PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) deposited in soil are one of serious problems against sustainable land use. In this paper, chemical soil flushing in a packed sandy soil matrix using a natural surfactant, $\beta$-cyclodextrin (CD) was studied via a fluorescence spectroscopy and a dye labelling. The contaminants are lipophilic ring compounds- phenanthrene and naphthalene. Sand type and flushing intensity (rate and concentration) are chosen as important investigation variables. The removal efficiencies were proportional to flow rate, concentration, temperature of the flushing solution and voidity of the sand column. Initial sorption of the surfactant onto the soil matrix was found to be a key step while flow shear was more crucial in the latter steps. The residual portion of the surfactant, which was most likely to be due to the initial sorption, would not be so influential on this type of soil washing for long times. These results will be useful in future for pilot scale in situ washing and for establishing better soil washing strategy.
In this research, the curly dock was used in the process of dyeing for fabrics of the inner wear & the patient wear. Since the curly dock has a pharmacological effect on dermatosis, this study focused on the variety of color and functions of the inner wear fabrics & patient wear fabrics to make the best use of the pharmacological effect of curly dock. With regards to giving a variety of colors and functions in the inner wear, patient wear fabrics, the curly dock dye was used in each treatment conditions on the cotton & silk fabrics. After dyeing, the dyeability, color change, light fastness, washing fastness, perspiration fastness, antibiosis, far infrared emissivity and emission power were evaluated. The evaluation results are as follows; The dyeablity increased from repeated dyeing and, by using the mordant, variety of colors such as skin, mustard, greyish-brown and dark earth colors were conformed to the naked eye. Fe mordant was better than Al on the lightfastness and the washing fastness. The repeated dyeing was found out to have less effect on neither lightfastness nor washing fastness. Both silk and cotton fabrics were graded $3{\sim}4$, since their degree of degradation appeared to be the same in alkali perspiration and acidic perspiration. In the case of silk fabrics mordanted by Al, the rate of declining in both Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 4352 were 99.9%. In addition, the antibiosis was enhanced when the mordant was used. The far infrared was 86.6% of emissivity, $3.34{\times}10^2\;W/m^2{\cdot}{\mu}m$ emission power.

It was investigated the effects of pre-treatment method on the microbes on the surface of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) leaves. Independent variables put in water washing ($X_1$), microwave treatment ($X_2$) and steam treatment ($X_3$) using central composite design and response surface analysis. It was not detected in the pathogenic microbes, Samonella spp., Camphylobacter spp., Vibrio spp., Shigella spp., Staphyloccocus spp., on the surface of collected radish leaves without pre-treatment. But general microbes showed $3.90{\times}10^5{\sim}1.20{\times}10^7CFU/g$ of total microbes, $1.10{\times}10^2{\sim}2.00{\times}10^5CFU/g$ of E. coli, $2.40{\times}10^3{\sim}3.55{\times}10^6CFU/g$ of yeast/mold on the surface of various radish leaves and lactic acid bacteria was detected or not according to collected samples. The best method of pre-treatment was steam treatment on the microbe reduction effect of samples surface. Also, the multiplex regression coefficients analysis was calculated three independent variables ($X_1,\;X_2,\;X_3$) and dependent variables (total microbes, lactic acid bacteria and yeast/molds). It showed high correlation $R^2$, 0.89, 0.87, 0.85, respectively. For effective reduction of surface microbes, the best method was water washing with microwave or steam treatment at the same time.

Three different methods (simple washing of plastic and pulp sample, washing after direct heating of the diapers, and the heating after washing of plastic and pulp sample) were carried out to decrease total coliforms and heterotrophic plate count (HPC) in the diaper's plastic and pulp. Plastic and pulp samples were obtained from diaper by treatment with 10% $CaCl_2$ and 4% sea salt water, dilution with 1,000 ml tap water, and draining by using sieves. Three times washing was the most appropriate for the reduction of microorganisms in plastic and pulp. By three times washing, the number of total coliforms in the plastic and pulp samples showed 92.8% and 99.8% of decrease, respectively, and the number of HPC showed 97.3% of decrease in the plastic and 98.5% of decrease in the pulp. The washing after direct heating of the fecal contaminated diapers was not effective because HPC in the plastic and pulp samples were still detected about 2-3 log CFU/g in the plastic and 1-2 log CFU/g in the pulp, respectively, even after heating at $60^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$, $100^{\circ}C$ for 12 h. Meanwhile, total coliforms and HPC were completely sterilized at $80^{\circ}C$ for 4 h by heating after washing of plastic and pulp samples, suggesting that this method was the most appropriate method for the reduction of microorganisms in plastic and pulp obtained from fecal contaminated diapers.
