The paper aims to characterise the waste generated in municipality of Varanasi, the most populated city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. MSW is a heterogeneous waste and composition of the waste varied from season to season. The generation, collection and management of waste have become a major environmental problem in most of the developing cities. MSW was collected from open dumping grounds for 2 consecutive years. Each year was classified into 3 seasons of 4 months. On analysis it was found that the biodegradable fraction is always more than other fractions with a minimum of 48.25% in rainy season. With such a high fraction of biodegradable wastes, options such as composting and biomethanation could be tried to convert waste into energy. The average weight of waste generation at present is 0.460 kg per capita per day. The study showed that waste generation and collection were increasing every year, which may be attributed to increase in population.
To establish a radioactive waste life cycle history management system, a series of processes including waste generation, classification, packaging, storage, transportation, and disposal were reflected in the information management system. A preliminary review process was introduced to reduce the amount of radioactive waste generated and manage it efficiently. Through this, the amount of radioactive waste generated must be checked from the beginning of the research, and the generated radioactive waste must be thoroughly managed from the stage of generation to final disposal. In particular, in the case of radioactive waste data generated during nuclear facility operation and each experiment, a radioactive waste information management system must be operated to receive information from the waste generator and integrate it with processing information at the management stage. The application process for small-package containers was reflected so that information such as the generation facility of radioactive waste, generation facility, project information, types of radioactive waste, major radionuclides, etc. In the radioactive waste management process, the preceding steps are to receive waste history from the waste generators. This includes an application for a specified container with a QR label, pre-inspection, and management request. Next, the succeeding steps consist of repackaging, treatment, characterization, and evaluating the suitability of disposal, for a process to transparently manage radioactive wastes.
In order to evaluate and finally optimize the vitrification condition for combustible dry active waste (DAW), dust and gas generation characteristics were investigated for PE, cellulose, and mixed waste Tests were conducted by varying the operation variables such as melter configuration, excess oxygen amount, and waste feeding rate. Results showed that dust generation characteristics were affected by the operation parameters and the melter's configuration is the dominant one. For all tested DAWs, dust generation was reduced by increasing the waste feeding rate and the excessive oxygen amount in the melter. Among waste types, dust amount was decreased by the order of mixed wastes, PE, and cellulose. Other parameters such as temperature variation and operation time have also affected the dust generation. The optimum condition for the DAW vitrification was determined as the melter's configuration equipped for minimizing the waste dispersion with 20 kg/h of waste feeding rate and 100% of excessive oxygen supply. CO gas concentration in the off-gas was immediately influenced by the combustion state in the melter, but showed similar trend as the dust generation. For the NOx production during the vitrification process, thermal NOx, which is generated from the Post Combustion Chamber (PCC), rather than fuel NOx was assumed to be dominant. The gas cleaning of efficiencies of the PCC, wet scrubber, and Selective Catalytic Reduction system (SCR) were found to be high enough to keep the concentration of pollutants (CO, NOx, SOx, HCI) in the stack below their relevant emission limits.

About 70% of energy input to internal combustion engine is rejected to atmosphere by heat. By utilizing this waste heat, a plenty of energy can be conserved in nationwide. One of possible ways is the thermoelectric generation to utilize engine's waste heat to provide auxiliary electric power. Under th is concept, we have been developing the thermoelectric generation system to replace the alternator by converting the waste heat in the engine's exhaust directly to electricity This system may reduce the shaft horse power of the engine, then improves the vehicle fuel economy and the exhaust emissions. In the present study, the characteristics of the electric energy and exhaust heal energy in city and highway mode driving conditions are analysed by using a gasoline passenger car. These results would be used to determine the optimum design parameters of the thermoelectric generation system.

