Determining Optimum Pumping Rates of Groundwater in Ttansum Island Related to Riverbank Filtration

  • Riverbank Filtration (RBF) is a kind of indirect artificial recharge method and is useful in obtaining higher-quality source water than surface water when procuring municipal water. This study evaluated optimal riverbank filtered water and the productivity of the radial collector wells on Ttansum Island in the area downstream of the Nakdong River, where Gimhae City is constructing a municipal water plant for the purpose of acquiring high-quality water. The RBF wells are planned to provide water to the citizens of Gimhae City through municipal water works. Groundwater flow modeling was performed with the following four scenarios: (a) 9 radial collector wells, (b) 10 radial collector wells, (c) 10 radial collector wells and two additional vertical wells, and (d) 12 radial collector wells. This study can be useful in determineing the optimum production rate of bank filtrated water not only in this study area but also in other places in Korea.

한국경제의 총요소생산성의 순환성에 관한 실증분석(1975-2010) (The Cyclicality of Productivity, Market Power, and Returns to Scale in the Korean Open Economy: An Empirical Analysis 1975-2010)

  • 생산성의 순환성문제는 거시경제학의 중요한 쟁점들 중의 하나이며 특히 경기변동이론에서 본질적인 개념으로 이해되고 있다. 생산성의 순환성문제에 관한 논의는 1990년대부터 생산성의 경기순행성(procyclicality)을 설명하려는 이론과 실증연구를 통하여 활발하게 진행되어 오고 있다. 솔로우 잔차항(Solow' residual)을 이용한 총요소생산성의 측정방식은 Solow (1957) 이후 다양하게 발전해왔다. 기본적인 솔로우 잔차항에 근거한 총요소생산성의 추정은 세 가지 점을 고려하지 않은 단점을 지니고 있다. 즉 표준적인 솔로우 잔차항에 근거한 총요소생산성은 완전경쟁시장, 규모의 보수불변 그리고 자원 의 완전고용을 전제로 추정되기 때문에 현실적으로 시장지배력(market power), 규모의 보수 증가, 노동과 자본의 유보문제 (labor and capital hoarding)를 고려하지 못하였다. 본 논문은 Hall(1990)과 Basu(1997)의 모형을 개방경제모형으로 확장하여 총요소생산성을 측정하고 한국경제의 생산성의 순응성 문제를 분석하였다. 분석기간은 1975-2010이며 분석되는 산업은 제조업과 전기가스와 운수통신의 서비스 산업이다. 분석결과, 요소이용률을 고려하고 원유수입물가지수를 도구변수로 사용한 2단계최소자승법에 의해서 추정된 총요소생산성은 제조산업과 전기가스에서 경기순행성(procyclicality)을 나타내고 있으며 요소이용율을 적용하는 경우, 경기순응적인 요소보다 경기역행적인 요소가 제거되었음을 밝히고 있다.

인공위성 영상자료를 이용한 남한지역 수분이용효율 지도 작성 (Mapping of Water Use Efficiency Using Satellite Imageries in South Korea)

  • 단위면적당 증발산량 중 일부가 식생의 물질 생산에 이용될 수 있는지를 나타내는 지표인 수분 이용효율 (Water Use Efficiency, WUE)은 총 일차생산성(Gross Primary Productivity, GPP)과 단위면적당 증발산량(Evapotranspiration, ET)의 비로 산출된다. 이전 연구들에서의 수분 이용효율의 적용은 수분 스트레스에 대한 작물의 생산성 차이 분석과 같은 작물학과 농림학 분야의 연구들이 대부분이었지만. 기후 변화가 생태계 생산성 또는 에너지 수지에 영향을 미치는 등의 전 지구적 규모의 수문학적 연구에도 적용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) 영상자료에서 1km 해상도로 8일 단위의 총 일차생산성과 증발산량을 산정함으로써 수분 이용효율을 구하였다. 향후에는 산정된 이 지표를 남한지역에 적용하여 수분 이용효율에 대한 지도를 작성하고, 실측된 총 일차생산량과 증발산 값을 이용하여 검증한 후 알고리즘을 개선해 나갈 계획이다.

