보건소에서 실시한 직장인 비만 영양교육의 효과 (The Effect of Nutrition Education on Weight Control in Male Workers by the Community Health Center)

  • The principal objective of this study was to determine the importance of obesity management nutrition programs for obese male workers after performing a 10-week nutrition program and to compare changes in the obesity index, health behavior, meal intake, and blood constituents. The study subjects included 44 individuals, all without chronic disease. After the program, the weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, and waist-hip ratio (WHR) of the subjects dropped. Dietary life behavior scores increased. In particular, more than 30% increases were detected in self-control of surfeit, control of eating speed, temperance, and regular exercise items. Total caloric intake and average drinking intake dropped. Though insignificant, systolic pressure, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and sGPT all dropped as compared to the levels measured prior to the program. Fasting blood sucrose, triglyceride, $\gamma$-GTP, and atherogenic index dropped significantly. HDL-cholesterol, though insignificant, increased. As the result of examining correlations between the subjects' health life behavior, caloric intake, and improvement in obesity, we noted a significant correlation between self-control of surfeit and temperance in the health life behavior item, along with significant correlations among total calorie intake, surfeit percentage, and daily average drinking intake. These results demonstrated that nutrition program for obese workers performed at the Community Health Center had the effect of reducing obesity, improving health behavior, and improving clinical levels. Thus, it is advisable that obesity management programs be achieved, linking the center of local societies' health promotion projects, community health centers, and workplaces, and various programs should be developed to maintain and continue changes in workers' behaviors, such that the positive effects of improvement in obesity could be maintained, even after the program.

일부 대학생의 비만도와 건강행동, 구강건강행동 및 구강보건지식과의 관계 (The relationship between body mass index and health behavior, oral health behavior and oral health knowledge in some university student)

  • Objectives: We would like to manage university student's health factors by researching the connection between BMI and oral health and behavior of university students. And provide basic data by integrating for weight management programs that target overweight people can improve oral health. Methods: Self-evaluation questionnaires were surveyed for 315 students who agreed to participate in the survey, using questionnaires used in the preceding study were modified and complemented. We analyzed the data with frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, chi-square test와 ANOVA, Spearman correlation coefficient by using IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). The significance level for significance was set at 0.05. Results: People who smoke and alcohol drink have a lower score in their oral health behavior and oral health knowledge than those who do not. There was a significant difference between the BMI group, in the oral health behavior and oral health knowledge scores. BMI and smoking (r=0.230, p<0.001), alcohol drinking (r=0.121, p<0.05) were significant positive correlation. BMI and sleep time (r=-0.127, p<0.05), oral health behaviors (r=-0.133, p<0.001) were significant negative correlation. oral health behaviors and oral health knowledge (r=0.344, p<0.001) were significant positive correlation. Conclusion: Schools and communities will need to be educated about smoking and drinking, while at the same time developing programs that can improve oral health by integrating weight management programs.

비만관리 교육을 포함한 수중운동 프로그램이 지역사회 비만여성의 신체기능에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of an Aquatic Exercise Program with Obesity Management Education on Physical Function of Obese Women in Community)

  • 본 연구는 비만관리 교육을 통해 비만에 대한 지식이 선행된 상태에서, 실천한 수중운동 프로그램이 지역사회 비만여성의 신체기능에 미치는 효과를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상자는 D광역시 A보건지소의 건강교실에서 참여를 희망한 자로 51세에서 79세의 비만여성 20명이 8주 동안 프로그램에 참여하였다. 비만관리 교육이 포함된 수중운동 프로그램은 주 2회, 20분 동안 비만관리 교육과 60분의 수중운동 프로그램을 포함하여 총 120분으로 구성되었다. 비만관리 교육은 신체활동 실천과 식이섭취 교육에 중점을 두어 실시되었다. 본 연구결과를 통해 8주간의 비만관리 교육을 포함한 수중운동 프로그램 후 비만여성의 복부둘레, 체중, 체질량 지수가 감소되었고(p<.05, p<.001,p<.001), 악력이 증가되어(p<.05), 비만감소와 근력증진에 효과적인 프로그램임을 알 수 있었다. 후속 연구시 연구 대상자의 수를 늘리고, 대조군을 갖춘 실험설계 연구와 대상자가 직접 참여하고 주도하는 참여형 비만관리 수중운동 프로그램으로 개발 할 필요가 있다. 또한, 지속적인 생활습관 개선을 위한 추가적인 전략이 필요함을 제언한다.

