  • This paper proposes a new high-voltage measuring system that is able to provide current enough to charge a storage battery for a motor driving a load switch, and detect each phase voltage and phase angle in three phase distribution line accurately. In order to develop the reliable voltage measuring system we had designed and manufactured condenser-type bushing having good characteristics for temperature on account of using epoxy resin as dielectric material, and investigated the variation characteristics of capacitance via variation of applied voltage. The experiment results show that the proposed condenser has good characteristics to environmental changes.

  • This Paper deals with voltage variation and voltage regulation method in power distribution systems including cogeneration facilities. In order to deliver suitable voltages to many customers at the distribution substations. In this paper, an on-line real time modified voltage regulation method is proposed. The result from a case study show that the proposed method can be practical tool for the voltage regulation in distribution systems including cogeneration facilities.

  • The cogeneration facilities (COGN) into the power distribution system can cause operational problems - reenergization of distribution feeders under repair by utility personnel, voltage variation and regulation because of output power of COGN, and lost of coordination at emergency state - on an electrical utility system. This paper deals with momentary voltage dips as the parallel interconnection operation of COGN in the power distribution system. PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool is used to show the behavior of momentary voltage dips. In addition, restraint solution for momentary voltage variation is presented.

  • Recently as distributed source has increased, the distribution system has changed from unidirectional power flow to bi-directional power flow. This power flow causes the PCC voltage variation, which can adversely affect voltage sensitive loads. In this paper, the relation between the active power, reactive power and PCC voltage of the distributed source is analyzed, and the PCC voltage control scheme by reactive power compensation is proposed in the distributed source itself. In addition, limitations and conditions according to the standard for interconnecting distributed resources are specified and verified through simulation.

A Compensator for Lateral Current Reduction Applied to Autonomously Controlled UPSs Connected in Parallel

  • This paper presents a compensator for reduction of the reactive lateral current in multiple autonomously controlled uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) connected in parallel. This compensator acts directly on the control equation for voltage amplitude and it provides an improved current distribution especially in the case of parallel connection of UPSs with different output power ratings. Observations show that the original control equation for output voltage amplitude is efficient for voltage regulation but it causes great variation of voltage levels. A compensator with the same structure is added to counterbalance the variation caused by the original control equation. Simulations show promising results with the employment of the proposed compensator. Our simulations are confirmed by experimental results using three UPSs with different output ratings and voltage limiters ($1\%$) connected in parallel under various conditions.

  • A voltage driving AMOLED(Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) is useful for large-sized, high resolution OLED display. The conventional 2-TFTs, 1-CAP AMOLED circuit suffer from the threshold voltage variation of TFT. In this paper, a new AMOLED structure is proposed. It is composed of 5-TFTs and 2-capacitors. It is described that the operating principle and the characteristics of the proposed structure and is verified the performance by HSPICE simulation. The result of simulation shows that the effect of the threshold voltage variation in this circuit, is able to neglect.

  • In this paper, we report the wall voltage transfer characteristic between sustain electrodes according to the address bias voltage in a 3-electrodes surface discharge type ac PDP by the VT close curve measurement technique. The result shows the change of wall voltage according to the gap voltage variation depends on the address bias voltage.

  • Degradation characteristics of the Pr-based ZnO varistor with $Y_2O_3$content (0.0-4.0 mol!%j were investigated. It was appeared that the variation of the J-E characteristics in the reverse direction before and after the applied stress with increasing $Y_2O_3$ content was larger than that of the forward direction but the variation was extrernly small. For all varistor, the leakage current with the stress time during the applied stress somewhat increased initialy but afterthat was almost constant or slightly decreased. The overall varistor voltage and nonlinear coefficient were less than 5%. Especially, in the case of Pr-based ZnO varistor containing 2.0 mol% to 4.0 mol% $Y_2O_3$, the variation of breakdown voltage and nonlinear coefficient was less than 1% and 5%. respectively. As a result, they showed good stability.

  • Electric energy is consumed or regenerated according to an operation of electric rail cars in urban railway power substations. A thyristor dual converter system is used to deal with the electric energy. Since the AC input voltage of power substations is $22.9kV{\pm}10%$, the magnitude of the AC voltage fluctuates according to load conditions, so the secondary side voltage of the DDY transformer also fluctuates. In the thyristor dual converter, the response characteristics of the DC output voltage and the DC output current are changed based on an initial firing angle in the cross mode conversion between the forward mode and the reverse mode. Therefore, this paper proposes the initial firing angle tracking algorithm considering fluctuation of the AC input voltage. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by a simulation compared with the conventional algorithm.

  • Recently, the interest in DC systems to achieve more efficient connection with renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, and DC loads has been growing extensively. DC systems are more advantageous than AC systems because of their low conversion losses. However, the DC-link voltage is variable during operation because of different random effects. This study focuses on DC voltage stabilization applied in stand-alone DC microgrids by means of voltage ranges, power management, and coordination scheme. The quality and stability of the entire system are improved by keeping the voltage within acceptable limits. In terms of optimized control, the maximum power should be tracked from renewable resources during different operating modes of the system. The ESS and VSDG cover the power shortage after all available renewable energy is consumed. Keeping the state of charge of the ESS within the allowed bands is the key role of the control system. Load shedding or power generation curtailment should automatically occur if the maximum tolerable voltage variation is exceeded. PSIM-based simulation results are presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed control measures.
