In recent year, it has been investigated on the reduction of mass of structures for the purpose of the larger space and the economy with the industry developing very fast and qualitatively. So the purpose of this study is to investigate the manufacture of light weight concrete panel using the artificial light-weight aggregate as a part of the substitution of foamed styrene and polyurethane because of narrow allocable temperature zone in use. The compressive strength, flexural strength, unit weight, absorption test and thermal conductivity were practised at 3, 7 and 28 days after manufacturing the light-weight concrete lot the panel core: the filling ratio of continuous void was defied as 40%, 50%, and 60% and water-cement rate was 35, 40 and 45%. As a result of this, it was revealed that the mixture derived from filling ration of void of 50% and water-cement ratio 40% were developing the best properties of the others.

We developed eco-friendly lightweight concrete in order to apply eco-friendly lightweight concrete into structural wall or slab of shallow depth urban railway system. However, since lightweight aggregate has different structural feature of porous and it has been overvalued at current KS standard when applied, we did compare the characteristics of freezing and thawing of normal weight aggregate concrete by comparative test method(KS, ASTM). According to test method, there was a big difference of dynamic elastic modulus in lightweight concrete rather than in normal weight aggregate concrete. The big absorption factor in lightweight aggregate is main reason for that. For more detail, in KS law in which only 14 days water curing is carried out, the big amount of moisture in lightweight aggregate is frozen and high heaving pressure occurs and finally that lead to destruction of lightweight concrete. Therefore, it is considered that in case of lightweight concrete, resistibility against freezing and thawing has been undervalued in domestic KS law compared to ASTM law, which is overseas standard. So, a variety of examination about testing criteria and rule would be necessary for exact assessment of lightweight concrete.

Under the paradigm of sustainable green growth at the national level, various researches and applications for energy saving in the construction field has been attempted. As a part of energy saving efforts, lightweight concrete was investigated for thermal insulation concrete with phase change material (PCM) which has high heat storage capacity. As a part of energy saving efforts, thermal insulation concrete was investigated and evaluated with lightweight aggregate impregnated by PCM which has high heat storage capacity. As a result, it is found that concrete with lightweight aggregate impregnated by PCM is effective to prevent its quality deterioration by reducing water absorption rate of lightweight aggregate. In addition, it has shown that concretes using lightweight aggregate and impregnated lightweight aggregate improve heat insulation property 33% and 40~43% compared with using normal aggregate, respectively. It is that the lightweight aggregate concrete with impregnated lightweight aggregate has 12~14% lower thermal conductivity than unimpregnated.
Natural aggregate regular exploitation has led to environmental and resource depletion issues; consequently, construction waste has become an important raw material in the supply of aggregate smoothly. The recycled aggregate produced in the most of recycled aggregate processing company in Korea has a high adhesion ratio of cement paste and mortar, which affects the water absorption ratio and density. Therefore, the quality of recycled aggregate needs to be improved. In this study, we improved the quality of recycled aggregate through the use of a multistage separation ball mill. This ball mill has a sieve which protects the ball mix and improves the motion. Products produced by using multistage separation ball mill were compared with various quality standard for utilization as recycle aggregate. Finally, we confirmed that the multistage separation ball mill can efficiently separate cement paste and mortar from natural aggregate and that it is suitable for the production of recycled aggregates.

Ultra-high strength concrete becomes one of the main research areas because recently concrete structure is larger. The quality of aggregate (ultra-high strength and uniformity) as well as chemical admixture and mineral additives is a key factor for ultra-high strength concrete development. However, natural aggregate including crushed aggregate is inappropriate for ultra-high strength concrete because ultra-high strength quality cannot be maintained uniformly over whole natural aggregate lot. In this study ceramic aggregate was applied for ultra-high strength concrete in order to assure uniform quality of ultra-high strength aggregate. Ultra-high strength concrete was achieved by applying coated ultra-high strength ceramic aggregate to enhance the bonding strength between aggregate and cement paste. Also for actual application light weight ceramic aggregate(density 2.2 $g/cm^3$) with zero water absorption was tested.

