Benzene is one of the most widely used basic materials in the petrochemical industry. Generally, benzene exists as a mixture with alcohols rather than as a pure substance. Further, the alcohols-added mixtures usually exhibit an azeotropic composition. In this context, knowledge of the phase equilibrium behavior of the mixture is essential for its separation and purification. In this study, the vapor-liquid equilibrium data were measured in favor of a recirculating VLE apparatus under constant pressure for the 1 - propanol / benzene system. The measured vapor - liquid equilibrium data were also correlated by using the UNIQUAC and WILSON models and the thermodynamic consistency test based on the Gibbs/Duhem equation was followed. The results of the phase equilibrium experiment revealed RMSEs (Root Mean Square Error) and AADs (Average Absolute Deviation) of less than 0.05 for both models, indicating a good agreement between the experimental value and the calculated value. The results of the thermodynamic consistency test also confirmed through the residual term within ${\pm}0.2$.

In this study, modeling and optimization works were completed for the separation of 99.9 mol% of methyl ethyl ketone from water through a pressure-swing distillation process since the azeotropic composition varies very sensitively with the change of system pressure. PRO/II with PROVISION release 9.1 was used for the computer simulation and Wilson activity coefficient model was chosen as a modeling equation. A pressure-swing distillation process can be classified into a low-high pressure columns configuration and a high-low pressure columns configuration. In this work, each configurations were optimized for the minimization of steam consumptions, respectively and were compared.
Vapor-liquid equilibrium calculation is required to properly design and operation of distillation process. The general calculation method is to use binary interaction parameter. Lower flash points of cyclohexanol+aniline and cyclohexanol+cyclohexanone were measured by using Seta-flash closed cup apparatus. The measured flash points were compared with those calculated by the method based on Raoult's law and the optimization method using Wilson equation. The absolute average errors(A.A.E.) of the results calculated by Raout's law are $0.25^{\circ}C$ and $1.07^{\circ}C$ for cyclohexanol+aniline and cyclohexanol+cyclohexanone, respectively. The absolute average errors of the results calculated by the optimization method are $0.22^{\circ}C$ and $0.65^{\circ}C$ for cyclohexanol+aniline and cyclohexanol+cyclohexanone, respectively. As can be seen from A.A.E., the calculated values based on the optimization method were found to be better than those based on the Raoult's law. The binary interaction parameters calculated by the optimization method are used to predict the dew points of cyclohexanol+aniline and cyclohexanol+cyclohexanone. The A.A.E. for these mixtures show that there is an acceptable agreement between experimental and calculated dew poins.
Optimal synthetic condition of barium sulfate were investigated from the viewpoint of yield and bulkiness according to a randomized complete block design proposed by G.E.P. Box and K.B. Wilson. Barium chloride and magnesium sulfate were utilized as reactants in order to prepare barium sulfate in this study. It was found that optimum temperature range of reactant solutions was $60{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ and the optimum concentration range of the reactant solutions was $10{\sim}17.3%$ and $10{\sim}20%$ respectively, on the viewpoint of yield and bulkiness. The optimum mole ratio of $BaCI_2$ to $BaSO_4$ was in the range of $1.50{\sim}2.0$ and the optimum mole ratio of $BaCI_2$ to $BaSO_4$ was in the range of $1.50{\sim}2.0$ and the optimum reacting time range was $15{\sim}20$ minutes. The optimum drying temperature range was $110{\sim}130^{\circ}C$ from the viewpoint of yield, but it was $90{\sim}110^{\circ}C$ on the basis of bulkiness. Apparent viscosity of barium sulfate suspensions dispersed in various concentrations of Na. CMC was measured by using Brookfield synchrolectric viscometer model LVT, the relative equation, log ${\eta}_{sp}=A+B.{\phi}$ was examined and the equation was found to agree fairly well. 1 w/v% Na. CMC aqueous solution and 0.1 volume fraction of $BaSO_4$ powder were optimum in the preparation of $BaSO_4$ suspension showing highest viscosity at infinite shearing.

Predictions of vibration induced by subway operation has been studied through comparison between the measurement values and the estimated values which proposed by other scientists to determine the adequacy of each equation. It was found from this study that the Wilson's prediction equation gives the best overall approximation value although the peak frequency band lies somewhat higher than that obtained from measurement.
