Experiments were conducted to evaluate the herbicidal characteristics of pyrazolate [4-(2,4-dichloro benzoyl)-1,3-dimethylpyrazol-5-yl-p-toluene-sulphonate] in greenhouse and lowland rice field. Pyrazolate controlled effectively most of annual weeds and such perennial weeds as Sagittaria pygmaea MIQ., Potamogeton distinctus A. BENN, Sagittaria trifolia L., Cyperus serotinus ROTTB, and Scirpus hotarui OHWI., whereas Eleocharis kuroguwai OHWI. was tolerent to pyrazolate. Although pyrazolate was applied at 2 to 10 days after transplanting, there was no difference in weed control The weeding effect was not influenced by percolation, depth of water and soil type. No difference in crop injury of rice was found with various levels of seedling age, transplanting depth, percolation, depth of water, soil type and time of application. When combined with butachlor, the mixture gave the same effect on rice phytotoxicity and weed control as pyrazolate alone did. Pyrazolate moved 1 to 2cm downward in lowland soil regardless of soil type and percolation. The herbicidal activity of pyrazolate persisted in soil for 60 to 90 days, depending on soil type, percolation and presence of soil microorganism.

This study was conducted to evaluate the control efficacy of dollar spot on creeping bentgrass after applying various amounts of tebuconazole, chlorothalonil and mixture of tebuconazole and chlorothalonil (tebuconazole+chlorothalonil). In effect of three fungicides on suppression against Sclerotinia homoeocarpa, tebuconazole and tebuconazole+chlorothalonil were found to inhibit more than 98% fungus growth on medium and 70% in chlorothalonil treatment. The control efficacy of tebuconazole at different rates of 31.25, 62.5, and $125a.i.\;mg\;m^{-2}$ on creeping bentgrass showed more than 80%. Application of tebuconazole ($125.0a.i.\;mg\;m^{-2}$), tebuconazole+chlorothalonil ($125.0a.i.\;mg\;m^{-2}+135.9a.i.\;mg\;m^{-2}$) and chlorothalonil ($135.9a.i.\;mg\;m^{-2}$) were suppressed 96%, 80%, 70% for the dollar spot severity, respectively. Correlation between application amount of fungicides and control efficacy of dollar spot was significantly positive, and suggested amount of tebuconazole, tebuconazole+chlorothalonil and chlorothalonil that might suppress more than 80% of dollar spot were calculated to 29.6, 132.2+142.8, and $157.0a.i.\;mg\;m^{-2}$, respectively.
Miscanthus are perennial rhizomatous grasses and considered as an ideal cellulosic bioenergy crop. Recently, it was reported that Miscanthus was damaged by the larvae of rice stem borer, Chilo suppressalis Walker, one of the most destructive pests of rice in Korea since the 1960s. This study was thus conducted to evaluate the insecticidal effects against rice stem borer in the Miscanthus cultivation fields for two years. The experiment consisted of four chemical agent plots, one environment-friendly agent plot, and untreated plot. Untreated plot showed significantly high damage of 50%, while Buprofezin Tebufenozide and Carbosulfan Methoxyfenozide treatment plots showed low damage rate of 2% with low larvae density of 1 and $2.3larvae\;m^{-2}$, respectively. Damage rates of Tebufenozide, ChlorantraniliproleIndoxacarb, and environment-friendly agent(MatrineWood vinegar solution) were 15, 26, and 18%, respectively, which were lower than that of untreated plot but higher than those of Buprofezin Tebufenozide and Carbosulfan Methoxyfenozide. In conclusion, rice insecticides were effective against rice stem borer in Miscanthus field. In particular, the treatments with Buprofezin Tebufenozide and Carbosulfan Methoxyfenozide showed excellent control effects with control value of 93.3 and 95.2. However, further studies with different types of insecticides should be carried out for the selection of insecticides with more effective control of rice stem borer.