The aim of present study in vitro was to evaluate and compare the effects of different washing times of enamels etched with low phosphoric acid solution which makes unsoluble salts and etched but contaminated with saliva on shear bond strength of an orthodontic adhesive to enamel, and to observe the washing effect on the etched enamel surface by scanning electron microscope. All brackets were bonded with Mono-$Lok2^{TM)}$) on the labial surface of extracted human bicuspids after etching with $20w/w\%\;and\;37w/w$ and phosphoric acid solution for 60seconds and then washing for 0,5,10 and 20seconds respectedly. After etching with $37w/w\%$ phosphoric acid solution and contaminating with saliva for 30seconds and then washing for 0,5,20 and 30seconds and re-etching for 10seconds. After 24hours passed in the $37^{\circ}C$ water bath, the shear bond strengths were measured on Universal Test Machine. The data were evaluated and tested by ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test, and those results were as follows. 1. There was no significant differences between (p>0.05) shear bond strength of bonded brackets with 5, 10, 20seconds washing etched enamel using $37{\%}w/w{\%}$ phosphoric acid solution. 2. The shear bond strength of bonded brackets with $20w/w\%$ phosphoric acid and then washing for 5seconds showed bonded strength durable to occlusal force but its coefficiency score was high and etched surface was not cleaned completely and therefore it was assumed that its clinical application is not applicable. 3. There was no significant differences between (p>0.05) shear bond strengths of bonded brckets with washing for 5seconds etched enamel using $37w/w\%$ phosphoric acid solution and 10,20 seconds washing etched enamel using $20w/w\%$ phosphoric acid solution. 4. The shear bond strength of washing for 5seconds etched enamel which was contaminated with saliva showed sufficient bonded strength durable to occlusal force but its coefficiency score was high and therefore its clinical application was not applicable. 5. After etching, the sample contaminated with saliva showed the sufficient shear bond strength even washing 20seconds without re-etching.
This experiment was carried out to evaluate the sanitary quality of cultured vegetables and to check the removing rate of bacteria by treating methods such as washing with tap water or commercial detergent, or blanching. Samples collected from farm land located at Busan suburbs and markets were Fragaria chiloensis var. ananasa, Lycopersicum esculentum, Capsium longum, Cucumis sativus, Lactuca scariola var. sativa leaf of Perilla frutescens var, japonica, Oananthe stolonifera and Allium odoium. Fecal coliform MPN was ra god from less than 30 to 430,000 per 100 grams of samples examined while plate count was $7.2\times10^3\;to\;2.2\times10^7$ per gram. Usually contamination rate of fecal coliform of leaf vegetal)les was much higher than that of fruit vegetables. Removing rate of bacterial density of vegetables by washing three times with tap water was about $70\%$ in fruit vegetables, about $20\%$ in leaf vegetables but it was about $80\%$ in leaf vegetables by washing with a commercial detergent. Sirvival rate of viable cell count of leaf vegetables was less than $0.1\%$ after blanching for one minutes in boiling tap water, Composition of coliform was $18\%$ Escherichia coli group, $22\%$ Citrobacter freundii group and $60\%$ Klebsiella aerogenes group, among Escherichia coli, type I being $16\%$ in total. The coliform detection from BGLB gas positive tubes being planted with various vegetables was about $80\%$ in the result of IMViC reaction.
