Study on the Improvement of Weld-joint Reliability in Waterwall Tubes of the Ultra Supercritical Coal Fired Boiler (석탄화력발전용 초초임계압(USC) 보일러 수냉벽 튜브 용접 신뢰성 향상에 대한 연구)

  • The low alloy-steel material(1.0Cr-0.5Mo, SA213T12), which has widely been used for the waterwall tube in the conventional power plant, do not have enough creep rupture strength for waterwall tubes of the Ultra-supercritical(USC) boilers. According to this reason, the high-strength low alloy-steel(2.25Cr-1.0Mo, SA213T22) has newly been adopted for the waterwall tube in the USC boilers. This paper presents failure analysis on weld-joint of the waterwall tubes in USC boilers. Visual inspections were performed to find out the characteristics of the fracture. Additionally both microscopic characteristics and hardness test were carried out on failed tube samples. Failures seem to happen mainly because the welding process has not been conducted strictly.(preheating, P.W.H.T and so forth). Thus, this paper has the purpose to describe the main cause of the poor welding process and to explain how to prevent similar failures in those weld-joints.

  • Boiler is one of the most important utilities providing steam to turbine in order to supply mechanical energy in thermal power plant. It is composed of thousands of tubes for high efficient heat transfer. Water is converted to steam inside the waterwall tubes. Many chemical components dissolved in boiler water come out of itself, deposit to the tube wall surface, prohibit heat transer, raise tube metal temperature, eventually fail the boiler tubes. Several tasks such as fracture surface study, tensile test, hardness test, metallurgical test, composition analysis of sticking elements were conducted to identify the root cause of tube failure.

  • In this study, boiler tube thickness measurement and numerical analysis were conducted for standard 500MW coal-fired power plant in order to research the mechanism of tangential-fired boiler corrosion empirically. The most dominant corrosion mechanism of tangential-fired boiler waterwall was corrosion by sulfur contained in the unburned carbon. And the secondary mechanism was $H_2S$ gas corrosion at localized reducing atmosphere. It is required to decrease the air-stage combustion operation in order to mitigate the waterwall tube corrosion. Also stringent coal pulverization quality control and reinforcing work for corrosion susceptible area such as anti-corrosion coatings is required

  • Although fireside corrosion of heat transfer surfaces in coal fired steam generators has been a problem to some extent for a number of tears, with the advent of low NOx firing systems these surfaces can be exposed to conditions that will exacerbate wastage rates. Numerous reports of waterwall wastage in coal fired boilers have appeared in the literature. It is believed that wastage results both from gaseous phase attack of metal surfaces and from deposition of ash and unburned fuel. Gaseous phase attack is known to occur in the presence of reducing sulfur species such as $H_2S$ and in the presence of fuel chlorine. The highest wastage rates are thought to be due to deposition of unoxidized material and the presence of fuel chlorine. Localized wall and near wall conditions that may exacerbate wastage include reducing conditions, high temperatures, high heat fluxes, and a high fraction of unoxidized material deposited. So, this study is directed at developing an advanced corrosion model in coal-fired utility boilers.

  • A new type plasma reactor is proposed to decompose CF4 diluted with N2 gas in atmospheric pressure. The arc plasmas is surrounded with a waterwall which acts as a source of water vapor, the solvent of HF, resultant product after decomposition, and conveyer to take away fluorine compound from exhaust gas. Abatement more than 99% is achieved by small size plasmas such as 1 cm in diameter, 25cm in length and 3.4KW of DC discharge power in such gas as the mixture of 100 sccm of CF4 and 15 slm of N2. Reactors of this type are to be expanded to such a system as Nitrogen flow of 50 slm with 200 sccm of CF4 and 7-8 KW discharge power.

  • 화력발전용 순환유동층 보일러는 환경오염의 주요인인 질소산화물(NOx)과 황산화물(SOx)의 배출량이 적은 친환경 화력발전용 보일러로 화력발전 업계에서 각광받고 있는 추세이다. 그러나 순환유동층 보일러의 연료인 유동매체는 미분탄과 같이 작지만 단단한 고체이므로 유동매체의 타격으로 인해 워터월(waterwall) 튜브의 마모는 물론 누설까지 야기할 수 있다. 순환유동층 보일러 튜브에서 누설된 증기는 보일러 내부에 클링커(Clinker)를 발생시키고 이는 순환유동층 보일러 튜브 표면에 응고되어 열전도율을 감소시킬 뿐만 아니라 보일러 운전정지의 원인이 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 음향방출 센서를 이용하여 화력발전용 순환유동층 보일러 튜브의 누설 위치를 추정하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안 방법에서는 매질의 분자단위 이동에 의해 발생되는 탄성파를 감지할 수 있는 음향방출 센서를 이용하고, 보일러 워터월 튜브의 멤브레인 용접부와 비용접부(seamless)의 감쇠율을 고려한 위치별 센서 감도 추정 알고리즘을 통해 워터월 튜브의 위치별 진폭 크기를 히트맵으로 표현할 수 있다.