Recently, cultivation and management technologies have been needed to adapt due to climate change, which is causing abnormal weather conditions. One technique is to increase the utilization of evergreen broad-leaved species with high ornamental value. A total of five treatments were installed (1m×22.5m), including 60g/㎡ and 80g/㎡ using two types mulching material with an overlapping and hole-drilling mulching method and these were compared to un-mulching treatment a total of planted 92㎡ attheWol-aTestSiteForestattheForestforBiomaterialsResearchCenterinJinju-si, Gyeongsangnam-dofor 10monthsusing3-years-oldQuercusglaucaThunb. In comparison with the control site, the 60g/㎡ overlapping method was about 1.9 times higher than the root collar diameter, but there was no statistical significance between the treatments. Healthy seedlings were found to meet these conditions due to high biomass values and below and T/R ratios of 3.0 or lower and H/D ratios of 7.0 or lower. Comparing the values of LWR, SWR, and RWR, which can be evaluated for seedling due to the mulching treatments, as compared to the control, the growth of the ground areas including leaves and stems was enhanced, but the growth of the underground areas containing roots tended to have high control values. Based on this, the SQI value, which can be evaluated for the comprehensive quality of seedlings, was found to be significantly different between the control site and the mulching treatment sites, confirming that the growth and growth improvement effects were achieved with mulching treatments. The chlorophyll content analysis showed that there was a significant difference from the control site, and it was judged that weed generation in the control acted as an environmental stress, causing a decrease in chlorophyll content. It was found that the overlapping 80g/㎡ of polypropylene mulching material generated about 4 times fewer weeds than the control, and the manpower required for the mulching test field and weeding were equal at 3.3 people/100㎡/1 day. Mulching treatments have demonstrated a significant difference in the promotion of growth and quality of the seedlings and are judged as an alternative that can reduce the economic burden incurred by the purchase of the supplies and the manpower required to weed forestry plantations.

Reports of herbicide resistance events are proliferating worldwide, leading to new cultivation strategies using combinations of pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicides. We analyzed the impact during a one-year cultivation cycle of several herbicide combinations on the rhizobacterial community of glyphosate-tolerant Bt-maize and compared them to those of the untreated or glyphosate-treated soils. Samples were analyzed using pyrosequencing of the V6 hypervariable region of the 16S rRNA gene. The sequences obtained were subjected to taxonomic, taxonomy-independent, and phylogeny-based diversity studies, followed by a statistical analysis using principal components analysis and hierarchical clustering with jackknife statistical validation. The resilience of the microbial communities was analyzed by comparing their relative composition at the end of the cultivation cycle. The bacterial communites from soil subjected to a combined treatment with mesotrione plus s-metolachlor followed by glyphosate were not statistically different from those treated with glyphosate or the untreated ones. The use of acetochlor plus terbuthylazine followed by glyphosate, and the use of aclonifen plus isoxaflutole followed by mesotrione clearly affected the resilience of their corresponding bacterial communities. The treatment with pethoxamid followed by glyphosate resulted in an intermediate effect. The use of glyphosate alone seems to be the less aggressive one for bacterial communities. Should a combined treatment be needed, the combination of mesotrione and s-metolachlor shows the next best final resilience. Our results show the relevance of comparative rhizobacterial community studies when novel combined herbicide treatments are deemed necessary to control weed growth.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of U-Granule formulation of molinate(S-ethylhexaphdro-1H-azepine-1-carbothioate) mixtures in green house and paddy field, Five minutes were taken for U-Granule to spread out 7m in irrigated water of direct seeded on flooded paddy surface. The concentration of active ingredient of molinate in molinate U-Granule application was similar to molinate+simetryn U-Granule application. But weeding effect of molinate+simetryn U-Granule on Echinochlor crus-galli was 23% higher Than single application of molinate at 7m from application point. Bioefficacy of molinate+simetryn+imazosulfuron U-Granule on control of Echinochloa crus-galli was higher than that of molinzte+imazosulfuton U-Granule, but those effect on Eleochairs kuroguwai was not significantly different. Only slight rice phytotoxicity was observed at 5m and 2m from application point of U-Granule molinate+simetryn+imazosulfuron and molinate+imazosulfuron, respectively. So it is concluded that there is little phytotoxicity problem in practical application of U-Granule of molinate mixtures.
