The purpose of this experiment was the physical properties of rubber compounds with DPCB and pure carbon black. Si-O peak in the silcia surface was observed at the range of wavenumber from 1,100 to 1,200 in the DPCB by FT-IR analysis. Cure rate of rubber compounds containing DPCB and organic silane coupling agent were (Si69) delayed compared with those containing pure carbon black. 300% modulus and interaction coefficient of DPCB with silane coupling agent were higher than those of pure carbon black and PICO weight loss amount showed constant value. It was found that $0^{\circ}C$ tan$\delta$ of rubber compounds with DPCB was larger than those of pure carbon black at 2.0% silane coupling agent based on 50 phr DPCB and $60^{\circ}C$ tan$\delta$ of rubber compounds with DPCB decreased as increasing the usage coupling agent. Consequently, it is postulated that DPCB is strong candidate material for lowering rolling resistance under constant abrasion resistance.

Historical records of earthquakes are generally used as a basis to extrapolate the instrumental earthquake catalog in time and space during the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA). However, the historical catalogs' input parameters determined through historical descriptions rather than any quantitative measurements are accompanied by considerable uncertainty in PSHA. Therefore, quantitative assessment to verify the historical earthquake parameters is essential for refining the reliability of PSHA. This study presents an approach and its application to constrain reliable ranges of the magnitude and corresponding epicenter of historical earthquakes. First, ranges rather than specific values of ground motion intensities are estimated at multiple locations with distances between each other for selected historical earthquakes by reviewing observed co-seismic natural phenomena, structural damage levels, or felt areas described in their historical records. Based on specific objective criteria, this study selects only one earthquake (July 24, 1643), which is potentially one of the largest historical earthquakes. Then, ground motion simulations are performed for sufficiently broadly distributed epicenters, with a regular grid to prevent one from relying on strong assumptions. Calculated peak ground accelerations and velocities in areas with the historical descriptions on corresponding earthquakes are converted to intensities with an empirical ground motion-intensity conversion equation to compare them with historical descriptions. For the ground motion simulation, ground motion prediction equations and a frequency-wavenumber method are used to consider the effects of possible source mechanisms and stress drop. From these quantitative calculations, reliable ranges of epicenters and magnitudes and the trade-off between them are inferred for the earthquake that can conservatively match the upper and lower boundaries of intensity values from historical descriptions.

In this study, simplified linear numerical method that can simulate wave generation and transformation by a moving bottom is introduced. Numerical analysis is conducted in wave number domain after continuity equation, linear dynamic and kinematic free surface boundary conditions and linear kinematic bottom boundary condition are Fourier transformed, and the results are expressed in space domain by an inverse Fourier transform. In the wavenumber domain, the dynamic free water surface boundary condition and the kinematic free water surface boundary condition are numerically calculated, and the velocity potential in the mean water level (z = 0) satisfies the continuity equation and the kinematic bottom boundary condition. Wave generation and transformation are investigated when the triangular and rectangular shape of bottoms move periodically. The results of the simplified numerical method are compared with the results of previous analytical solutions and agree well with them. Stability of numerical results according to the calculation time interval (Δt) and the calculation wave number interval (Δk) was also investigated. It was found that the numerical results were appropriate when Δt ≤ T(period)/1000 and Δk ≤ π/100.
We installed temporary strong motion seismometers at the ground surface, 1 m, 2 m, and 9 m at an existing seismic station that houses permanent seismometers installed at 20 m and 100 m, to investigate the influence of installation depth on the recorded ambient and anthropogenic noise level and the characteristics of earthquake signals. Analysis of the ambient noise shows that anthropogenic noise dominates where vibration period T < 1 s at the studied site, whereas wind speed appears to be strongly correlated with the noise level at T > 1 s. Frequency-wavenumber analysis of 2D seismometer array suggests that ambient noise in short periods are predominantly body waves, rather than surface waves. The level of ambient noise was low at 9 m and 20 m, but strong amplification of noise level at T < 0.1 s was observed at the shallow seismometers. Both the active-source test result and the recorded earthquake data demonstrated that the signal level is decreased with the increase of depth. Our result also shows that recorded motions at the ground and 1 m are strongly amplified at 20 Hz (T = 0.05 s), likely due to the resonance of the 3 m thick soil layer. This study demonstrates that analysis of ambient and active-source vibration may help find optimal installation depth of strong motion seismometers. We expect that further research considering various noise environments and geological conditions will be helpful in establishing a guideline for optimal installation of strong motion seismometers.
The Earth's total magnetic field was calculated from on board TAM(Three-Axis Magnetometer) observations of KOMPSAT-1 satellite between June 19th and 21st, 2000. The TAM's telemetry data were transformed from ECI(Earth-Centered Inertial Frame) to ECEF(Earth-Centered Earth-Fixed Frame) and then to spherical coordination. Self-induced field from the satellite bus were removed by the symmetric nature of the magnetic field. The 2-D wavenumber correlation filtering and quadrant-swapping method were applied to eliminate the dynamic components and track-line noise. To test the validity of the TAM's geomagnetic field, ${\phi}$rsted satellite's magnetic model and IGRF2000 model were used for statistical comparison. The correlation coefficients between KOMPSAT-1/${\phi}$rsted and KOMPSAT-1/IGRF2000 models are 0.97 and 0.96, respectively. The global spherical harmonic coeffi-cient was then calculated from the KOMPSAT-1 data degree and order of up to 19 and compared with those from IGRF2000, $\phi$rsted, and CHAMP models. The KOMPSAT-1 model was found to be stable to degree & order of up to 5 and it can give new information for the low frequency components of the global geomagtic field.
Processing of collagen from yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) abdominal skins was optimized by response surface methodology and central composite design. The values of independent variables at optimal conditions were NaOH concentration: 0.5 N, NaOH treatment time: 36.2 hr, pepsin concentration: 1:4.9 ratio (0.245%, w/v), and digestion time: 48.1 hr, respectively. The collagen content estimated under optimal conditions was 33.1%, and the actual experimental collagen content was 32.3%. Physicochemical properties of collagen from yellowfin tuna abdominal skin were investigated by amino acids analysis, SDS-PAGE, FT-IR, viscosity and denaturation temperature. Amino acids content of the collagen was 21.0%. SDS-PAGE pattern of the collagen showed two different $\alpha$-chain (${\alpha}_1$- and ${\alpha}_2$- chain), $\beta$-component and $\gamma$-component. The spectrum of FT-IR of the collagen showed wavenumber at 3,434, 1,650, 1,542 and $1,235\;cm^{-1}$ representing the regions of amide A, I, II and III, respectively. Relative viscosity of the collagen decreased continuously on heating up to $32^{\circ}C$, and the rate of decrease was retarded in the temperature range of $35-50^{\circ}C$. Denaturation temperature (Td) of the collagen solution (0.06%, w/v) was $31^{\circ}C$ and was lower than calf skin collagen ($35^{\circ}C$).