기후 및 토지 피복에 따른 한반도 지역의 수분 이용효율 (Climate and Land Cover Controls over MODIS-derived Water Use Efficiency in a Korean Peninsula)

  • 수분 이용효율(Water Use Efficiency, WUE)은 식생이 흡수한 수분 중 증발산에 이용한 비율로, 육상생태계의 수문학적 순환 및 탄소 순환의 기능을 측정할 수 있는 중요한 지표이다. 또한 이는 특정 지역의 기후 조건이나 토지 피복과 같은 다양한 요인에 따라 변할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 한반도에서 2010년부터 2014년까지의 기후 요인(강수, 기온)과 토지 피복에 따른 WUE의 변화를 살펴본다. MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) 기반 총일차생산성(Gross Primary Productivity, GPP), 증발산량(Evapotranspiration, ET), 잎면적지수(Leaf Area Index, LAI)와 Willmot의 기상자료 등 대상지역에 대한 격자 자료를 사용한다. 구체적으로 숲, 초원, 농지와 같이 다양한 토지 피복 조건에 대한 월간 및 연간 WUE(=GPP/ET)를 산정하고, 이의 LAI나 기후 조건(강수, 기온)과의 관계를 분석하고자 상관성 및 요인 분석을 진행한다. 기후 조건 및 토지 피복 조건을 고려한 15년간 한반도에서의 WUE의 변화에 대한 분석은 앞으로의 수자원 관리 및 산림 정책에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Comparative study on the efficiency of pesticide residue removal in foods (Perilla Leaves, Strawberries, Apples)

  • In agricultural households cultivating vegetables and fruits, the use of various pesticides to protect crops from diseases and pests or to control weeds is widely practiced enhancing quality and productivity. However, pesticides can pose a threat to consumer health by remaining on the food surface or migrating into the food interior. Households commonly peel off skins, wash with water, or use chemical methods to remove foreign substances including residual pesticides on the food surface. In this study, we measured the washing rate by comparing the pesticide concentrations before and after washing in the leafy vegetable perilla leaves and the fruits strawberries and apples, which were intentionally exposed to pesticides. We compared washing rates using tap water, a baking soda solution, and a commercially available food-specific cleaning solution. The target pesticides for analysis were azoxystrobin, bifenthrin, boscalid, difenoconazole, flubendiamide, and indoxacarb, and the residual pesticide analysis was performed using GC-MS/MS or LC-MS/MS. The removal rates of pesticides were highest with the food-specific cleaner, followed by baking soda and tap water in order.

잣나무림(林)의 물질생산력(物質生産力)에 관(関)한 연구(硏究) (I) 엽(葉)의 광합성속도(光合成速度)와 호흡속도(呼吸速度)에 미치는 광(光)․온도(溫度)․수분(水分)의 영향(影響) (Studies on the Productivity of Korean White Pine Forest (I) Effects of Temperature, Light and Water Stress on Photosynthesis and Dark Respiration Rates of Leaves)

  • 본 연구(硏究)는 잣나무림(林)의 일차(一次) 생산력(生産力)을 알기위한 것으로, 엽(葉)의 온도(溫度) 광도(光度) 수분결핍(水分缺乏) 등이 광합성속도(光合成速度)및 호흡속도(呼吸速度)에 미치는 영향(影響)을 측정(測定) 보고(報告)한다. 1) 광포화(光飽和)는 40Klwx 전후에서 일어나며 광보상점(光補償点)은 l.0~1.3Klwx 임을 알았다. 2) 당년엽(當年葉)의 광합성(光合成) 속도(速度)가 가장 높고 엽령(葉令)이 증가함에 따라 감소(減少)했다. 3) 온도반응(溫度反應)에 따른 호흡속도(呼吸速度)는 2월엽(月葉)이 8월엽(月葉)보다 2배(倍)정도 높았고, 양자(兩者) 모두 $17^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 심한 감소(減少)를 보였다. 4) 광합성(光合成) 속도(速度)는 약 -10bar에서 감소(減少)가 시작되며 약 -24bar에서 0으로 되었다. 호흡속도(呼吸速度)는 약 -5 bar에서 감소(減少)가 시작 -24bar에서 43% 정도 감소했다. 5) 광합성(光合成)에 관한 최적온도(最適溫度)는 8월 엽(葉)에서 $23{\sim}26^{\circ}C$, 2월엽(月葉)에서 $15{\sim}18^{\circ}C$를 나타냈다.