Batch experiments were performed to determine the feasibility of the surfactant-enhanced soil washing process at various washing conditions for the Kuwait soil seriously contaminated with the crude oil. The soil was sampled at a dried oil pond in Kuwait and its average TPH concentration was 223,754 mg/kg, which was too high to apply the conventional remediation process. Nine commercialized non-ionic surfactants were used for the batch experiment to measure the surfactant solubility for the crude oil because it was reported that they have worked for the soil remediation. Among them, three surfactants having high crude oil solubility were used for the soil washing experiment. From the result of batch experiment, 5% TritonX-100 washing solution showed the highest TPH removal efficiency (67%) for the crude oil contaminated soil. However, because the residual TPH concentration in the washed soil was still higher than the clean-up level in Kuwait (10,000 mg/kg), the repeated soil washing was performed. After five washings with 2% surfactant solution, the cumulative TPH removal efficiency was higher than 96% and the residual TPH concentration in the soil went down below the clean-up level. To measure the desorption capacity of TritonX-100 remained in the soil after the soil washing, the silica beads and the soil were washed five times with 2% TritonX-100 surfactant solution and then they were washed again with distilled water to detach the surfactant adsorbed on beads or soil. After five washings with surfactant solution, 7.8% and 19.6% of the surfactant was adsorbed on beads and soil, respectively. When additionally washed with distilled water, most of the residual surfactant were detached from beads and only 4.3% of surfactant was remained in soil. From the results, it was investigated that the surfactant-enhanced soil washing process with TritonX-100, Tergitol S-15-7, and Tergitol S-15-9 has a great capability for the remediation of the Kuwait soil seriously contaminated by crude oil (more than 220,000 mg/kg).
Tolerance mechanism to flupyrazofos was examined with Plutella xylostella (L.) and Spodoptera exigua by investigating the penetration rate of flupyrazofos into larvae body. On determining effective washing of $^{14}C$-flupyrazofos, the washing volume to recover over 98% of $^{14}C$-flupyrazofos was observed at three times (each time: 1 mL). To select a suitable solvent, the recovery rates of each solvent in 3rd instar larvae of DBM were above 98%, but the washing rates of acetone, hexane and ethyl-acetate were 85.1%, 67.2% and 68.4%, respectively. In the BAW larvae, although the recovery rates of each solvent were above 99%, the washing rates of acetone, hexane and ethyl-acetate were 83.5%, 65.9% and 71.7%, respectively. The $PT_{50}$ values of $^{14}C$-flupyrazofos were 0.731 h (44 min) in the DBM larva and 0.504 h (30 min) in the BAW larva. Radiocarbon in acetone washing (external fraction) decreased more quickly in the BAW larva than in the DBM larva, and amount of radiocarbon in larvae body increased more quickly with time in the DBM larva than in the BAW larva. In contrast, amount of radiocarbon in excreta increased more rapidly with time in the BAW larva than in the DBM larva.
In this study, poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) was treated with fluorination and ultrasonic washing treatment for hydrophilic modification of PET film. We measured the change of surface modified PET film surface characteristics using contact angle, surface free energy, FE-SEM, AFM and XPS. After direct fluorination and ultrasonic washing treatment, the water contact angle was measured to be $10.81^{\circ}$, 85% reduction compared to the untreated PET film. Total surface free energy has been measured to be $42.25mNm^{-1}$, 650% increase compared to the untreated PET film. Also RMS roughness has been measured to be 1.965 nm, 348% increase compared to the untreated PET film. Hydrophilic functional group C-OH bond concentration has increased approximately 3 times. These results are attributed to the hydrophilic functional group and cavitation due to chemical etching. From this result, it was suggested that the fluorination-ultrasonic washing treatment method could be useful to make PET film surface hydrophilic.
Dissipation pattern of tebuconazole was evaluated by establishing application methods of the fungicide, paper-bagging of grape during growth and washing of grape after harvest. Application times increased from three to five resulted in high levels of residues in grape. Tebuconazole in grapes was present in different residual patterns with periods after final treatment ranging from 7 to 25 days. Significant differences in the residual patterns were also found when tebuconazole was treated during three different application periods, possibly due to meteorological condition and/or grape growth during each period. At the range from 2.5 g to 7.5 g of grape granules, residues were higher in small-sized grape than in big-sized grape and were mostly distributed on the peel of the grapes. Paper-bagging was a critical factor for reducing the fungicide residue on the peel. flesh of bagged and no-bagged grape had very low level of residues, 0.01 mg/kg and 0.05 mg/kg, respectively. Residues on grape was effectively eliminated with the washing methods suggested, a consecutive sinking-washing system Using of detergent solution during washing showed maximum residue reduction from grape. The washing methods showed effective action on the removal of lower content providing complete elimination, or almost, of the residues.