This paper reports experimental excess molar volumes $V^E_m$ using a digital vibrating-tube densimeter and excess molar enthalpies $H^E_m$ by means of an isothermal microcalorimeter with a flow mixing cell for the binary mixtures{1,2-dichloropropane + 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethanol} and {1,2-dichloropropane + 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethanol} at 298.15 K under atmospheric pressure. All the $V^E_m$ and $H^E_m$ of the two binary mixtures showed S-shaped forms, being negative for poor and positive for rich 1,2-dichloropropane mole fractions. These show that the excess properties were shown to be negative deviation from ideality due to the strong self-association effect among 2-(2-alkoxyethoxy)ethanol molecules at an early stage of mixing, a relatively high energy then is needed to break hydrogen bonds of 2-(2-alkoxyethoxy)ethanol with an increase ofhalogenated hydrocarbon molecular at high mole fraction of 1,2-dichloropropane. The values of excess molar properties($V^E_m$ and $H^E_m$) were fitted by the Redlich-Kister equation using Nelder-Mead's simplex pattern search method. The Wilson, NRTL, and UNIQUAC models were used to correlate the $H^E_m$ values.
Purpose: This study aimed to construct and test a hypothetical model of the quality of life of school-age children with asthma based on the health-related quality of life model by Wilson and Cleary. Methods: Data were collected from 205 pairs of pediatric outpatients diagnosed with asthma and their parents in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do from July 2016 to April 2017. The exogenous variables were asthma knowledge, number of accompanying allergic diseases, and social support. The endogenous variables were asthma self-efficacy, asthma symptom control, perceived health status, parental quality of life, and children's quality of life. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling were performed. Results: Eighteen of the twenty-four hypotheses selected for the hypothetical model were attentive and supported statistically. Quality of life was explained by asthma self-efficacy, asthma symptom control, perceived health, parental quality of life, and asthma knowledge with 83.5%. Conclusion: Strategies for promoting self-efficacy and enforcing asthma knowledge will be helpful for the improvement of health-related quality of life with school-aged asthmatic children.
In the recent decade, practical of wavelet technique is being utilized in various domain of science. Particularly, engineers are interested to the wavelet solution method in the time series analysis. Fundamentally, seismic responses of structures against time history loading such as an earthquake, illustrates optimum capability of systems. In this paper, a procedure using particularly discrete Haar wavelet basis functions is introduced, to solve dynamic equation of motion. In the proposed approach, a straightforward formulation in a fluent manner is derived from the approximation of the displacements. For this purpose, Haar operational matrix is derived and applied in the dynamic analysis. It's free-scaled matrix converts differential equation of motion to the algebraic equations. It is shown that accuracy of dynamic responses relies on, access of load in the first step, before piecewise analysis added to the technique of equation solver in the last step for large scale of wavelet. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme, improved formulations are extended to the linear and nonlinear structural dynamic analysis. The validity and effectiveness of the developed method is verified with three examples. The results were compared with those from the numerical methods such as Duhamel integration, Runge-Kutta and Wilson-${\theta}$ method.
Purpose: This study was done to test structural equation modeling of health-related quality of life (QOL) of men with obstructive sleep apnea in order to identify parameters affecting QOL and provide guidelines for interventions and strategies to improve QOL in these patients. Methods: Model construction was based on 'The conceptual model of patient outcome in health-related QOL' by Wilson and Cleary, using the variables; age, physiological factors, social support, cognitive appraisal, symptoms and QOL. Participants were 201 adult male patients recruited at a tertiary university hospital in Seoul. Data were collected via questionnaires, polysomnography, and clinical records. Results: Age and symptoms directly influenced QOL. Social support and cognitive appraisal about sleep did not have a direct influence on QOL, but indirectly affected it via symptoms. QOL was lower in patients who were younger and had more severe symptoms. Symptoms were more severe for patients with lower social support and more dysfunctional cognitive appraisal. When social support was lower, cognitive appraisal was more dysfunctional. Conclusion: These results suggest it is necessary to not only manage symptoms, but also apply interventions to increase social support and cognitive appraisal about sleep in order to increase QOL in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
This study was undertaken to compare the biomass of Abies koreana growing at two sites. A $10{\times}10m$ plot was established in each site of a natural stand in Mt. Jiri and a plantation in Gyeongsan nursery. Five trees of A. koreana were randomly selected in each site. The following traits were investigated from each tree : height, basal diameter, age, weight of stem, branches, and needles as above-ground traits and weight of total roots, horizontal roots, and vertical roots as below-ground traits. In Gyeongsan nursery, age of sample trees was negatively correlated with both height and weight of total stem, while height was highly correlated with weight of horizontal roots. There was high correlation between the basal diameter and weight of total stem, and between the basal diameter and weight of roots. In Mt. Jiri stand, most of the above-ground traits except age were significantly correlated with the below-ground traits. The linear regression equation between the cross section area of base (X) and the weight of total stem (Y) in Gyeongsan nursery was Y=12.66X-12.92, and correlation was significant ($R^2=0.89$). The linear regression equation between the cross section area of base(X) and the weight of total branches (Y) in Mt. Jiri stand was Y=25.51X+6.00, and correlation was highly significant ($R^2=1.0$).