인천시내 초등학교 학생의 영양교육 효과 분석 (The Analysis of Effect an Nutrition Education of Elementary School Children , Inchon)

  • Food service management without nutrition education in school foodservice is hardly to improve nutritional status of school children. Therefore, this study was attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition education. The nutrition education was done for 82 5th grade children of 2 elementary school in Inchon. It has been performed for two month from Sep. 6 to Nov. 11, 1999. Also, to evaluate the effects of nutrition education, subjects were taken pretest for food habit, attitude, nutrition knowledge, and dietary intake through the questionnaires. The statistical analysis of data was completed using SPSS program. The results were summarized as follows : 1) The average height and weight for subjects are 141cm and 34.4kg. Most of the subjects had 2 siblings. 83.8% of the subjects has never been taken nutrition education. Otherwise, 85.2% of the subjects responded that they need a nutrition education. 2) For the food habit test results, the posttest mean scores increased. Food habit on vegetables showed significant difference between pretest and posttest(p<0.05). 3) The attitude test did not show the significant difference between pretest and posttest. 4) For the nutrition knowledge test result, the pre and posttest means were 47.59 and 57.12 respectively(p<0.001). 5) The correlations of food habit, attitude, and nutrition knowledge was positive relationship between food habit and attitude in the pre and posttest. 6) Intake frequency of foods increased for the most foods except meat, egg, milk, and drink as compaired pretest with posttest. Cereal, fish, and oil intake was significantly increased. 7) The intakes of most nutrients were increased, among which carbohydrate, fiber, calcium, and vitamin C intakes significantly different after education. The education period of this study was too short to improve their eating behavior and food choice and may need a long-term education and development of materials for nutrition education.

서울지역 일부 남자 고등학생의 비만도 수준에 따른 영양표시에 대한 인지조사 (A study on the perception of nutrition labeling among high school boys based on their weight)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between knowledge of nutrition labeling and the effect on eating habits with 300 high school boys in Seoul. The subjects were divided into an underweight (UW) group (BMI < $18.5kg/m^2$, n = 42), a normal weight (NW) group ($18.5kg/m^2\;{\leq}\;BMI\;<\;23kg/m^2$, n = 129) and an overweight (OW) group (BMI ${\geq}\;23kg/m^2$, n = 79) based on their body mass index (BMI). The average age of participants was 17.8 years old and their mean height and weight were 174.9 cm and 66.5 kg. The mean BMI of subjects was $21.7kg/m^2$ which fell within the normal range. Seventy six point four percent of subjects perceived nutrition labeling and they acquired the information pertaining to it through TV and internet. The UW group and the OW group obtained it from their parents, relatives and friends, while NW group acquired it from school. There were significant differences among groups in the acquired source of the information on nutrition labeling (p < 0.05). The NW group and the OW group trusted nutrition labeling more than the UW group, but there were no significant differences among them. Forty five point five percent of the UW group and 40.7% the NW group were satisfied with nutrition labeling education, while only 15.8% of the OW group did it. The OW group checked nutrition labeling more than the UW group and the NW group at the point of food purchase. The primary reason for examining nutrition labeling was 'to check nutrient contents' in the UW group and the NW group, while the OW group examined it to improve health including regulation of body weight. There were significant differences among groups with regards to the reason for examining nutrition labeling (p < 0.001). The OW group was aware that nutrition labeling affected their eating ha-bits significantly more than the other groups (p < 0.05). Therefore, application-centered education on nutrition labeling and the strong support of the government is needed in order to improve nutrition labeling use and to apply the information from nutrition labeling into student dietary life.

유산소 훈련 강도 차이가 비만 어린이의 산화적 조직 손상에 의한 심혈관질환 병태생리적 경로에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Aerobic Training Intensity Difference on Cardiovascular Disease Pathophysiological Pathways Linking Oxidative Tissue Damage in Obese Children)

  • 본 연구는 12주 유산소 운동이 비만 어린이의 혈청지질성분, 항산화효소 활성 및 자율신경계 활동에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 피험자들은 16명의 비만어린이와 19명의 정상어린이를 대상으로 12주간 중강도 유산소 운동을 실시하였다. 측정 항목은 VO2peak, 신체조성, 혈청지질, ox-LDL, 8-OHdG, SOD, GPx 활성, total mRNA, 그리고 자율신경계 활성을 측정하였다. 그 결과 체중은 OW그룹에서 시기간 차이가 나타나지 않았으나, 12주 운동후 OR과 CO그룹에서 유의하게 증가하였다. WHR은 OR과 CO그룹에서 차이가 나타나지 않았으나, 12주 운동후 OW그룹에서 유의하게 감소하였다. 비만 그룹에서 baseline TG는 대조군 보다 더 높게 나타났으며(p<0.05), 자율신경계 활성은 낮게 나타났다. 항산화효소 유전자 발현은 모든 그룹에서 시기간 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 결론적으로 비만어린이에서 산화적 손상과 항산화효소 활성은 정상어린이와 유사하게 나타났다. 그러나 정상어린이에 비해 비만어린이의 TG는 더 높게 나타났고 자율신경계 활성은 더 낮게 나타났다. 따라서 비만어린이에서 TG의 증가와 자율신경계 활성의 감소는 비만환자의 출발점이 어린시기에 시작될 수 있음을 시사한다. 또한 규칙적인 유산소성 운동은 어린시기에서 항산화효소 발현을 수정하여 줄 수 있다고 사료된다.

