This study is aiming to suggest baseline date for the establishment of policy alternative to make healthy consumption life of the elderly through investigating and analyzing actual condition of consumption related with the awareness of health functional food such as purchase behavior and consumer's problems about health functional food. Under the assumption that the vitalization of health functional food market will become an important market in the present and in the future, the fundamental marketing information about elder consumers is more important than any other information that is essential for successful marketing to domestic corporations and senior policy experts. In addition, there was a fundamental significance to provide necessary basic data for health promotion of the elderly by offering information about rights and interests of elder consumers who are members of vulnerable social group or right choice of purchasing or intake. The limitations of this study are as follows. First, the subjects were selected who live in Gangwon-do with the age of 60 and over due to the limitation of sampling, and that might be shown local characteristics. Therefore, the study result could not be generalized on behalf of all elderly in Korea and it is difficult to apply the result to more segmented market. To solve this problem, studies containing sampling by regional groups might be needed.
Background: In the absence of a vaccine or treatment, the most pragmatic strategies against an infectious disease pandemic are extensive early detection testing and social distancing. This study aimed to summarize public and workplace responses to Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) and show how the Korean system has operated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Daily briefings from the Korean Center for Disease Control and the Central Disaster Management Headquarters were assembled from January 20 to May 15, 2020. Results: By May 15, 2020, 11,018 COVID-19 cases were identified, of which 15.7% occurred in workplaces such as health-care facilities, call centers, sports clubs, coin karaoke, and nightlife destinations. When the first confirmed case was diagnosed, the Korean Center for Disease Control and Central Disaster Management Headquarters responded quickly, emphasizing early detection with numerous tests and a social distancing policy. This slowed the spread of infection without intensive containment, shut down, or mitigation interventions. After entering the public health blue alert level, a business continuity plan was distributed. After entering the orange level, the Ministry of Employment and Labor developed workplace guidelines for COVID-19 consisting of social distancing, flexible working schedules, early identification of workers with suspected infections, and disinfection of workplaces. Owing to the intensive workplace social distancing policy, workplaces remained safe with only small sporadic group infections. Conclusion: The workplace social distancing policy with timely implementation of specific guidelines was a key to preventing a large outbreak of COVID-19 in Korean workplaces. However, sporadic incidents of COVID-19 are still ongoing, and risk assessment in vulnerable workplaces should be continued.

Purpose: This study examined the effects of a personality-development program on ego-resilience and maladaptive behavior of school age children. Method: This study used a non-equivalent control group pre-post design. The data was collected from Apr. 2007 to Nov. 2007. The subjects consisted of 33 children. The experimental group (n=17) participated in a self-development program that consisted of 8 sessions during an 8 week period, each session lasted for 45 minutes. To examine the effects of the self-development program an ego-resilience scale and behavior problem scale (BPPS)of K-YSR were measured before and after the program. Result: The results of analyses indicated that the score of ego-resilience increased but not significantly in the experimental group. There was significant change in anxiety/depression, social problems, and aggressive behavior of BPS of K-YSR after the intervention. Conclusion: This study showed that the 'Personality-Development Program' was effective on maladaptive behavior. Therefore, it is advisable to use it in a community-based child center for maladaptive behavior in vulnerable children.

Results: It was found that the intervention program for the vulnerable group in marketplace was appropriate, promoting the improvement of metabolic syndrome and the reduction of pain complaints. Therefore, the intervention framework for health promotion of women workers in the marketplace was developed. Work-related environment assessment also was included in the framework development. Several community capacity building strategies, including developing community resources and promoting partnership, making small social network group, and promoting program participation. Conclusion: It is suggested that occupational health nurses and professionals consider the appropriateness of intervention framework development after identifying the needs of women workers' work-related environmental problems.
A total of 181 college students(61 males 121 females) with at least 5 years of living abroad (Returnee Group) and another group of 181 students (92 males and 93 females) without extended period of living abroad (Comparison Group) participated in the study by completing a questionnaire consisting of Acculturation Index, Multidimensional Acculturation Scale, Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire, Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale, CES-D, and WHOQOL. The results indicated that the Returnee Group, compared to the Comparison Group, reported as good adjustment toward college life in Korea and positive attitude toward the Korean identity, but a higher level of loneliness. When the Returnee Group were divided into 4 different groups on the basis of acculturation pattern, the Integration and Assimilation Type reported a better adjustment to college life, lower depression and loneliness and better quality of life than the Marginalization Type. The Mariginalization Type appears to be the most vulnerable group, experiencing difficulties in all areas of adjustment, and is clearly in need of interventions. Limitations of the present study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
Objective: The present study examined how childcare teachers at home daycare centers perceive their rights as teachers and what kind of rights situations pertain to them at their respective daycare centers. Methods: Adopting a qualitative research method approach, this study conducted focus group interviews to collect empirical data. The participants were childcare teachers and directors at home daycare centers, which were shown to have relatively poor work environments compared to other types of daycare centers Results: The findings revealed that the participants at home daycare centers perceived their rights as childcare teachers to be extremely vulnerable. It was shown that their rights could not be protected in various frameworks involving mutual relations between teachers and directors, the Infant Care Act and childcare policy, and social perceptions that fail to recognize them as professionals. Conclusion: The fingdings from the present study contribute to our understanding of the rights situation faced by childcare teachers at home daycare centers and to the social discourse on finding ways to realize the teachers' full rights as childcare professionals.

