The purpose of this study is to evaluate the degree of waterbody impairment according to the flow conditions and present to the appropriate water quality improvement alternatives using observed water quality and flow for Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) implementation at 39 unit watersheds the nakdong river basin. Observed water quality data for 7 years are divided into five cumulative flow frequency group and comparing the each observed water quality data and TMDL Target water quality (TWQ) the last evaluate the water quality is impaired group. We found that the cumulative flow frequency group-specific the average excess rate of V group was the highest (32.86%), followed by the IV group (26.04%), group III (23.36%), II group (22.67%), I group (20.70%), the degree of impaired waterbody tended to be inversely proportional to the flow rate. Resulted from cumulative flow frequency group of impaired water quality assessment, 13 unit watersheds are impaired from a group IV and group V affected by point sources. Therefore, improvement of sewage discharge and the initial composition of the riparian buffer zone are needed. Nakbon F, Namkang D and Namkang E within 13 unit watersheds are impaired from group II and III affected by non-point sources. Therefore, application of Best Management Practices (BMPs) is needed for these watersheds. Evaluation of impaired waterbody using Cumulative flow frequency group is able to determine the extent of the judgment to TWQ exceeded by the flow conditions and helps proper setting Standard flow and planning pollutant reduction for TMDL.

The variability of ambient noise with time and water depth is measured in the coastal water of Pusan. The Noise Spectrum levels are relatively high, and have standard deviations amounting to 3 to 4 dB with time and 2 to 3 dB with water depth in the B area of high ship activity. On the other hand, in the A area where shipping is sparse the standard deviations are only 1 to 2 dB with time and water depth respectively. These results show that ship traffic is one of the dominent sources at frequencies greater than 500Hz.
In order to evaluate and predict the environmental impact of the low-trophic-level ecosystem to environmental changes in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, an ecological modelling study was undertaken. Simulation results of average distribution patterns and concentrations of water quality factors during the summer by the model were acceptable. Phytoplankton and remineralization rate of organic matter were very important parameters by a sensitivity analysis. Water quality factors showed high values in the estuary of the Yangtze River and in the West and South Sea of Korea and low values in the central area of the Yellow Sea. There is a plume of high values, especially nutrients, off the mouth of the Yangtze that expands or contracts with changes in the discharge strength. Characteristics of responses of water quality factors vary for different scenarios of environmental change, such as land-based pollution sources and atmospheric forcing. It is suggested that changes of light intensity, discharges of input sources, and wind play an important role in the marine ecosystem.
The water quality from nonpoint source run off results from different land use types has been studied. The construction of a buffer strip is one method of nonpoint source pollutant control. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model has been applied to estimate the pollutant removal through the buffer strip. When the non-business land has been changed into grass to form a buffer-strip, the change of land use effects the results of the model according to measures of the water quality. The data from a water level station within the watershed in the years 2006 and 2007 was used for calibration and validation of the model. Under the rainfall conditions in 2007, the removal rates of SS, BOD, TN, TP were 11.5%, 9.5%, 1.2%, and 4.5%, respectively. During the rainy days, the removal rates at the buffer strip were 92.3% of SS, 91.2% of BOD, 82.4% of TN, and 83.5% of TP. The pollutants from nonpoint sources were effectively removed by over 80% as they passed through the buffer strips. Rainfall resulted in soil erosion, which led to an increase in the SS concentration, therefore, the construction of buffer strips protected the streams from SS inflows. Since TN concentrations are affected by the inflows of ground water and the N concentration of the rainfall, the removal rate of TN was relatively lower than for the other pollutants.
We made simultaneous surveys of 22 GHz water and 44 / 95 GHz methanol masers toward 299 high-mass protostellar objects using the Korea VLBI Network (KVN) 21-m telescope. The sources were selected from the catalog of Red MSX Source (RMS) survey. Initial selection of the sample present high-mass protostellar objects in an evolutionary phase prior to ultra-compact HII regions, which have bolometric luminosities > $10^3L_{\odot}$ but are not associated with any radio continuum emission. After the follow-up work of ongoing RMS survey, final samples contains 56 sources classified as HII regions. We performed a simultaneous survey of 22 GHz water and 44 GHz methanol masers in 2011 and then conducted a simultaneous survey of 22 GHz water and 44 / 95 GHz methanol masers in 2012. The primary scientific goals of these surveys are to investigate the relationship among the three masers and to explore the relationship between each maser and the central star or the parental dense core. The detection rates of two epochs are 42% and 38% for water, 25% and 26% for 44 GHz methanol, and 23% (2012 only) for 95 GHz methanol masers. We performed a statistical analysis on subsample associated with a large data found in literature. In this poster, we will the preliminary data analysis results and discuss the implications.

