  • With biological organism brown pollutants layers are thickly formed on inner stone materials in Gyeongjuseokbinggo(Ice storage in Gyeongju). Some simples were taken from this layer and its chemical composition, mineral composition, salt and microstructures were analyzed. This study shows that the pollutants layer can be removed easily, because it attached softly in stone surface. But because of its serious weathering state the stone surface also can be removed during the removing process. The origins of brown layer are assumed to be the soil in the mound over the Seokbinggo and the coarse sandy soil in the entrance. For the preservation of the Seokbinggo Waterproof and replacement of the coarse sandy soil should take precedence over the remove works. Subsequently moistureproof works should be enforced.

  • The purpose of this study is to microencapsulate a highly hygroscopic drug, pyridostigmine bromide (PB), with a waterproof wall material, in order to increase the flowability of the drug particles. Polyvinylacetaldiethylaminoacetate (AEA), Eugragit E and Eugragit RS were examined as the wall materials. Microcapsules containing PB were prepared by the evaporation technique in an acetone/liquid paraffin system using aluminum tristearate as a core material, and evaluated for drug encapsulation efficiency, surface morphology, particle size and drug dissolution. The encapsulation of PB in the wall material was almost complete. Among the wall materials examined, AEA exhibited the most excellency in shape, surface texture, flowability, size distribution of microcapsules. Above results suggest that AEA would be a potential wall material for microcapsulation of highly hygroscopic drugs, such as PB. Through microencapsulation with AEA, inconvenience of handling of PB powders encountered in the process of weighing and packing the powders to tableting die or capsule body could be greatly improved.

  • In this work, narrow-band green-emitting CsPbBr3 particles are embedded in commercialized glass composites by a facile dry process. By optimizing the method through sintering in glass frit (GF) composites including CsBr and PbBr2, used as precursors, the encapsulation of CsPbBr3 particles made them waterproof with green fluorescence. To improve the fluorescent properties by reducing aggregation of CsPbBr3, fumed silica (FS) is additionally used to help particles avoid bulking up in the glass matrix. The CsPbBr3 perovskite/glass composites are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) maps, which support the existence of CsPbBr3 particles in the glass matrix. The photoluminescence (PL) properties demonstrate that the emission spectrum peak, full width at half maximum (FWHM), and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) values are 519 nm, 17 nm, and 17.7 %. We also confirm the water-resistant properties. To enhance water/moisture stability, the composite sample is put directly into water, with its PLQY monitored periodically under UV light.

  • Non-curable rubberized polymer asphalt waterproof coating materials in Korea and China are manufactured without advanced quality control techniques and common standard, And they are exposed consistent water leakage problems. Import and application of Korean waterproofing products and installation methods is difficult in the present situation as the Chinese standard(JC/T 2428) is different in nature with the Korean counterpart products, And quality assurance is inevitable based on mutual standards. In order to resolve this issue, alternatives such as using standards provided by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) are generally employed, but there is no such ISO standard as a waterproof material for non-curable rubberized polymer asphalt material. Furthermore, it is unreasonable to develop the ISO standard for rubber asphalt seals for exchange in terms of time and cost. This study proposes that the establishment of a quality standard that can be applied for both countries will be required via an joint international standard that outlines the properties of materials if applied in mutual trade exchange.

  • In period of rapid economic development, as doing river conservation work by using harmful materials environmental pollution has adversely effected humans, animals and plants frequently. For recovery of environmental pollution it needs a lot of time and cost. Therefore, in this study, in order to take an environment-friendly method which is also economical and durable both results of the laboratory model test and field test were compared and analyzed. According to the results of the laboratory model test, those methods such as concrete paving, asphalt paving, bentonite mat, stabilized soil method and mixed soil method have small amount of seepage, but on the other hand compaction soil, grassland and permeable materials have considerable amount of seepage. The results of field test show a similar tendency with laboratory test and have been satisfied to assess standard of domestic water permeability below $1.0{\times}10^{-7}cm/sec$ and unconfined compressive strength is also than 1.0MPa so it has been satisfied about standard. In conclusion, as compaction rate increased, as unconfined compression strength increased and coefficient of permeability decreased.

  • This study outlines a successful and effective plan for repairing water-leakage cracks in concrete structures. The lack of adequate solutions for water-leakage cracks often results in unnecessarily high repair costs, and as such this remains a problem that requires constant attention. Unfortunately, despite the availability of a vast number of different materials and methods, it is often difficult to attain a perfect waterproof sealing The reason for the difficulties in the repair of water-leakage cracks can be attributed to an insufficient knowledge and understanding of the negative factors (i.e., chemical and physical (mechanical) conditions) that cause water-leakage cracks, and of the properties of the repair materials and methods. In this study, guidelines and methods for the selection of adequate materials for the repair of water-leakage cracks in concrete structures were developed for countries that do not already have general guidelines on this subject, and for local regulatory authorities elsewhere.

  • A spray-on membrane is a material composed of a polymer, and is a spray-type material that is expected to be able to replace materials such as existing shotcrete or sheet membrane for support or waterproofing purposes. In the previous studies, it is expected that the thickness of the support material such as shotcrete can be reduced if the spray-on membrane is additionally installed on the existing cement-based support materials. In this study, a three-point bending test was performed by a spray-on membrane on the high-performance shotcrete on the outside, and comparison was made between the case where high-performance shotcrete and a spray-on membrane were installed. As a result of comparing the values calculated through the standard test and the real-size bending test, there was no significant difference in terms of flexural strength, but it was found that there was a difference in flexural toughness.

  • An Amur softshell turtle with multiple shell injuries was admitted to the Seoul Wildlife Center on 19 May 2021. The most severe lesion was a puncture wound requiring urgent closure. In addition to routine supportive therapy, the damaged shell was patched with biocompatible polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) materials (bone cement and dental acrylic) and fiberglass. Despite a few methods to repair the carapace or plastron of hard-shelled turtles, shell repair in the Amur softshell turtle has rarely been reported. This paper reports the repair process of a puncture wound in the carapace of a softshell turtle using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). PMMA is a biocompatible acrylic polymer that forms a tight structure that holds the implant against tissue defects, such as skin, bones, and dentures. Fiberglass, a preferred fiber in various medical fields, was used with PMMA to provide extra strength and waterproof capability. After the procedure, there were no signs of edema, inflammation, bleeding, skin discoloration, or any other complications. Accordingly, this can be a method of choice in softshell turtles using biocompatible materials to cover the lesion in the carapace and provide appropriate wound management, supportive therapy, and a suitable course of antibiotics considering all other circumstances.

  • We divided the planting bale into waterproof layer, drainage layer and soil layer so at to investigate changes of live load according to species of wood and composition of the base to make rooftops green. The results are follows, 1. As concerning construction and live load for green roof, sheet waterproofing is superior. 2. When materials of drainage are changed crushed gravel into artificial lightweight graval or ferrite, live load of planting bale is decreased about 22% and 25% in order. 3. When ingredients of soil are chased normal sand into volcanic sand, live load of base is decreased about 28%. Especially, when it is changed into ferrite, 54% of live load is decreased. 4. In this study, all live load we concerned excesses the standard about roof live load of office, school and house. Hence, structure has to be concerned thoroughly when making rooftops green. But, we judge that various methods for making rooftops green can be applied if we consider roof garden when we plan new buildings.
