  • Recently due to repeatedly occurrence of flood, a lot of Chinese cities accept new design criteria for their protective project Most of them calculated by a certain type of probability distribution. In order to meet the demand of development economy the return period of design criteria is changed more longer and longer even 1000years, but the data which the calculation dependent on is only about 30-40 years.

  • Waveheight attenuation efficiencies of floating breakwaters in water of finite depth for a VLFS are studied numerically in accordance with the two body radiation-diffraction problem. Four different forms of the breaker are tested with a solid VLFS. The radiation-diffraction wave elevations between the breakwater and the VLFS are predicted directly instead of the far-field transmission-reflection coefficients of the breakwater.

  • Since bed elevation changes are mainly dependent on the flow velocity and corresponding shear stress, it is possible to predict bed elevation numerically using velocity components. For the scour analysis due to channel contraction, a bed load transport model is developed and applied to estimate scour depth around coffer dam in the Mississippi River. During Phase I of the Lock & Dam No. 26 replacement project, a coffer dam was constructed to reduce the flow area approximately by 50%. Flow velocity increases due to the flow area reduction yields significant lowering (erosion) of the channel bed elevation. The proposed numerical model solves the sediment continuity equation using the finite element method to evaluate scour process in the vicinity of the coffer dam

  • This study is to develop a distributed urban flood runoff model that simulates the road runoff and to test the applicability of the model by applying to Pyeongtaek city of $12.2km^2$. To generate the runoff along the runoff, agree burned DEM (Digital Elevation Model) with road networks was suggested and the proper spatial resolution of DEM was identified finer than 15 m. To test the model applicability, 32 points on the road networks were selected and the hydrographs of each point were generated. The test showed reasonable results that increase the road runoff from the high elevation roads to the low elevation roads and the road runoff considering rainwater drainage from the road also showed reasonable results.

  • A system was developed to size flood detention storages at the planned Dangjin residing district. Components of system is consisted of module for deriving relationship between elevation and storage, module for calculating sediment elevation, module for setting outflow sizes and elevations, module for reservoir flood routing, and module for ascertaining sizes of detention facilities. And a system was constructed with Visual Basic 6.0. Using this system, sizes of flood detentions are able to be determined very easily and rapidly only by pushing command buttons and by viewing results.

  • The statatistical characteristics and spectra of sea waves at Mookho were analysed by several statistical methods. As the results, the following conclusions are obtained: 1. Values of surface elevation of sea wave are better fitted to Gram Charlier distribution than Gaussian distribution. This proves that sea waves have not only characters of irregularity but also non-linearity. 2. Distribution of maxima of surface elevation practically follows the distribution of Cartwright and Longuet-Higgins, also spectral width parameter is found to be increased with the increase of root mean square of surface elevation. 3. Sea wave may have spectrum of broad frequency band, however distributions of wave heights and periods follow the Rayleigh distribution which is derived from the assumption of narrow frequency band. 4. Ratios among mean wave heights from observed data show good agreements with theoretical values from Rayleigh distribution. 5. Spectral density and spectral width parameter increase with increase of wind velocity. And wave period at optimum band gas higher value than significant wave period by about 10 percent.