Groundwater and rainwater are the only sources of freshwater in small islands as many islands lack surface water sources. Groundwater occurring in the form of freshwater lens floating on denser seawater is highly dependent on natural recharge from rainfall. A sharp interface numerical model for regional and well scale modeling is selected to assess the sustainability of freshwater lens in the island of Tongatapu. In this study, 29 downscaled General Circulation Model(GCM) predictions are input to the recharge model based on water balance modelling. Three GCM predictions which represent wet, dry and medium conditions are selected for use in the groundwater flow model. Total freshwater volume and number of saltwater intruded wells are simulated under various climate scenarios with GCM predicted rainfall pattern, sea level rise and pumping. Simulations indicate that the sustainability of the freshwater lens is threatened by the frequent droughts which are predicted under all scenarios of recharge. The natural depletion of the lens during droughts and increase in water demands, leads to saltwater upconing under the pumping wells. Implementation of drought management measures is of utmost importance to ensure sustainability of freshwater lens in future.

At the current of the time, the ecologic stream is the most important concern of all the country. Daejeon metropolitan city performing the plan to secure the Daejeon cheon (stream) instream water as the 1st stage of the ecologic stream development plan for the Daejeon 3 main stream. During the performing the plan to secure the Daejeon cheon (stream) instream water, the water sources are decided to supply from Yudeng cheon and Daecheong Dam by the various water sources evaluation. For the investigation of flow and quality of instream water, I applicate the HEC-RAS and QUAL2EU. Instream water is proposed as the $10{\sim}30cm$ water depth and 2 degree water quality (lower the BOD 2.0 ppm) by the report of city. It is reasonable to the water depth objective, but the water quality objective is not reasonable because of the seasonal quality changes of supplied water. I suggest that the basin management plan include the non-point source elimination must comprised to the Daejeon ecologic stream project.
Despite many efforts to improve water and publicize Arisu, ordinary citizens' distrust in water is still intense. This study aims to analyze how newspapers, television and internet media in Korea covered water-related news, focusing on the type of articles, themes, news sources, and news values. As a result, the mostly mentioned theme in the media was the discussion about suitability of water as a drinking water, followed by impurified water, governmental policy on water, coverage on the water pipe, and result of examination of water quality. Also among newspapers, broadcasting, and the internet, the internet medium showed the most negative tone in covering water. Stories written by journalists with expertise were less than 1% whereas stories by ordinary journalists were mostly found. In conclusion, to cover public issues like water desirably, it is necessary to bring up journalists with expertise in environmental issues, to diversify news sources, and to do investigative reporting rather than reporting appealing to audience's amusement.

Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) system was introduced to manage pollution load of watershed and to improve water quality of unit watershed so that it is possible to protect dringking water soureces. Load allocation observation is the most important factor in TMDLs system. Because if load allocation is not observed, it is difficult to achieve water quality goal of unit watershed. Also it is impossible to improve water quality of the drinking water sources. Therefore it is necessary to apply some kind of sanctions (penalty) in case of excess of load allocation. The sanctions have to be, however, applied differently based on various reduction plan types, i.e., using the reduction load planed in 2nd phase, delay the completion, additional reduction in 2nd phase, error of the pollution sources, etc. Moreover, the penalty load should be properly imposed, lest it should be overburden the provence. The reduction load trade inter province must be restrictively permmitted only the same unit watershed.
This study was conducted to determine the solubility of copper (Cu) in two sources of copper(II) sulfate ($CuSO_4$) including monohydrate and pentahydrate and three sources of dicopper chloride trihydroxide (dCCTH) including ${\alpha}$-form (dCCTH-${\alpha}$), ${\beta}$-form (dCCTH-${\beta}$), and a mixture of ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-form (dCCTH-${\alpha}{\beta}$) at different pH and a 3-step in vitro digestion assay for pigs. In Exp. 1, Cu sources were incubated in water-based buffers at pH 2.0, 3.0, 4.8, and 6.8 for 4 h using a shaking incubator at $39^{\circ}C$. The $CuSO_4$ sources were completely dissolved within 15 min except at pH 6.8. The solubility of Cu in dCCTH-${\alpha}$ was greater (p<0.05) than dCCTH-${\beta}$ but was not different from dCCTH-${\alpha}{\beta}$ during 3-h incubation at pH 2.0 and during 2-h incubation at pH 3.0. At pH 4.8, there were no significant differences in solubility of Cu in dCCTH sources. Copper in dCCTH sources were non-soluble at pH 6.8. In Exp. 2, the solubility of Cu was determined during the 3-step in vitro digestion assay for pigs. All sources of Cu were completely dissolved in step 1 which simulated digestion in the stomach. In Exp. 3, the solubility of Cu in experimental diets including a control diet and diets containing 250 mg/kg of additional Cu from five Cu sources was determined during the in vitro digestion assay. The solubility of Cu in diets containing additional Cu sources were greater (p<0.05) than the control diet in step 1. In conclusion, the solubility of Cu was influenced by pH of digesta but was not different among sources based on the in vitro digestion assay.
