Wave energy is dissipated mainly by friction on the seabed until the waves reach the surf zone. Many researchers have investigated the mechanism of wave friction and the bottom shear stress induced by wave motion at a certain point is now well estimated by introducing the wave friction factor related to the near bed velocity given by linear wave theory. The variation of wave energy or wave height over a long distance can be, however, estimated by an iteration process when the propagation of waves is strongly influenced by bed friction. In the present study simple semi-theoretical equation has been developed to compute the variation of wave height for the condition of wave propagation on a constant beach slope. The ratio of wave height is determined by the product of shoalng factor and wave height friction factor (frictional wave energy dissipation factor). The wave height estimated by the new equation is compared with the wave height estimated by the solution of numerical integration for the condition that the waves propagate on a constant slope.

The paper deals with improvement of a piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer for measuring both pipe thickness and flow velocity. The transducer structure is based on the conventional transducers for measuring flow velocity by obliquely transmitting ultrasonic waves to the flow direction. The transducer invented earlier for measuring flow velocity and pipe thickness had an advantage of including only one piezoelectric disc, but for the thickness measurement the ultrasonic wave had to be reflected twice in a wedge material to be transmitted vertically to a pipe, and thus the wave signal was too weak. The transducer has been improved to transmit waves for thickness measurement vertically to a pipe without any prior reflection by electrically connecting two piezoelectric discs, one for flow velocity and the other for pipe thickness measurement. By comparing the measured results of specimen thickness with the improved transducer and conventional transducers, the accuracies of the improved one have been evaluated in the pipe thickness measurements.
The Okchon Formation and the Mesozoic granite of the Boeun, Chungbuk are compared in terms of seismic wave velocities estimated from the field experiment, and seismic wave velocities in 3-D measured from the rock specimen. P-wave velocity for the field data ranges from 861 m/s (Guryongsan-2 Formation) to 2697m/s (Bulguksa Granite). P-wave anisotropy also ranges from 46% (Changri Formation) to 81% (Bulguksa Granite), with an average value of 68.5%. P-wave velocities for the rock specimens from Guryongsan-1, Guryongsan-2, Changri, and Munjuri Formations are greater than 5000m/s. S-wave velocities for those specimens are approximately 3500m/s, which is 3-5 times grater than the ones estimated from the field experimental data. P-wave anisotropy for the specimens from Bulguksa Granite and Guryongsan-1 Formation exceeds 60%, which is compared to 30% for the other specimens. This value is much smaller than average P-wave anisotropy (69.5%) for the field data. It is suggested that velocity difference, associated with the propagation direction, is much greater for the field data than for the specimens.
A 2-D Fluent-based numerical wave tank(FBNWT) capable of simulating wave propagating and overtopping is presented. The FBNWT model is based on the Reynolds averaged Naiver-Stokes equations and VOF free surface tracking method. The piston wave maker system is realized by dynamic mesh technology(DMT) and user defined function(UDF). The non-iteration time advancement(NITA) PISO algorithm is employed for the velocity and pressure coupling. The FBNWT numerical solutions of linear wave propagation have been validated by analytical solutions. Several overtopping problems are simulated and the prediction results show good agreements with the experimental data, which demonstrates that the present model can be utilized in the corresponding analysis.

A theoretical method is described to simulate the propagation of turbulent premixed flames in a closed vessel. The objective is to develop and test an efficient technique to predict the propagation speed of flame as well as the geometric structure of the flame surfaces. Flame is advected by the statistically generated turbulent flow field and propagates as a wave by solving twodimensional Hamilton-Jacobi equation. In the simulation of the unburned gas flow field, following turbulence properties were satisfied: mean velocity field, turbulence intensities, spatial and temporal correlations of velocity fluctuations. It is assumed that these properties are not affected by the expansion of the burned gas region. Predictions were compared with existing experimental data for flames propagating in a closed vessel charged with hydrogen/air mixture with various turbulence intensities and Reynolds numbers. Comparisons were made in flame radius growth rate, rms flame radius fluctuations, and average perimeter and fractal dimensions of the flame boundaries. Two dimensional time dependent simulation resulted in correct trends of the measured flame data. The reasonable behavior and high efficiency proves the usefulness of this method in difficult problems of flame propagation such as in internal combustion engines.

In this paper, we were investigated the detectability on various specimen in self-designed test field using the GPR system with three antenna elements. The GPR system was constantly radiated 730MHz frequency. To examine the detectability on various condition, the test were experimented using different materials, size and buried depth. As an adjusted wave-propagation velocity, the location of hyperbolic curve pattern were displayed B-scan CRT. And the pattern was exactly positioned when it was compared to the real buried-depth. Therefore, we can confirm similarity between the wave-propagation velocity and previous results.

This study proposes ZnO thin film as a piezoelectric material for SAW (surface acoustic wave) filter. The ZnO thin film with thickness $2.6{\mu}m$ was deposited (0001)-oriented sapphire by RF magnetron sputtering technique. IDTs (inter-digital transducers) electrodes were patterned upon SAW filter mask with solid finger structure unapodized using lift-off method on ZnO piezoelectric thin film. SAW propagation velocity was measured with the center frequency by HP 8753C network analyzer. A fabricated ZnO SAW filter exhibited a high propagation velocity of 5433 $^m/s$ and relatively insertion loss of -53.391dB at $\lambda=80{\mu}m$. The side-lobe attenuation of the center frequency was about 17dB. When the wavelength was $80{\mu}m$$(\lambda/4=20{\mu}m)$, the center frequency was 67.907 MHz. $k^2$ (electromechanical coupling coefficient) was 15.84 %.
3D seismic data processing methods such as full waveform inversion or reverse-time migration require 3D wave propagation modeling and heavy calculations. We compared efficiency and accuracy of a Xeon Phi coprocessor to those of a high-end server CPU using 3D frequency-domain wave propagation modeling. We adopted the OpenMP parallel programming to the time-domain finite difference algorithm by considering the characteristics of the Xeon Phi coprocessors. We applied the Fourier transform using a running-integration to obtain the frequency-domain wavefield. A numerical test on frequency-domain wavefield modeling was performed using the 3D SEG/EAGE salt velocity model. Consequently, we could obtain an accurate frequency-domain wavefield and attain a 1.44x speedup using the Xeon Phi coprocessor compared to the CPU.
As large waves enter a harbor, during their propagation, the motions a floating body are large and if may even be damaged by waves. This phenomenon may be caused by harbor resonance, resulting from large motion at low wave frequency, which is close to the natural frequency of a vessel. In order to calculate the motion of a floating body in a harbor, it is necessary to use the wave forces containing the body-harbor interference. The simulation program to predict the motions of a floating body by waves in a harbor is developed, and this program is based on the method of velocity potential contiuation method proposed by Ijima and Yoshida The calculated results are shown by the variation of wave frequency, wave angle, and the position of a floating body.

This study is conducted to scrutinize agitation effects of an ultrasonic standing wave on the dynamic behavior of methane/air premixed flame. The propagating flame is caught by high-speed schlieren images, through which flame front and local flame velocity are analyzed and obtained, too. It is revealed that the propagation velocity with ultrasonic standing wave is larger than the case without excitation except around the flammability limits. Also, vertical locations of distortions and depth of dents of the front are constant, unless the ultrasonic standing wave characteristics are not changed.
