  • When converters operate in megahertz range, the passive components and magnetic devices generate high losses. However, the eddy current issues and choices of magnetic cores significantly affect on the design stage. Apart from that, the components' reduction, miniaturization technique and frequency scaling are required as well as improvement in thermal capability, integration technique, circuit topologies and PCB layout optimization. In transformer design, the winding and core losses give great attention to the design stage. From simulation work, it is found that E-25066 material manufactured by AVX could be the most suitable core for high frequency transformer design. By employing planar geometry topology, the material can generate significant power loss savings of more than 67% compared to other materials studied in this work. Furthermore, young researchers can use this information to develop new approaches based on concepts, issues and methodology in the design of magnetic components for high frequency applications.

  • Heat regenerator occupied by regenerative materials improves thermal efficiency of regenerative combustion system through the recovery of sensible heat of exhaust gases. By using one-dimensional two-phase fluid dynamics model, the unsteady thermal flow of regenerator with spherical particles, were numerically analyzed to evaluate the heat transfer and pressure losses and to suggest the parameter for designing heat regenerator. It is confirmed that the computational results, such as air preheat temperature, exhausted gases outlet temperature, and pressure losses, agreed well with the experimental data conducted from Chugairo. The thermal flow in heat regenerator varies with porosity, configuration of regenerator and diameter of regenerative particle. Assuming a given exhaust gases temperature at the regenerator outlet, the regenerator length need to be linearly increased with inlet Reynolds number of exhaust gases. It is considered that inlet Reynolds number of exhaust gases should be introduced as a regenerator design parameter.

  • AC loss is an important issue in the design of high-T$_{c}$ superconducting power cables which consist of a number of Bi-2223 tapes wound on a former. In the cables, the tapes have different critical currents intrinsically. And they are electrically connected to each other and current leads. These make loss measurements considerably complex, especially for short samples of laboratory size. So special cautions are required in the positioning of voltage leads for measuring the true loss voltage. In this work we have prepared a conductor composed of three Bi-2223 tapes with different critical currents. The ac loss characteristics in the conductor have experimentally investigated. The loss tests indicate that the ac loss is dependent on arrangements of voltage leads but not on their contact positions. The measured losses in the conductor also agree well with the sum of the transport losses measured in each Bi-2223 tape.e.

  • This study describes energy and exergy analysis of the Maeeum-Ri Geothermal District Heating System(MGDHS) of Ganghwa Island, Incheon, Korea. Design data are used to assess the performance of the geothermal district heating system. Geothermal resources of MGDHS are found to be low quality with specific exergy index of 0.029. Exergy losses occur in the pumps and heat exchangers as well as in the geothermal Quid and direct discharge. As a result, the total exergy losses accounts for 5.2% in pumps, 47% in the discharge, and 3.3% in heat exchanger based on the total exergy input to the entire MGDHS. The overall energy and exergy efficiencies of the system are found to be 28.8% and 44.5%, respectively.

  • This article try to show the results from three cooking methods of a steak in 150 g by way of roasting cooking, braising cooking, microwave cooking. I observed the cooking time, standing time and post processing temperature rice of three steaks coming to 70 $^{\circ}C$ by means of roasing, braising and microwave, respectively, The results are shown in the followings: It is shown that Microwave cooking takes the shortest cooking time and the longest standing time in each cooking intervals and also shows the high level of losses and that of drip losses as well. It is concluded that there are not much differences among the ingredients of steaks cooked in three methods but the steak cooked in microwave cooking method is shown to be low in fat containment of it.

  • The effects of flow interaction between mainstream and shrouded cavity leakage flow in an axial-flow compressor on aerodynamic losses are experimentally and numerically examined. A fraction of mainstream is Ingested in the downstream cavity and travelled in the shrouded cavity along the direction opposite to the mainstream. This leakage flow is caused by adverse pressure gradient along the blade passage. Then it is entrained through the upstream cavity near mid-pitch and interacts with the mainstream. As a result, the convection flow angle with respect to the blade chord is reduced i.e. underturning This underturned flow results in an increase in size of secondary flow formed near the suction side of the blade as well as its magnitude. Consequently, this causes pronounced increase in overall aerodynamic losses compared to the blading without shrouded cavity, leading to $9\%$ decrease in pressure rise through the single stage of the stators.

  • In general, cell transmission delay is more sensitive for real time video service rather than cell losses in a wireless ATM network. Existing handoff schemes, which are emphasizing the prevention of cell losses, have limitations in cell transmission delay to satisfy QoS. In this paper, we propose a scheme to minimize transmission delay generated during the handoff and to maintain the sequence of cells. Transmission delay can be reduced by transmitting ATM cells with low CLP(i.e., CLP=0) prior to others and by discarding cells with high CLP(i.e., CLP= 1). The simulation results show that the proposed scheme is suitable for delay sensitive real time VBR service as well as fast handoff by giving high CLP to less meaningful MPEG frames.

  • This study is intended to propose a systematic procedure for the development of the reliability-based seismic safety and cost-effective Performance criteria for design and upgrading of long span PC bridges. In the paper, a set of cost function models for life cycle cost analysis of bridges is proposed. The total life cycle cost functions consist of initial cost and direct/indirect damage costs considering repair/replacement costs, human losses and property damage costs, road user costs, and indirect regional economic losses. The damage costs are successfully expressed in terms of Park-Ang median global damage indices and damage probabilities. The proposed approach is successfully applied to model bridges in both regions of a moderate seismicity area like Seoul, Korea and a high one like Tokyo, Japan. It may be expected that the proposed approach can be effectively utilized for the development of cost-effective performance criteria for design and upgrading of various types of bridges as well as long span PC bridges.

  • During deep excavation, changes in the state of stress in the ground mass around the excavation and subsequent ground losses inevitably occur. These changes in the stress and ground losses are reflected on surrounding ground in the form of ground movements, which eventually Impose strains onto nearby structures through translation, rotation, distortion, and possibly damage. A substantial portion of the cost of deep excavations in urban environments is, therefore, devoted to prevent ground movements. Prediction of ground movements and assessment of the risk of damage to adjacent structures has become an essential part of the planning, design, and construction of a deep excavation project in the urban environments. This paper presents excavation-induced ground movement characteristics as well as important issues related to excavation-induced building damage assessment.