This study was performed to evaluate the strength and durability properties of recycled concrete containing water - redispersible copolymer powder(WRP) and blast furnace slag powder(BSP) [RCWS]. Material used were cemente, recycled coarse aggregare, natural fine aggregate, water-redispersible copolymer powder, blast-furnace slag powder. Especially, Water-redispersible powder was used for blending with Inorganic binders such as cemente, gypsum and hydrated lime etc. First of all, Mixed ratio method of RCWS made Two Type. One was called type-1 which used to BSP content 5% and WRP(Water-redispersible powder) content 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%. respectively. Another was called Type-2 which used to BSP(blast furnace slag powder)content 10% and WRP(Water-redispersible powder) content 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%. respectively. According to the experimental results of (RCWS), Incase Type-2 at curing age 28days, Compressive strength, pulse velocity and dynamic modulous of elasticity were shown higher than Type-1 and The more WRP content increasing($0%{\sim}6%$) was the lower Compressive strength, Pulse velocity and Dynamic modulous of elasticity. Water absorption ratio was in the range of $3.85%\;{\sim}\;3.23%$, it was almost equal to Type-1, 2 but Increasing the WRP content($0%{\sim}6%$), The water absorption ratio is decreased.
The purpose of this study was to manufacture sintered lightweight aggregate using paper sludge ash and to evaluate the qualities of the aggregate according to various mix proportions, conditions of pelletization and sintering. The paper sludge ash alone, due to its mineral and chemical compositions could not gain suitable expansion and strength. Hence, it was essential to add mineral additives such as clay, fly ash etc. The optimum muting ratio range determined in this study is as follows , paper sludge ash 30∼50 %, clay 30∼50 %, fay ash 0∼40 %, Paper sludge 0∼10% and hematite 2∼3 %(for manufacturing lightweight aggregate both for non-structural and structural concrete). It was possible to manufacture various lightweight aggregate whose dry specific gravity ranged about from 0.6 to 1.4 by using this optimum mixing ratio. From the test results of the qualities of aggregate, it showed that the 10% granules crushing value test and water absorption percentage ranged about 5∼10 ton and 10∼20%. Thus, it was favorably comparable to those of the imported aggregate. The manufactured lightweight aggregate could be used for structural concrete and non-structural concrete.
Recently, the amount of disposed construction materials like demolished concrete is growing fast and the shortage of natural concrete aggregates is becoming serious. Therefore, recycling of aggregates extracted from the demolished concrete is getting important and use of the recycled aggregates for concrete has been seriously considered. However, the use of the recycled aggregates even for low performance concretes is very limited because there are few rational standard evaluation criteria for recycled aggregates which should be different from that for natural aggregates. In this study, rational evaluation criteria for the recycled aggregates are proposed for their use as concrete aggregates. The study also shows that the performance for both the recycled aggregates and the recycled concrete manufactured with the recycled aggregates can be evaluated effectively according to water absorption ratio of recycled aggregates.
The use of lightweight aggregate (LWA) instead of ordinary aggregate may make lightweight aggregate concrete, which possesses many advantages such as lightweight, lower thermal conductivity, and better fire and seismic resistance. Recently the developments of LWA have been focused on using industrial wastes as raw materials to reduce the use of limited natural resources. In view of this, the intent of this study was to apply Taguchi optimization technique in determining process condition for producing synthetic LWA by incorporating waste thin film transition liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCD) glass powder with reservoir sediments. In the study the waste TFT-LCD glass cullet was used as an additive. It was incorporated with reservoir sediments to produce LWA. Taguchi method with an orthogonal array L16(45) and five controllable 4-level factors (i.e., cullet content, preheat temperature, preheat time, sintering temperature, and sintering time) was adopted. Then, in order to optimize the selected parameters, the analysis of variance method was used to explore the effects of the experimental factors on the performances (particle density, water absorption, bloating ratio, and loss of ignition) of the produced LWA. The results showed that it is possible to produce high performance LWA by incorporating waste TFT-LCD glass cullet with reservoir sediments. Moreover, Taguchi method is a promising approach for optimizing process condition of synthetic LWA using recycled glass cullet and reservoir sediments and it significantly reduces the number of tests.

Slag and ash generally have a higher powder degree than portland cement, so workability may deteriorate under the same unit quantity condition, and strength and durability decrease when the unit quantity is increased. At this time, if an aggregate having a low water absorption and an appropriate particle size is used to recover the loss of strength, it can contribute to reducing the unit quantity of the binder. Therefore, for the purpose of improving the workability and strength of non-sintered cement mortar using slag and ash, ferro nikel slag whose particle size was adjusted was used as an aggregate and its applicability was identified. In this experimental condition, it was confirmed that non-sintered cement mortar tends to improve workability and secure strength when ferro nikel slag having various particle size distributions is used as an aggregate. This can be analyzed as the effect of ferro nikel slag material properties including glassy properties and mixing conditions with a wide particle size distribution.
