Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the internet based coaching program for obesity management on weight control related knowledge, self-efficacy, eating habits, physical activity and obesity related physiological indexes in hypertensive patients. Methods: The study design was non-equivalent control group pre-test-post-test design. A total of 43 subjects were overweight or obese hypertensive patients aged 30 or older, who were divided into experimental group (n=23) and control group (n=20). This program lasting 12 weeks consisted of a weight control related education, internet based individual coaching for diet, exercise and behavior modification, offering internet community and health counseling. The variables were measured three times (before the treatment, after 6 weeks, and after 12 weeks) and the collected data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The experimental group had significantly improved weight control related knowledge, self efficacy, eating habits, body composition, and systolic blood pressure with time. Conclusion: The internet based coaching program was effective in improving obesity management, also this program will help to prevent cardiovascular disease of obese hypertensive patients.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of nutrition education and aerobic exercise program on weight control program of middle aged abdominal obese women. Data for the study were collected from February 14 to April 22, 2005. The study objects were 10 pre-obese women and 10 obese women. The results were as follows; Body weight, body mass index, waist-hip ratio and waist circumference of pre-obese group and obese group were significantly decreased. Nutrition education and aerobic exercise program on body weight and waist circumference were more effective in obese group than in pre-obese group. Total Cholestreol and Creatinine of pre-obese group and Total Cholestreol, Creatinine, U/A and Glucose of obese group were significantly decreased. TG(Triglyceride), BUN(Blood Urea Nitrogen), U/A(Uric Acid), Glucose, SGOT(Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase) and SGPT(Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase) of prer-obese group and TG, BUN, SGOT and SGPT of obese group were no differences. Obesity management program on Total Cholestreol were more effective in obese group than in pre-obese group. Therefore, it is concluded that the nutrition education and aerobic exercise program on weight control program of middle aged abdominal obese women were more effective in obese group than in pre-obese group.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the weight loss and the adverse events of overweight and obese adults on weight loss program with face-to-face treatment (FTF) and non-face-to-face treatment (NFTF) in 6 Korean Medicine obesity clinics. Methods: From March 2nd to March 10th, 2021, we collected data with a retrospective way from overweight and obese adults (body mass index, BMI≥23 kg/m2) who registered for a 12-week Gamitaeeumjowi-tang prescription program. After matching initial information of the FTF group and the NFTF group using propensity matching score, weight loss and BMI change were analyzed, and adverse events were evaluated in terms of causality, severity and system-organ classes. Results: Weight and BMI change from baseline to 12 weeks was -7.98±3.09kg (10.41±3.57%), -3.03±1.14kg/m2 and -7.30±3.11kg (9.59±3.45%), -2.76±1.15kg/m2 for FTF group and NFTF group, respectively. Body weight and BMI significantly decreased before and after treatment in both groups, and there was no significant difference in weight loss and BMI change between the two groups. No serious adverse events were reported. Conclusions: This study showed the potential that NFTF weight management treatment could be a good alternative way to FTF weight management treatment without serious adverse events.
This study was performed to investigate the effectiveness of nutrition education and exercise intervention in a weight management program. The subjects were 24 obese women whose body mass index (BMI) was over $25kg/m^2$. Nutrition education was given once a week, and subjects did swimming three times a week. The program lasted for 12 weeks. Nutrient intakes were assessed by 24 hour recall method. Also food habits, dietary behavior and nutrition knowledge were examined by self-administered questionnaires before and after the weight control program. Height, weight, body composition and blood composition were measured before and after the weight control program. Over the 12 weeks in the weight control program, body weight significantly decreased from 69.7kg to 65.8kg(p<0.001). Body fat and BMI also significantly decreased(p<0.001). Cholesterol level significantly decreased at p<0.001 and blood sugar also significantly decreased (p<0.05). After taking nutrition education, dietary behavior and nutritional knowledge scores increased, energy intakes decreased from 1426.5kcal to 1408.5kcal and calcium from animal products significantly increased(p<0.05). A negative correlation between nutrition knowledge and BMI(r=-0.42) existed(p<0.05). A negative correlation of eating behavior with EER(r=-0.48) showed(p<0.05). We concluded that combined nutrition education and exercise was an optimal method for reducing weight.
This study examines the combined effects of caloric restriction on body composition, blood lipid, and satiety in slightly overweight women by varying food density and aerobic exercise. Twenty-three women were randomly assigned to one of two groups for a four-week weight management program: the high-energy density diet plus exercise (HDE: n = 12, $22{\pm}2$ yrs, $65{\pm}7$ kg, $164{\pm}5$ cm, $35{\pm}4%$ fat) and low-energy density diet plus exercise (LDE: n = 11, $22{\pm}1$ yrs, $67{\pm}7$ kg, $161{\pm}2$ cm, $35{\pm}4%$ fat) groups. Subjects maintained a low-calorie diet (1,500 kcal/day) during the program. Isocaloric ($483{\pm}26$ for HDE, $487{\pm}27$ kcal for LDE) but different weight ($365{\pm}68$ for HDE, $814{\pm}202$ g for LDE) of lunch was provided. After lunch, they biked at 60% of maximum capacity for 40 minutes, five times per week. The hunger level was scaled (1: extremely hungry; 9: extremely full) at 17:30 each day. Before and after the program, the subjects' physical characteristics were measured, and fasting blood samples were drawn. The daily energy intake was $1,551{\pm}259$ for HDE and $1,404{\pm}150$ kcal for LDE (P > 0.05). After four weeks, the subjects' weights and % fat decreased for both LDE (-1.9 kg and -1.5%, P < 0.05) and HDE (-1.6 kg and -1.4%, respectively, P < 0.05). The hunger level was significantly higher for HDE ($2.46{\pm}0.28$) than for LDE ($3.10{\pm}0.26$) (P < 0.05). The results suggest that a low-energy density diet is more likely to be tolerated than a high-energy density diet for a weight management program combining a low-calorie diet and exercise, mainly because of a reduced hunger sensation.