This paper presents the verification of accuracies of theoretical models for calculating the microwave reflections from rough sea surfaces. First of all, the Pierson-Moskowitz ocean spectrum was used to generate the rough sea surfaces. Then the relationship between the significant wave heights, root-mean-square(RMS) heights and wind speed was derived by estimating the significant wave heights and RMS heights of the generated sea surfaces according to various wind speeds, and compared the derived relationship with other measurement data sets. The reflection coefficients of the sea surfaces were calculated by using a numerical method(the moment method). Then, the numerical results were compared with Ament model, PO(Physical Optics) model, GO(Geometrical Optics) model and B-M(Brown-Miller) model for various roughness conditions(wind speed) and incidence angles. It was found that the Ament model is not accurate except for a very low roughness conditions($kh_{rms}$<0.4, k is wavenumber and $h_{rms}$ is RMS height). It was also found that at incidence angles lower than $70^{\circ}$, the PO and the GO models agree well with the numerical results, while the B-M model agrees well with the numerical analysis results at incidence angles higher than $80^{\circ}$ for very rough sea surfaces with $kh_{rms}$>10.
We study the deep structure of Korean Peninsula by estimating Moho depth and crustal thickness from using land and oceanic topography and free-air gravity anomaly data. Based on Airy-Heiskanen isostatic hypothesis, the correlated components between the terrain gravity effects and free-air gravity anomalies by wavenumber correlation analysis(WCA) are extracted to estimate the gravity effects that will be resulted from isostatic compensation for the area. With the resulting compensated gravity estimates, Moho depth that is a subsurface between the crust and mantle is estimated by the inversion in an iterative method with the constraints of 20 seismic depth estimates by the receiver function analysis, to minimize the uncertainty of non-uniqueness. Consequently, the average of the resulting crustal thickness estimate of Korean Peninsula is 32.15 km and the standard deviation is 3.12 km. Moho depth of South Korea estimated from this study is compared with the ones from the previous studies, showing they are approximately consistent. And the aspects of Moho undulation from the respective study are in common deep along Taebaek Mountains and Sobaek Mountains and low depth in Gyeongsang Basin relatively. Also, it is discussed that the terrain decorrelated free-air gravity anomalies inferring from the intracrustal characteristics of the crust are compared to the heat flow distributions of South Korea. The low-frequency components of terrain decorrelated Free-air gravity anomalies are highly correlated with the heat flow data, especially in the area of Gyeongsang basin where high heat flow causes to decrease the density of the rocks in the lower crust resulting in lowering the Moho depth by compensation. This result confirms that the high heat sources in this area coming from the upper mantle by Kim et al. (2008).
It is essential to evaluate the quality of Hanji record paper without damaging the record paper by previous destructive methods. The samples were Hanji record paper produced in the 1900s. Near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer was used as a non destructive method for evaluating the quality of record papers. Fourier transform (FT) spectrometer was used with 12,500 to 4,000 $cm^{-1}$ wavenumber range for quantitative analysis and it has high accuracy and good signal-to-noise ratio. The acidity and moisture content of Hanji record paper were measured by integrating sphere as diffuse reflectance type. The acidity (pH) of chemical factors as a quality evaluated factor of Hanji was correlated to NIR spectrum. The NIR spectrum was pretreated to obtain the coefficients of optimum correlation. Multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) and First derivative of Savitzky-Golay were used as pretreated methods. The coefficients of optimum correlation were calculated by PLSR (partial least square regression). The correlation coefficients ($R^2$) of acidity had 0.92 on NIR spectra without pretreatment. Also the standard error of prediction (SEP) of pH was 0.24. And then the NIR spectra with pretreatment would have better correlation coefficient ($R^2$ = 0.98) and 0.19 as SEP on pH. For moisture contents, the linearity correlation without pretreatment was higher than the case with pretreatment (MSC, $1^{st}$ derivative). As the best result, the $R^2$ was 0.99 and SEP was 0.45. This indicates that it is highly proper to evaluate the quality of Hanji record papers speedily with integrated sphere and FT NIR analyzer as a non-destructive method.