A general equilibrium growth model is constructed to analyse the income distributional impacts of the 1973 world oil crisis upon the Korean economy. Our results show that all consumer groups experienced a virtually uniform percentage reduction in their income levels. This implies that a lower income groups may be more damaged in a relative sense. In any rate, there were no domestic groups who benefit from the international oil crisis. This model could be used to figure out which social group will be most vulnerable against the next possible oil crisis we may expect in the future. Our result nay provide us a guideline for a compensating program to protect such groups against an external shock.

Social distance can indicate cognitive and behavioral attitudes toward a social group, and is useful for investigating people situated in a socially vulnerable position. When the children from multicultural family aware negative attitudes from peer Korean children, self-confidence and social competence can be disturbed. This study intended to examine influential factors on children's social distance towards children from multicultural families including multicultural contact experience, stereotype, ethnically homogeneous nationalism, thereby providing empirical evidence on social distance regarding multicultural families and their children. The results of this study are as follows. First, when the Korean children felt closeness with a multicultural child, when the ethnicity of the foreigner resided in the neighbor is White or Black, when they contact multicultural children through the media and a multicultural education, the level of social distance was higher, while the neighbor's ethnicity is Abrab, social distance was lower. Second, there was a significant association between the higher level of Korean children's positive cognition and emotion and the lower level of social distance. Third, hierarchial regression analyses demonstrated that positive emotion and cognition decreased the level of social distance, while both closeness with a multicultural child and taking the multicultural education increased the level of social distance. Finally, based on these results, this study suggested implications for social work practice and research to better understand and reduce children's social distance towards children from multicultural families.
This study has the purpose to measure the multidimensional poverty in Korea by the counting approach which was theorized by Alkire and Foster to overcome problems of unidimensional approach, union method and intersection method for the identification of the multidimensional poor. By the counting approach applying to Welfare Panel in Korea during 2006-2008, the head-count ratio of the multidimensional poverty was measured. When 3 dimensions are applied as a dimension poverty line, the multidimensional poverty rate was 20% in 2008. It was due to broad deprivations in assets, social securities, income and health. Vulnerable classes such as single parent families, low-education level group, the aged, economically non-active population were among the severe poverty rates, which were reaching around 50%. The analysis reveals the possible alternative to change the present public assistance program to the robust approach of multidimensional poverty measurement, the counting approach. Social policies to reduce poverty in Korea would gain expected positive outcome with the various approaches based on the concepts of multidimensional poverty.

This study analyzed the effectiveness of visiting reading programs for vulnerable children, focusing on the case of libraries in A-si, Gyeonggi-do. Library A utilized a visiting teacher to deliver books that matched the children's levels and interests through non-face-to-face interactions, or to engage in face-to-face reading sessions and deliver books together. In 2022, a total of 158 individuals from 103 families participated in the program, with 103 individuals from 67 families delivering books and 55 individuals from 36 families engaging in book reading activities. Pre- and post-project surveys were conducted to assess the reading effects, and interviews were conducted with the visiting teachers. The analysis revealed that the level and interest of the children during book delivery and reading sessions were identified, and the effects of reading books with high levels of interaction were significant. Infants who were able to easily acquire reading experiences according to their age exhibited better reading effects compared to elementary school students. The program aimed at the new participant group showed slightly greater effectiveness than the group of continuing participants. Furthermore, following the implementation of the program, improvements were observed in reading interest, reading attitude, reading environment, reading interaction, self-esteem, social skills, language ability, reading proficiency, self-directed learning ability, and library utilization rate.
