  • The quality of narrowband speech can be enhanced by the bandwidth extension technology. This paper proposes a mixed excitation and an energy compensation method based on Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). First, we employ the mixed excitation model having both periodic and aperiodic characteristics in frequency domain. We use a filter bank to extract the periodicity features from the filtered signals and model them based on GMM to estimate the mixed excitation. Second, we separate the acoustic space into the voiced and unvoiced parts of speech to compensate for the energy difference between narrowband speech and reconstructed highband, or lowband speech, more accurately. Objective and subjective evaluations show that the quality of wideband speech reconstructed by the proposed method is superior to that by the conventional bandwidth extension method.

  • In this paper, block constrained trellis coded vector quantization (BC-TCVQ) is presented for quantizing the line spectrum frequency parameters of the wideband speech codec. Both a predictive structure and a safety-net concept are combined into BC-TCVQ to develop the predictive BC-TCVQ. The performance of this quantization is compared with that of the linear predictive coding vector quantizer used in the AMRWB codec, demonstrating reductions in spectral distortion.

  • This letter proposes a new embedded speech coding structure based on the Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) standard codec. The proposed coding scheme consists of three different bitrates where the two lower bitrates are embedded into the highest one. The embedded bitstream was achieved by modifying the algebraic codebook search procedure adopted for the AMR-WB codec. The proposed method provides the advantage of scalability due to the embedded bitstream, while it inevitably requires some additional computational complexity for obtaining two different code vectors of the higher bitrate modes. Compared to the AMR-WB codec, the embedded coder shows improved speech qualities for two higher bitrate modes with a slightly increased bitrate caused by the decreased coding efficiency of the algebraic codebook.

  • This Paper proposes the vector quantizer-pyramid vector quantizer(VQ-PVQ) structure. Also both predictive structure and safety-net concept are combined into the VQ-PVQ to quantize the IPC parameter of wideband speech codec. The Performance is compared to the LPC vector quantizer used in the AMR-WB(ITU-T G.722.2). demonstrating reduction in both spectral distortion and encoding memory.

  • This paper addresses a design issue of "model complexity and performance trade-off" in the application of bandwidth extension (BWE) methods to the intra-frame predictivevector quantization problem of wideband speech. It discusses model-based linear and non-linear prediction methods and presents a comparative study of them in terms of prediction gain. Through experimentation, the general trend of saturation in performance (with the increase in model complexity) is observed. However, specifically, it is also observed that there is no significant difference between HMM and GMM-based BWE functions.

  • In this Paper a split bandwidth wideband speech coder and its highband coding method are Proposed. The coder uses a split-band approach. where the wideband input speech signal is split into two equal frequency bands from 0-4kHz and 4-8kHz. The lowband and the highband are coded respectively by the 11.8kb/s G.729 Annex E and the proposed coding method. After the LPC analysis, the highband is divided by two modes according to the properties of signals. In stationary mode. the highband signals are compressed by the mixture excitation model; CELP algorithm and W (Matching Pursuit) algorithm. The others are coded by the only CELP algorithm. We compare the performance of the new wideband speech coder with that of G.722 48kbps SB-ADPCM and G.722.2 12.85kbps in a subjective method. The simulation results show that the Performance of the proposed wideband speech coder has better than that of 48kbps G.722 and no better than that of 12.85kbps G.722.2.

  • In this paper, we designed the 16 Kbps speech coder that has compatibility with CS-ACELP algorithm(G.729). The speech signal is sampled at rate of 16 KHz, divided into two narrowband signal by QMF filterbank, and decimated to rate of 8 KHz. The lower-band signal is encoded by CS-ACELP and the upper-band signal is encoded by Adaptive Transform Coding(ATC) algorithm. At the receiver, two band signals are synthesized by decoder of CS-ACELP and ATC, respectively. The reconstructed output is obtained by passing the QMF synthesis bank. The proposed wideband coder is evaluated with ITU-T G.722 coder through the Mean Opinion Score(MOS) test.

  • In this paper, The Split Model Analysis Algorithm, which can generate the wideband speech signal from the spectral information of narrowband signal, is developed. The Split Model Analysis Algorithm deals with the separation of the 10$\^$th/ order LPC model into five cascade-connected 2$\^$nd/ order model. The use of the less complex 2$\^$nd/ order models allows for the exclusion of the complicated nonlinear relationships between model parameters and all the poles of the LPC model. The relationships between the model parameters and its corresponding analog poles is proved and applied to each 2$\^$nd/ order model. The wideband speech signal is obtained by changing only the sampling rate.

  • This paper proposes new 16 kbps wideband speech codec with bandwidth of 7 kHz. The proposed codec decomposes the input speech signal into low-band and high-band signals using QMF (Quadrature Mirror Filter), then AMR (Adaptive Multi Rate) speech codec processes the low-band signal and new transform-domain codec based on G.722.1 wideband cosec compresses the high-band signal. The proposed codec allocates different number of bits to each band in an adaptive way according to the property of input signal, which provides better performance than the codec with the fixed bit allocation scheme. In addition, the proposed cosec processes high-band signal using wavelet transform for better performance. The performance of proposed codec is measured in a subjective method. and the simulations with various speech data show that the proposed coders has better performance than G.722 48 kbps SB-ADPCM.
