  • Cumulative sum schemes based on a weighted score are considered for controlling the mean of a continuous production process; in which both the one-sided and two-sided schemes are proposed. The average run lengths and the run length distributions for the proposed schemes are obtained by the Markov chain approach. Comparisons by the average run length show that the proposed schemes perform nearly as well as the standard cumulative sum schemes in detecting changes in the process mean. Comparisons of the one-sided schemes by the run length distribution are also presented.

  • Color images are often corrupted by the noise due to noisy sensors or channel transmission errors. Some filters such as vector media and vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filter have bee used for color noise removal. In this paper, We propose the fuzzy cluster filters based on the possibilistic c-means clustering, because the possibilistic c-means clustering can get robust memberships in noisy environments. Also, we propose weighted vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filter to improve the conventional vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filter. In this filter, the central data are more weighted than the outlying data. In this paper, we implemented the color noise generator to evaluate the performance of the proposed filters in the color noise environments. The NCD measure and visual measure by human observer are used for evaluation the performance of the proposed filters. In the experiment, proposed fuzzy cluster filters in the sense of NCD measure gave the best performance over conventional filters in the mixed noise. Simulation results showed that proposed weighted vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filters better than the conventional vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filter in any kinds of noise.

  • This paper presents a target model update scheme for the mean-shift tracking with background weighted histogram. In the scheme, the target candidate histogram is corrected by considering the back-projection weight of each pixel in the kernel after the best target candidate in the current frame image is chosen. In each frame, the target model is updated by the weighted average of the current target model and the corrected target candidate. We compared our target model update scheme with the previous ones by applying several test sequences. The experimental results showed that the object tracking accuracy was greatly improved by using the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, enhancement of speech corrupted by additive white or colored noise is stuided. The nuconstrained frequency-domain block least-mean-square (UFBLMS) adaptation algorithm and its frequency-weighted version are newly applied to speech enhancement. For enhancement of speech degraded by white noise, the performance of the UFBLMS algorithm is superior to the spectral subtraction method or Wiener filtering technique by more than 3 dB in segmented frequency-weighted signal-to-noise ratio(FWSNERSEG) when SNR of speech is in the range of 0 to 10 dB. As for enhancement of noisy speech corrupted by colored noise, the UFBLMS algorithm is superior to that of the spectral subtraction method by about 3 to 5 dB in FWSNRSEG. Also, it yields better performance by about 2 dB in FWSNR and FWSNRSEG than that of time-domain least-mean-square (TLMS) adaptive prediction filter(APF). In view of the computational complexity and performance improvement in speech quality and intelligibility, the frequency-weighted UFBLMS algorithm appears to yield the best performance among various algorithms in enhancing noisy speech corrupted by white or colored noise.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive optimal design floods by the Wakeby distribution model using the probability weighted moments. Parameters for the Wakeby distribution were estimated by the probability weighted moments for the annual flood flows of the applied watersheds. Design floods obtained by the Wakeby and GEV distributions were compared by the relative mean errors, relative absolute errors and root mean square errors. In general, it has shown that the design floods by the Wakeby distribution using the methods of the probability weighted moments are closer to those of the observed data in comparison with those obtained by the GEV distribution.

  • The stochastic analysis of semi-infinite domain is presented using the weighted integral method, which is improved to include the higher order terms in expanding the displacement vector. To improve the weighted integral method, the Lagrangian remainder is taken into account in the expansion of the status variable with respect to the mean value of the random variables. In the resulting formulae only the 'proportionality coefficients' are introduced in the resulting equation, therefore no additional computation time and memory requirement is needed. The equations are applied in analyzing the semi-infinite domain. The results obtained by the improved weighted integral method are reasonable and are in good agreement with those of the Monte Carlo simulation. To model the semi-infinite domain, the Bettess's infinite element is adopted, where the theoretical decomposition of the strain-displacement matrix to calculate the deviatoric stiffness of the semi-infinite domains is introduced. The calculated value of mean and the covariance of the displacement are revealed to be larger than those given by the finite domain assumptions which is thought to be rational and should be considered in the design of structures on semi-infinite domains.

  • Salt and pepper is a type of impulse noise. It may appear due to an error in the image transmission process and image storage memory. This noise changes the pixel value at any position in the image to 0 (in case of pepper noise) or 255 (in case of salt noise). In this paper, we present an algorithm for SAP noise reduction. The proposed method consists of three steps. In the first step, the location of the SAP noise is detected, and in the second step, the pixel value of the detected location is restored using a weighted average of the surrounding pixel values. In the last step, a reliability matrix around the reconstructed pixels is constructed, and additional correction is performed with a weighted average using this. As a result of the experiment, the proposed method appears to have similar or higher objective and subjective image quality than previous methods for almost all SAP noise ratios.

  • Multiple response surface optimization (MRSO) aims at finding a setting of input variables which simultaneously optimizes multiple responses. The minimization of mean squared error (MSE), which consists of the squared bias and variance terms, is an effective way to consider the location and dispersion effects of the responses in MRSO. This approach basically assumes that both the terms have an equal weight. However, they need to be weighted differently depending on a problem situation, for example, in case that they are not of the same importance. This paper proposes to use the weighted MSE (WMSE) criterion instead of the MSE criterion in MRSO to consider an unequal weight situation.