This study was carried out to investigate the typical composition of food waste from municipal solid wastes (MSW) and unit food waste generation rates from different sources in the model cities and to study the food waste management system from unit household to composting facilities. The annual average food waste composition of MSW was determined as 49% in Taejon and 52% in Chungnam Province, respectively. No big difference in food waste composition was found among the different sources. Since the paper waste generally occupied the half of food waste, over 75% of MSW was found to be compostable or biodegradable. Per capita food waste generation rate, 200~250g/capita day was determined by the direct measurement from 32 households, while 380g/capita day for Chungnam Province and 400 g/capita day for Taejon were estimated by the load count analysis In the sanitary landfills. This difference means people contribute generating food waste at outside house approximately twice as much as that at inside house. Per capita food waste generation rates from several sources were determined as follows; 166~215g/capita day at municipalities, 400g/visitor day at a first class hotel, 170g/student day at a university restaurant. Food waste generation from restaurant was strongly dependant upon it's level or quality; 670g/capita day at the high level restaurant, 190g/capita day at the middle class and 60 g/capita day at the lower class restaurant. The food waste reduction rate in a In situ fermentor showed 30~40g/kg day.

In order to establish active and effective recycling plans on construction wastes, the study seeks to built unit generation data per construction waste types on each sector, prepare units data on urban construction waste generation and serve as meaningful data on the establishment of policies on construction waste recycling targeting urban regions. The significance of the study is on the establishment of construction waste recycling plan prior to generation, not as complementary measures on construction waste generated.
Simultaneous treatment of food waste leachate and power generation was investigated in an air-cathode microbial fuel cell. A TCOD removal efficiency of $95.4{\pm}0.3%$ was achieved for an initial COD concentration of 2,860 mg/L. Maximum power density ranged was maximized at $1.86W/m^3$, when COD concentration varied between 60 mg/L and 2,860 mg/L. Meanwhile, columbic efficiency was determined between 1.76% and 11.07% for different COD concentrations. Cyclic voltammetric data revealed that the oxidation peak voltage occurred at -0.20 V, shifted to about -0.25 V. Moreover, a reduction peak voltage at -0.45 V appeared when organic matters were exhausted, indicating that reducible matters were produced during the decomposition of organic matters. The results showed that it was feasible to use food waste leachate as a fuel for power generation in a microbial fuel cell, and the treatment efficiency of the wastewater was satisfied.

Construction waste takes about 50% of total industrial waste. Researchers focuses to decrease the amount of construction waste by recycling the waste during the construction site. However, research about recycling the gelatin-sand composite is not yet been studied. This research is an experimental research on recycling the total specimen of gelatin-sand composite. Two methods were held when making the 2nd generation of the gelatin-sand specimen. As a result, there was no difference in flexural strenght between two different method of 2nd generation of specimen. However, the second method of 2nd generation showed about 20% higher compressive strength than the first method.

With rising food waste, the management activities have gained growing attention, and the disposal options, particularly utilization of food waste for energy recovery, become central. This research examines the factors affecting food waste generation and the tendency to resource food waste. The self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted in newly built multifamily housing estates to collect data, and 300 responses were analyzed. The statistical analysis showed that most of the respondents purchased food materials in largely franchised grocery stores and discarded food that had been too long refrigerated to edible. The lifecycle of food consumption was divided into three states - food purchase plan, cooking and food waste collection. Regression analysis was employed to find out the relationships between three stages and food waste generation or tendency to resource food waste. The results described that food waste generation being affected by the stage of food purchase plan (food waste removal conditions) was statistically significant while it's statistically significant that the stage of cooking (prepurchase considerations) influenced the attitude toward food waste resource. The research findings indicated that food is overconsumed, and further many viewed food waste resources as a proactive and integrative mode in the global wave of sustainability.
The present problems concerning the control of generation, storage, collection, transfer and transport, processing and disposal of the municipal waste are serious. And the transportation of the municipal waste is recently a important part of solid waste treatment and disposal. The waste pneumatic transportation system is expected to be an effective method for use in solving that problems. In this study, pneumatic transportation system was applied to 2,000-5,000 households of public/group housing for economic and technical analysis on the basis of data for working and operation. The proper equipment must be selected through economic and technical analysis for generation and properties of waste because the equipment in facilities of system is various. And the efficient operation method should be studied on the basis of information on the record of oeration. As the wet food waste clogs the pipeline, it is necessary to examine under the actual condition. The maximum unit waste generation rate based on the assumption that each household is comprised of 3.20 people is determined $2,340g/household{\cdot}day$, and it is included the 50% increase of seasonal and daily change.