퇴적물 토양의 영양염류가 호소 수질에 미치는 잠재 요인 분석 (Analysis of Sediment Nutrients as Potential Sources of the Lake Water Quality)

  • The characteristics of Lake Cheonhoji water and sediment were investigated in oder to utilize these as fundamental materials for the management of lake water quality. The hydrographic properties of Lake Cheonhoji which are relatively low chance of nutrients loading from the watershed and a long retention time of lake water, lead to the probability of high lake productivity. It was also observed that lake water showed stratification during summer and complete mixing during fall, even though water depth was relatively shallow. The trophic state was eutrophic to hypertrophic from summer to late fall. The overall properties of the sediment were oligohumic, high ignition loss and high composition of NAIP and Resid.-P, which might serve as potential pollution sources of lake water quality. In laboratory scale experiments, it was observed that leaching potential of nutrients in the sediment was greatly dependant upon water temperature and dissolved oxygen. Finally, water pollution in Lake Cheonhoji was considered to be largely due to the adverse cycle of uncontrollable eutrophication, which resulted in the subsequent occurrence of dead algae and animal plankton, organic sedimentation, reduction of dissolved oxygen and nutrients leaching, which again reinforced the cycle of eutrophication in the lake.

횡성호의 유기물 수지 및 거동 특성 (Organic Matters Budget and Movement Characteristic in Lake Hoengseong)

  • Organic matters budget in Lake Hoengseong were monthly investigated from April 2009 to November 2009. The intense rainfall occurred at between July and August and the hydrological factors were highly varied during the rainfall season. By the concentrated rainfall, the elevation, influx and efflux were sharply increased and the turbid water was also flowed into the middle water column in Lake. The inflow of turbid water increased the nutrient concentrations in water body and this appears to stimulate of phytoplankton regard as the primary productivity of influx of organic matter. Monthly average concentration of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was generally higher than the particulate organic carbon (POC) concentration in Lake, but Temporal and spatial variation of POC concentration was higher than DOC and the maximum POC concentration was recorded in surface water in August, had the highest phytoplankton biomass. Organic carbon concentration in inflow site was rarely changed during the dry season, but the concentration was rapidly increased by the initial intense rainfall. In organic matters budget, the most of the organic matters was inflowed from the inflow site at rainfall season. Especially, the influx of allochthonous organic matters during the intense rainfall was 72.4% in the total influx organic matters.

Effects of Exercise and Intermittent Watering on the Water and Feed Intake of Sheep

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the water requirement of exercising sheep. Nine Merino ewes were allocated into three groups differing in water supply after exercise, group 1(G1) supplied water ad libitum, group 2 (G2) supplied with water twice a day, and group 3 (G3) supplied with water once a day. The ewes were exercised outdoors using a circular exercising machine at a speed of 5 km/h for 1 hour for 12 consecutive days. Total daily water intake (TDWI) of animals in G3 was significantly lower (p < 0.05) than that of those in G1 and G2. TDWI of the 2 later groups was not different. TDWI of G3 was about 60% of that of G1. Feed intake of G3 was significantly (p < 0.05) lower than that of the other two groups. Immediately after exercise, rectal temperature (RT) of animals in G1 was significantly (p < 0.05) lower than those in the other groups. Respiration rate (RR) of animals in all three groups was not significantly different. Faecal moisture of animals in G3 was significantly lower (p < 0.05) than those in the other groups. The results indicate that for optimum productivity sheep should be given water at least twice a day.

부레옥잠을 이용한 Clostridium beijerinckii의 Biobutanol 생산 (Production of Biobutanol by Clostridium beijerinckii from Water Hyacinth)

  • Biofuel has been considered as promising renewable energy to solve various problems that result from increasing usage of fossil fuels since the early 20th century. In terms of chemical and physical properties as fuel, biobutanol has more merits than bioethanol. It could replace gasoline for transportation and industrial demand is increasing significantly. Production of butanol can be achieved by chemical synthesis or by microbial fermentation. The water hyacinth, an aquatic macrophyte, originated from tropical South America but is currently distributed all over the world. Water hyacinth has excellent water purification capacity and it can be utilized as animal feed, organic fertilizer, and biomass feedstock. However, it can cause problems in the rivers and lakes due to its rapid growth and dense mats formation. In this study, the potential of water hyacinth was evaluated as a lignocellulosic biomass feedstock in biobutanol fermentation by using Clostridium beijerinckii. Water hyacinth was converted to water hyacinth hydrolysate medium through pretreatment and saccharification. It was found that productivity of water hyacinth hydrolysate medium on biobutanol production was comparable to general medium.