The purpose of this study is to develop a computer-assisted nutrition counseling program for dietitians in elementary school foodservice. The program consists of four menus. The first menu is to assess the general status of the body, such as ideal body weight, obesity index, and physical development based on age, sex, height, and weight. The second menu is a dietary analysis program with respect to the Korean recommended dietary allowance. The third menu can be used for nutrition counseling to give suggestions about food habits and physical activities. The fourth menu is the data printing function to give consultations for clients which can be used for monitoring. This program can help dietitiants to provide nutrition counseling in the practice of elementary school food service.

Nutrient intakes were assessed by 24 hour recall method. Also food habits, dietary behaviors and nutritional knowledge were investigated by self-administered questionnaires before and after the weight control program and one month after completing the program. Height, weight, body composition and blood levels were measured before and after the weight control program and one month after completing the program. During the 12 weeks of the weight control program, body weight significantly decreased from an average of 69.7kg to 65.8kg and to 65.1kg after one month(p<0.05). Body fat and BMI also significantly decreased(p<0.01). Cholesterol and blood sugar levels decreased after 12 weeks and increased one month after completing the program. After taking nutritional education, the nutritional knowledge scores increased. Calcium intake significantly increased after completing the education and one month after completing the program(p<0.01). Iron intake significantly decreased from an average of 12.1g to 11.3g after completing the program and increased to 15.5g one month after completing the progrom(p<0.001). We concluded that our nutritional education and exercise program was effective for reducing and maintaining weight.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of a obesity management program for obese children at a urban elementary school. Methods: The study subjects were fifty five 4th-6th graders (experimental = 29, control = 26) whose obesity indices were 120% or over fiunr two schools in a urban area. Obesity management program was conducted weekly 12 sessions with 60-day morning group exercises. Study instruments were Imbody 310 (BIOSPACE, 2005) and summated scales. Data were collected from April 6 to June 22, 2006 and analysed by descriptive statistics, X2-test and ANCOVA using SPSS/PC+ 14.0 program. Results: 1. Obesity management program was effective to reduce body weight (t = -2.54, p = .014), fat mass percent (t = -2.37, p = .021) and to increase muscle mass (t = 2.36, p = .022). And all these were also significant statistically in ANCOVA 2. Obesity management program were also effective to decrease level of obesity (t = -3.28, p = .002), and that of stress (t = -2.19, p = .033) and to improve food habit (t = 2.52, p = .016). And all these were also significant statistically in ANCOVA. Conclusion: School-based obesity management program for obese children was effective to reduce weight, fat mass percent, obesity, and stress; increase muscle mass; and improve food habit. School-based obesity management program, therefore, can be recommended as a health promotion measure in elementary school as curricular basis.

Objective : As part of the Korean Medicine Official Development Assistance(ODA) and Public Health Project, we implemented a obesity management program(OMP) using Korean medicine in Uzbekistan and its follow-up study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. Method : We recruited the participants of whose Body Mass Index(BMI) were over $25kg/m^2$ and who agreed to participate in the program at the South Korea-Uzbekistan Friendship Korean Medical Hospital in Uzbekistan. The program consisted of auricular acupuncture, functional food, and education program on diet and exercise. It was provided once a week during 7-week period. Anthropometric measurements and blood test measuring total cholesterol, triglyceride, and glucose were performed at the baseline, the end of the program, and 10-month follow-up. At the end of the program and the follow-up, survey on satisfaction and self-evaluation of the effectiveness of the program was additionally conducted. Results : 43 out of 78 participants completed the program and were included in the analysis. The analysis of the main outcomes showed that there were significant decreases in anthropometric measurements such as body weight, waist circumference, body mass index (BMI) and body fat content as well as blood test including triglycerides, total cholesterol and blood glucose levels. In the follow-up study, 24 subjects participated and 19 subjects (79.1%) reported that they succeeded in weight control. Furthermore, many participants reported that they maintained healthy lifestyles like healthy diet and regular exercise. The satisfaction with the program was also relatively high, and the education program was selected as the most motivating intervention for weight control. The outcomes such as body weight, BMI, body fat content, and blood glucose level were maintained to be at the decreased level; however, waist circumference, total cholesterol and triglycerides levels either returned back to the baseline level or were elevated to the level higher than the baseline. Conclusion : This study suggests that the OMP using Korean medicine may contribute to weight control of obese population in Uzbekistan. It is meaningful in that the study shows the possibility of implementing health promotion programs using Korean medicine in other countries with different cultures. In the future, more efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs using rigorous methodologies and utilize the effective programs in ODA project will be needed.
Purpose: This study was aimed to develop and evaluate an obesity-management program for middle-aged obese women. Methods: Two 12 week session of the obesity-management programs constituted of weekly education and exercise such as aquarobic, pilates & yoga, and power-walking during 60 min for 3 days a week from June to December, 2006. The subjects included 47 middle-aged obese women between 30 and 60 yr. The effectiveness of the program was evaluated according to the change of body weight, body component, abdominal circumference, and serum lipid concentration. Data were measured by Inbody, tape measure, and blood test. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and a paired t-test with an SPSS/PC. Results: There were statistically significant decreases in body weight, body mass index, body fat mass, Hemoglobin, abdominal circumference, total cholesterol level, and low density lipoprotein after the program was completed. But there were not statistically significant difference in fat free mass, muscle mass and triglyceride. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that an obesity-management program have positive effects in body composition, abdominal circumference, and lipid metabolism for middle-aged obese women.
