Development of Multi-Band Multi-Mode SDR Radar Platform (다중 대역 다중 모드 SDR 레이다 플랫폼 개발)

  • This paper presents the new development result of the multi-band, the multi-mode SDR(Software Defined Radar) platform. The SDR hardware platform is implemented by using the reconfigurable multi-band RF transceiver and antenna modules of S, X, and K-bands, and a programmable signal processing module. The SDR software platform is implemented by using the multi-mode waveform generation of CW, Pulse, FMCW, and LFM Chirp as well as the adaptable algorithm library of signal processing and open API software modules. Through the integrated test of the SDR platform, the operational performance was verified in real-time. Also, through the field-application test, the ground target and air-vehicle drone target were successfully detected and their test results were presented.

Multistage Inverters Control Using Surface Hysteresis Comparators

  • An alternative technique to control multilevel inverters with vector approximations has been presented. The innovative control method utilizes specially designed two-dimensional hysteresis comparators to simplify the implementation and improve the resultant waveform. The multistage inverter designed with maximum number of levels is operated in such a way to approximate the reference voltage vector by exploiting the large number of multilevel inverter vectors. A three-stage inverter with the main high voltage stage made of three phase, six-switch and singly-fed inverter is considered for application to the proposed design. The proposed control concept is to maintain a higher voltage stage state as long as it can lead to a target vector. High and medium voltage stages controllers are based on surface hysteresis comparators to hold the switching state or to perform the necessary change to achieve its reference voltage with minimal switching losses. The low voltage stage controller is designed to approximate the target reference voltage to the nearest inverter vector using the nearest integer rounding and adjustment comparators. Model simulation and prototype test results show that the proposed control technique clearly outperforms the previous control methods.

  • This paper describes the simple single phase air-conditioner of power factor correction (PFC) circuit. By adopting PFC in the rectifier, we can reduce harmonic into power line, improve the efficiency and lower the total system cost compared to conventional inviter only. Also, system performance is improved by stabilizing the output voltage of PFC. To improve the current waveform of diode rectifiers, we propose a new operating principle for the voltage diode rectifiers. A circuit design method is shown by experimentation and confirmed simulation. It explained that compared conventional pulse-width modulated (PWM) inverter with half pulse-width modulated (HPWM) inverter HPWM inverter. Proposed HPWM inverter eliminated dead-time by lowering switching loss and holding over-shooting.

  • This paper presents a study on the DSP(Digital Signal Processor) controller for the PBW(power-by-wire) system using BLDC(Brushless Direct Current) servo motor pump. The PBW hydraulic actuator was realized with hydraulic pump driven by BLDC servo motor, hydraulic cylinder and controller. This PBW system needs speed control of servo motor for linear thrust action of hydraulic cylinder. This paper implements a servo controller with vector control algorithm and MIN-MAX PWM technique. As CPU of a controller, TMS320F2812 DSP was adopted because it has PWM waveform generator, A/D converter, SPI(Serial Peripheral Interface) port and many input/output port etc.

  • For the first time in Korea, a 100hp high Tc superconducting(HTS) motor has been designed, developed and successfully tested recently. The design was based on 2-dimensional electromagnetic field analysis of cylindrical coordinate. The field winding of rotor was wound with Bi-2223 tapes and tested after assembled with other rotor components. The stator had air-gap type armature windings which allow higher terminal voltage and more sinusoidal voltage waveform than conventional iron cored machines. Steady state open & short-circuit test and resistive load test were conducted also in generator mode. The fabrication and test results of this machine were discussed in this paper.

  • This paper presents a novel single-stage active-clamp type high frequency resonant inverter. The proposed topology is integrated full-bridge boost rectifier as power factor corrector and active-clamp type high frequency resonant inverter into a single-stage. The input stage of the full-bridge boost rectifier works in discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) with constant duty cycle and variable switching frequency. So that a boost converter makes the line current follow naturally the sinusoidal line voltage waveform. By adding additional active-clamp circuit to conventional class-E high frequency resonant inverter, main switch of inverter part operates not only at Zero-Voltage-Switching mode but also reduces the switching voltage stress of main switch. Simulation results have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed high frequency resonant inverter. Characteristics values based on characteristics estimation through circuit analysis is given as basis data in design procedure. Also, experimental results are presented to verify theoretical discussion. This proposed inverter will be able to be practically used as a power supply in the fields of induction heating applications, fluorescent lamp and DC-DC converter etc.

  • This paper proposes a novel soft-switched auxiliary resonant circuit to provide a Zero-Voltage-Transition at turn-on for a conventional PWM boost converter in a PFC application. The proposed auxiliary circuit enables a main switch of the boost converter to turn on under a zero voltage switching condition and simultaneously achieves both soft-switched turn-on and turn-off. Moreover, for the purpose of an intelligent multi-chip power module fabrication, the proposed circuit is designed to satisfy several design constraints including space saving, low cost, and easy fabrication. As a result, the circuit is easily realized by a low rated MOSFET and a small inductor. Detail operation and the circuit waveform are theoretically explained and then simulation and experimental results are provided based on a 1.8 kW prototype PFC converter in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.

  • Capacitor Charging Power Supply(CCPS) is one of the most important components of a pulsed power system. The CCPS is widely used in source of lasers, accelerators and plasma generators. This paper presents design of a dead time control circuit and operation characteristics for stable high repetition rate of high voltage CCPS. The CCPS consists of battery, high voltage transformer and controller with a dead time control circuit. A dead time control circuit was simulated by PSpice. The performance test of the CCPS was carried out with a 7[nF] load capacitor at output voltage of 50[kV] and a pulse repetition frequency of 100[Hz]. As a result, we can verify that charging and discharging waveform is stable at 100[Hz]. The experiment results indicate that 3[ms] dead time made it possible for stable high repetition rate of 100[Hz]. This paper paves the way for designing an advanced CCPS which is more applicable outside experiments.

  • This paper propose a improved operating characteristics of the 5-phase 5kW within developed the surface permanent mount synchronous generator (SPMSG) in order to make a study of a polyphase ac motors keeping hold of more advantages. The developed manufacturing motor was necessary to do improvement of voltage regulation, efficiency, operating characteristics, and so on at the rated load. There are remake a redesigned and distributed stator winding connection without changing the frames of stator and rotor core in previous established generator by a repeat tests. There are shown a amplitude and waveform of the generated electromotive force, FFT analysis of harmonics within output voltages, and reviewing a experiment results in load of resistive and 5-phase induction motor by variable generator output frequency.

  • A Hybrid type Linear Pulse Motor(LPM) for low cost is designed as single side stator structure. The static and dynamic characteristics measurement systems are designed. Experimental measurement systems, which measure the static and dynamic characteristic of the LPM, are uggested for the prototype LPM. It becomes known the values of the thrust forces. Finally the microstep drive method is adopted to the drive of prototype LPM. The waveform difference is measured between the microstep method and rectangular wave. From the experimental results, it can be confirmed that the repetitive ripple of the thrust force of the prototype LPM are reduced by taking the microstep drive method.