The experiments were conducted to identify the herbicidal effect of 2,4-D{ (2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetic acid}, 2,4-D ethylester {ethyl 2,4- dichlorophenoxy acetate} and bentazon{3- isopropyl-1H-2,1,3- benzothiazin- 4-(3H)one 2,2-dioxide} on Sagittaria trifolia. Both 2,4-D and 2,4-D ethylester could completely control S. trifolia when applied before 80 days after transplanting of the tubers (DAT), but the weeding effect by bentazone decreased when applied after 60 DAT. 2,4-D and 2,4-D ethylester were effectively translocated from the treated parts to growing point. They killed S. trifolia completely when applied at 80 DAT under 3cm standing water depths, but the controlling effect by bentazone decreased at deeper than 1cm standing water depth. Formation of S. trifolia tuber was effectively suppressed with 2,4-D at 7g ai/10a and 2,4-D ethylester at 6g ai/10a when applied 60 DAT.

This experiment was carried out to investigate effects of herbicide application method on Abutilon avicennae control and corn yield at the forage experimental field, grassland and forage crop division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA, Suwon from 1996 to 1997. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with three replication. The herbicide application consisted of control, 2-3 leaf stage(Dicamba), 5-6 leaf stage (Dicamba) and soil treatment(Pendimetha1in). The hybrid of corn used in this experiment was P 3352. The results obtained are summarized as follow; 1. The plant and ear height was the lowest at control. Tasseling and silking date were delayed 3-4 day at control. The length and weight of ear were the highest at Dicamba treatment in 2-3 leaf stage. 2. The herbicide injury of corn was detected slightly after 10-20 day but the injury was recovered soon. The weed control efficiency was 96.7 and 81.8% at Dicamba treatment in 2-3 and 5-6 leaf stage, respectively. 3. The fresh and dry matter yield of Dicamba treatment in 2-3 leaf stage was higher than that of control by 36%, but no significant difference was found among herbicide application method. 4. Herbicide application method had little effect on the ADF, NDF and CP contents, but the CP and IVDMD of ear were higher than that of stover. The results of this experiment indicate that the application of Dicarnba in 2-6 leaf stage of corn will remove almost all of A butilon avicennae and increase DM yield of corn.
Correlations of soil and leaf nutrients and growth of young 'Enterprise' apple (Malus ${\times}$ domestica Borkh.) trees were analyzed with tree damage, such as Japanese beetle (JB; Popillia japonica Newman)-damaged leaves, vole damage to trunk, tree mortality, and weed density in a certified organic orchard in warm and humid environment of Southern USA. Interaction treatments of four mulch and three fertilizers were applied around trees as follows: mow-and-blow (MB), shredded paper (SP), wood chips (WC), and green compost (GC) as a mulch, with no fertilizer (NF), poultry litter (PL), and commercial organic fertilizer (CF) as a fertilizer applied in April. Vole damage to trunk and weed density were little correlated with mineral nutrients and tree growth. JB-damaged leaves were highly stimulated to 26.5% in GC-treated plots while tree mortality were increased by MB treatments. Biomass production per tree was approximately 3,700 g on the WC- and GC-treated plots, which was two times higher than those values observed on the other two mulch plots. JB-damaged leaves tended to get worse when nutrients in soil and leaf increased through the correlation analysis, with a strong positive relationship ($r^2=0.585$) observed between JB-damaged leaves and trunk cross sectional area, a vegetative indicator. Tree mortality was more negatively associated with nutrient contents and growth of trees than those of soil nutrients. Wood chips was considered for a local organic mulch materials to increase organic matter contents and to produce healthy young trees in Southern USA, with control insect, such as beetle, and vole density in an orchard habitat.
The experiment was carried out to clarify the root competition between rice and paddy weed. Sagittaria pygmaea, under field condition. Rice variety Joongwonbyeo(Tongil type) and Sangpoongbyeo(Japonica type) were transplanted and Sagittaria tuber was planted artificially at planting density of untreated control, 4, 8 and 16 tubers/$m^2$, respectively. The number of roots, root fresh weight and root activity of rice and Sagittaria were measured at 30, 45, 60 and 75 days after transplanting. The results obtained were as follows. The root growth of Joongwonbyeo was decreased greatly according to the increase of Sagittaria tuber density compared with Sangpoongbyeo. On the other hand, the root growth of Sagittaria competed with Joongwonbyeo was depressed at 45 days after transplanting, and the one competed with Sangpoongbyeo was depressed at 60 days after transplanting. It was concluded that the competition ability of Sangpoongbyeo against Sagittaria was greater than Joongwonbyeo mainly due to the tall height and large tillers. And also the root growth of Sagittaria competed with Joongwonbyeo was more depressed than that of Sangpoongbyeo.