강원도 원주지역 초,중,고등학생의 식습관 및 섭식행동에 관한 단면연구 (A Cross-Sectional Study of Dietary Habits and Eating Behavior amongst Elementary, Middle and High School Students in Wonju City)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigated the dietary habits of students in order to identify risk groups according to their Body Mass Index (BMI), and to compare the eating behavior of students in the normal range (19${\le}$24) and those in risk groups (BMI${\le}$19, 24${\le}$27, BMI>27). Method : 1176 elementary school students, 850 middle school students and 672 high school students in Wonju City, were the participants The instrument for this study was a structured questionnaire that included demographic data as well as dietary habits, and the eating behavior instrument developed by Stunkard & Messick(1985) and revised by Kim & Kim (1997). Result : 1) As students moved up ingrade level their dietary habits became more irregular and the degree that students chewed food was reduced 2) As students moved up in grade level, a greater number of the student did not eat breakfast. The reasons given were that there were not enough time before classes started(40.4%) and a lack of appetite in the morning(10.6%) in high school students. 3) As for supper, from 67.8 to 81.9% of subjects reported having regular supper. However the rest of the subjects did not eat supper because of anorexia and fear of weight gain. 4) The results identified risk groups according to their BMI showed that for elementary school students, 55.9% were in the low weight group, 5.5% in the overweight group, and 0.9% in the obese group. For middle and high school students, 40.6% and 35.5% respectively were in the low weight group, 7.4% and 6.3% in the overweight group, and 4.1% and 2.5% the obese group. 5) Comparisons of the eating behavior of students in the normal weight group with that of those in the three risk groups showed that there significant differences in 'hunger' and cognitive restraint of eating' in elementary school students, and significant differences in 'cognitive restraint of eating' in middle and high school students. Conclusion : The results of this study show that management of diet in school health should be addressed from both the aspect of lack of nutrition and that of excess nutrition. In other words, good diet is as important for students in the low weight group as it is for those in the overweight and obese groups. The establishment of good dietary habits and eating behavior in students, by nurses and dieticians should be done by providing repeated diet education and involvement in diet counseling.

비만아동과 그 부모에 대한 영양교육 효과의 평가(I)-신체 계측치와 혈액 생화학치를 중심으로- (Effect of Nutrition Education Program in Obese Children and Their Parents(I) - Focus on Anthropometric Values and Serum Biochemical Index -)

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of nutrition education program on anthropometric values and boichemical index in obese children who live in Gumi city. The subjects were 16 obese boys, 20 obese girls with obesity index over 130 and 36 of their parents. The nutrition education was carried out by the professional personnel such as doctors, professors, and dietitians. The children were provided with well-balanced lunch meals and had 40min-lectures on the reasonable weight management, 40 min-games and also had regular exercises (stretching, swimming) for 90 mins everyday during 2weeks of the program. The parents had 90 min-lectures on childhood obesity, diet therapy, behavior modification, and exercise for 6times. After the program, obesity index, BMI, % body fat were significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in boys and obese index, BMI, % body fat and WHR were significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in girls. Blood cholesterol and TG levels of girls were significantly decreased (p < 0.05). These findings show that the well-designed nutrition education program for obese children can be an effective approach to help them to improve their anthropometric values and biochemical index.

Brief Paper: An Analysis of Curricula for Data Science Undergraduate Programs

  • Today, it is imperative to educate students on how to best prepare themselves for the new data driven era of the future. Undergraduate education plays an important role in providing students with more Data Science opportunities and expanding the supply of Data Science talent. This paper surveys and analyzes the curricula of Data Science-related bachelor's degree programs in the United States. The 'required' and 'elective' courses in a curriculum for obtaining a B.S. degree were evaluated by course weight to indicate its necessity. As a result, it was possible to find out which courses were important in Data Science programs and which areas were emphasized for B.S. degrees in Data Science. We found that courses belong to the Data Science area, such as data management, data visualization, and data modeling, were more required for Data Science B.S. degrees in the United States.

중년여성의 건강관리 프로그램이 신체조성, 자기효능감 및 건강증진행위에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Health Management Program on Body composition, Self-efficacy and Health Promotion Behavior in Middle-Aged Women)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of a health management program on body composition(body weight, body fat mass, body fat ratio, lean body mass, abdominal fat ratio), self-efficacy and health promotion behavior in middle-aged women. This 6-week long program containing exercise and health education was developed by researchers. The study design was one group pretest-posttest design. Data for the study was collected from August 1 to September 15, 2002. The participants consisted of 15 middle - aged women living in the community. The collected data was analyzed using Wilcoxon Matched - Signed - Ranks Test by SPSS/WIN program The results are as follows : 1. There was a significant difference in body composition at week 6 compared to week 1. The body weight, body fat mass and body fat ratio significantly decreased(Z= -2.533, p=. 011 ; Z= -2.023, p= .043; Z= -2.023, p= .043). But the lean body mass significantly increased(Z= -2.226, p= .026). 2.There was a significant improvement in self-efficacy at week 6 compared to week 1(Z= -3.434, p= .001). 3.There was a significant improvement in health promotion behavior at week 6 compared to week 1(Z = -3.305, p= .001). In conclusion, health management program promoting self - efficacy for middle-aged women was effective in improving health promotion behavior. Further study with a longer follow up period is necessary in order to test the long term effect of the program.
