An automatic tuning method of a PID controller which is used for single input single output processes is proposed. In the proposed tuning method, the frequency response data model is adopted along with the performance index which is an integral of time weighted square error between reference model and process frequency response data model for tuning. This method is easier to retune when either the process dynamics is changed or the reference model is changed. Finally, an example is provided to show the usefulness of the method.

A new general high order consistent nodal method for solving the 3-D multigroup neutron kinetic equations in (x-y-z) geometry has been derived by expending the flux in a multiple polynomial series for the space variables by without the quadratic fit approximations of the transverse leakage and for the time variable and using a weighted-integral technique. The derived equation set is consistent mathematically, and therefore, we can expect very accurate solutions and less computing time since we can use coarse meshes in time variable as well as in spatial variables and the solution would converge exactly in fine mesh limit.

The advantage of the DSM which employ multi-bit quantizer is the increased SNR at the modulator's output. Typically 6 dB improvement is effected for every one additional bit. But multi-bit quantizer evidently requires multi-bit DAC in the feedback loop. The integral linearity error of the feedback DAC has direct impact upon the system performance and degraded SNR of the system. In order to mitigate the negative impact the DAC has on the system performance, many DEM(Dynamic Element Matching) schemes has been proposed. Among the proposed schemes, four schemes(DER,CLA,ILA,DWA) are explained and its performance has been compared. DWA(Data Weighted Averaging) method shows the best performance of the all.
In this paper the stochastic FE analysis considering the material and geometrical property of the plate structure is performed by the weighted integral method. To consider the stochasity of the material and geometrical property, the stochastic field is assumed respectively. The mean value of the stochastic field is 0 and the value of variance is assumed as 0.1. The characteristics of the assumed stochastic field is represented by auto-correlation function. This auto-correlation function is used in evaluating the response variability of the plate structure. In this study a new auto-correlation function is derived to concern the uncertainty of the plate thickness. The newly derived auto-correlation function is a function of auto-correlation function and coefficient of variation of the assumed stochastic field. The two results, obtained by proposed Weighted Integral method and Monte Carlo Simulation method, are coincided with each other and these results are almost equal to the theoretical result that is derived in this study. In the case of considering the variability of plate thickness, the obtained result is well coincide with those of Lawrence and Monte Carlo simulation.

In this study, we suggest a stochastic finite element scheme for the probabilistic analysis of the composite laminated plates, which have been applied to variety of mechanical structures due to their high strength to weight ratios. The applied concept in the formulation is the weighted integral method, which has been shown to give the most accurate results among others. We take into account the elastic modulus and in-plane shear modulus as random. For individual random parameters, independent stochastic field functions are assumed, and the effect of these random parameters on the response are estimated based on the exponentially varying auto- and cross-correlation functions. Based on example analyses, we suggest that composite plates show a less coefficient of variation than plates of isotropic and orthotropic materials. For the validation of the proposed scheme, Monte Carlo analysis is also performed, and the results are compared with each other.

An optimized PI controller design method is presented to promote the control performance of an oil cooler system for high precision machine tools. First, a transfer function model of the oil cooler system with a variable rotating speed compressor was obtained by the perturbation method as the first order system with a negligible dead time. Then, the closed-loop control system was described as the second order system with a zero. Its dynamic behaviors are mostly governed by characteristic parameters, the damping ratio, and the natural frequency which is incorporated in PI gains. Next, an optimum integral of the time-weighted absolute error (ITAE) criterion was applied to the second order system. The characteristic parameters can be determined by the given design specifications, percent overshoots and settling times and comparisons with the ITAE criterion. Hence, the PI gains were plainly identified in a deterministic way. Finally, the PI gains were fine-tuned to obtain desirable dynamics in real systems, considering the zero effect and parameter variations. The validity of the proposed method was proven by computer simulations and real experiments for selected cases.

A design of a highly stable current-controlled power supply combining the phase-controlled rectifier (PCR), passive filter and active filter is investigated. A digital phase-looked voltage control (PLVC) with a capability of compensating the thyristor firing angles under unvalanced power source is proposed` otherwise the PCR output voltage has low-order subharmonics whose suppression requires a bulky passive filter. The digital PLVC has a fast dynamic characteristics as an inner control loop of the PCR. To suppress further the output ripple, an active filter using a transformer is introduced and its design is described through the frequency domain analysis. An optimal integral, proportional and measurable variable feedback (IPM) controller is designed using the time-weighted performance index based on the time domain analysis. The design method based on the time-weighted performance index gives better response characteristics than that based on the conventional performance index. It is also shown via experimental results that the proposed scheme gives better response characteristics than that based on the conventional performance index. It is also shown via experimental results that the proposed scheme gives good dynamic and static performances.
Relevance feedback is a technique to learn the user's subjective perception of similarity between images, and has recently gained attention in Content Based Image Retrieval. Most relevance feedback methods assume that the individual features that are used in similarity judgments do not interact with each other. However, this assumption severely limits the types of similarity judgments that can be modeled In this paper, we explore a more sophisticated model for similarity judgments based on fuzzy measures and the Choquet Integral, and propose a suitable algorithm for relevance feedback, Experimental results show that the proposed method is preferable to traditional weighted- average techniques.
Meta-heuristic algorithms have found their place in optimization problems. Henry gas solubility optimization (HGSO) is one of the newest population-based algorithms. This algorithm is inspired by Henry's law of physics. To evaluate the performance of a new algorithm, it must be used in various problems. On the other hand, the optimization of the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) gains for load-following of a nuclear power plant (NPP) is a good challenge to assess the performance of HGSO. Accordingly, the power control of a pressurized water reactor (PWR) is targeted, based on the point kinetics model with six groups of delayed-neutron precursors. In any optimization problem based on meta-heuristic algorithms, an efficient objective function is required. Therefore, the integral of the time-weighted square error (ITSE) performance index is utilized as the objective (cost) function of HGSO, which is constrained by a stability criterion in steady-state operations. A Lyapunov approach guarantees this stability. The results show that this method provides superior results compared to an empirically tuned PID controller with the least error. It also achieves good accuracy compared to an established GA-tuned PID controller.

A consistent general order nodal method for solving the three-dimensional neutron diffusion equation in (x-y-z) geometry has been derived by using a weighted integral technique and expanding the spatial variable by the Legendre orthogonal series function. The equation set derived can be converted into any order nodal schemes. It forms a compact system for general order of nodal moments. The method utilizes fewer unknown variables in the schemes for iterative-convergence solution than other nodal methods listed in the literatures, and because the method utilizes the analytic solutions of the transverse-integrated one dimensional equations and a consistent approximation for a given spatial variable through all the solution procedures, which renders the use of an approximation for the transverse leakages no longer necessary, we can expect extremely accurate solutions and the solution would converge exactly when the mesh width is decreased or the approximation order is increased.
