding connection. This study is implemented by matlab&simulink. The simulation shall be performed by assuming single line to ground fault generated in the system. Generator power, generator rotor speed, generator terminal current and fault current shall be observed following the performance of simulation. The fault current change will be dealt through the simulation results for fault current of wind generation system following the grid-connected transformer winding connection and the simulation result by the transformer neutral ground method.
