A Study on the Fault Detection Technique of the Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System using Wavelet Transformation (웨이블렛 변환을 이용한 태양광 발전시스템의 고장진단에 관한 연구)

  • The fault detection technique of the grid-connected photovoltaic system using wavelet transform has been suggested in this paper. The additional hardware and sensors are required to detect the inverter failure in the conventional method, and it has the disadvantage of high cost and re-design problem if the inverter specification has been changed. The suggested method used the inverter voltage and current waveform to detect the failure and the location by the wavelet coefficients variations. The prompt and accurate diagnostic function is possible using the normalized standard deviation method. The merit of the proposed method is the simple calculation and precise diagnostic capabilities of the fault detection. The computer simulation is performed and the experimental result verifies the validity of the proposed method.

  • Impact Echo method has been successful in detecting a variety of defects in concrete structure. This study has the objectives to show important aspects of applying the Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) to signal processing of Modified Impact Echo(ModIE) Measurement systems and to the understanding of the seismic wave propagation. The data of ModIE were processed by DWT and compared with the results of conventional ModIE Analysis. Although it is inconsistent in the evaluated thickness of concrete lining, the DWT provides the features of separation, synthesis and de-noising in the original signal. The application of technique by wavelet was explained numerically with ABAQUS and performed experimentally with a real scale model in this work. Further works on the possible ways for creating new mother wavelet are specially needed for the enhancement of seismic signal analysis.

  • This paper presents a new wavelet-based structural diagnostic technique. A continuous Gabor wavelet transform is shown to a very effective method in detecting damage in a beam. The beam is excited by a broad-band excitation force. For satisfactory results, the selection of an optimal wavelet is very important though the wavelet transform outperforms existing techniques such as the Wigner-Ville distribution. A specific example is given in a solid circular cylinder with a small defect.

  • It is well known that wavelet transform is a signal processing technique which can display the signals on in both time and frequency domain. In this paper, we proposed a new approach based on stationary wavelet transform to provide an enhanced approach for eliminating noise. A 'stationary wavelet transform', where the coefficient sequences are not decimated at each stage, is described. The testing result on sample iris images has shown an enhanced image quality and also show that it has a superior performance than traditional discrete wavelet transform.

Damage detection in stiffened plates by wavelet transform

  • In this study, numerical analysis was carried out by using the finite element method to construct the first mode shape of damaged stiffened plates, and the damage locations were detected with two-dimensional discrete wavelet analysis. In the experimental analysis, four different damaged stiffened structures were observed. Firstly, each damaged structure was hit with a shaker, and then accelerometers were used to measure the vibration responses. Secondly, the first mode shape of each structure was obtained by using the wavelet packet, and the location of cracks were also determined by two-dimensional discrete wavelet analysis. The results of the numerical analysis and experimental investigation reveal that the proposed method is applicable to detect single crack or multi-cracks of a stiffened structure. The experimental results also show that fewer measurement points are required with the proposed technique in comparison to those presented in previous studies.

  • Edge, detected from image processing includes variety of information about original image's location and shape etc. So a lot of researches for detecting those edges have been continuing even now. And with the recent progress of wavelet theory which is presented as a new technique of signal processing fields, wavelet transform is being applied to many fields which analyzes singularities of image. For this reason, this paper detected original image's edge from the information such as local maximum, direction, and location of the wavelet transform data by using wavelet function which is independent of width of line.

  • This paper proposes a novel wavelet transform based algorithm for the seasonal load forecasting. In this paper, Daubechies DB2, DB4 and DB10 wavelet transforms are adopted to predict the seasonal loads and the numerical results reveal that certain wavelet components can effectively be used to identify the load characteristics in electric power systems. The wavelet coefficients associated with certain frequency and time localization are adjusted using the conventional multiple regression method and then reconstructed. In order to forecast the final loads through a four-scale synthesis technique. The outcome of the study clearly indicates that the wavelet transform approach can be used as an attractive and effective means of the seasonal load forecasting.

  • The purpose of the work is to present successful applications of a modified wavelet shrinkage method for the accurate and fast estimation of a transfer function. Although the experimental process of determining a transfer function introduces not only Gaussian but also non-Gaussian noises, most existing estimation methods are based only on a Gaussian noise model. To overcome this limitation, we propose to employ a modified wavelet shrinkage method in which L1 -based median filtering and L2 -based wavelet shrinkage are applied repeatedly. The underlying theory behind this approach is briefly explained and the superior performance of this modified wavelet shrinkage technique is demonstrated by a numerical example.

  • In this paper, a new efficient feature extraction method based on Daubechies discrete wavelet transform is presented. This paper especially deals with the assessment of process statistical parameter using the features extracted from the wavelet coefficients of measured acoustic emission signals. Since the parameter assessment using all wavelet coefficients will often turn out leads to inefficient or inaccurate results, we selected that level-3 stage of multi decomposition in discrete wavelet transform. We make use of the feature extraction parameter namely, maximum value of acoustic emission signal, average value, dispersion, skewness, kurtosis, etc. The effectiveness of this new method has been verified on ability a diagnosis transformer go through feature extraction in stage of aging(the early period, the middle period, the last period)

  • The new islanding detection method using wavelet energy is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is based on the autocorrelation of the wavelet energies, which is obtained from the high-frequency components of the grid voltage. It has the enhanced detection capabilities in the UV/OV/UF/OF region, which the conventional passive methods cannot obtain. The mathematical theories on the wavelet are presented, and the performance effectiveness is proved by the experimental results.
