Low Phase Noise CMOS VCO with Hybrid Inductor

  • A low phase noise CMOS voltage controlled oscillator(VCO) for multi-band/multi-standard RF Transceivers is presented. For both wide tunability and low phase noise characteristics, Hybrid inductor which uses both bondwire inductor and planar spiral inductor in the same area, is proposed. This approach reduces inductance variation and presents high quality factor without custom-designed single-turn inductor occupying large area, which improves phase noise and tuning range characteristics without additional area loss. An LC VCO is designed in a 0.13um CMOS technology to demonstrate the hybrid inductor concept. The measured phase noise is -121dBc/Hz at 400KHz offset and -142dBc/Hz at 3MHz offset from a 900MHz carrier frequency after divider. The tuning range of about 28%(3.15 to 4.18GHz) is measured. The VCO consumes 7.5mA from 1.3V supply and meets the requirements for GSM/EDGE and WCDMA standard.

  • An accurate constant output voltage provided by the analog memory cell may be used by the low power oscillator to generate an accurate low frequency output signal. This accurate low frequency output signal may be used to maintain long-term timing accuracy in host devices during sleep modes of operation when an external crystal is not available to provide a clock signal. Further, incorporation of the analog memory cell in the low power oscillator is fully implementable in a 0.35um Samsung standard CMOS process. Therefore, the analog memory cell incorporated into the low power oscillator avoids the previous problems in a oscillator by providing a temperature-stable, low power consumption, size-efficient method for generating an accurate reference clock signal that can be used to support long sleep mode operation.

마이크로파 자유공간 전송을 이용한 산물벼 함수율 측정장치 개발 (Development of Moisture Content Measurement Device for Paddy Rice using Microwave Free Space Transmission)

  • This study was conducted to develop a grain moisture meter using microwave free space transmission technique at X-band frequency. The 10.5GHz microwave oscillator using a dielectric resonator was designed and fabricated to transmit electromagnetic wave through standard horn antenna to a sample holder with the wetted Hwasung and Chuchung rough rice(12.00∼26.25%). To detect the output voltage of transmitted wave from receiving horn antenna, the detector was composed of shottkey diode and RF impedance matching circuit. The regression model for measurement of grain moisture content was developed. Its correlation coefficient and standard error of prediction (SEP) were found to be 0.9882 and 0.657 respectively between measure and predicted moisture contents.

  • The effect of S content in welding wires on spattering characteristics and droplet transfer phenomena was studied. In MAG welding using 80%Ar-$20%CO_2$ shielding gas, spattering characteristics and droplet transfer phenomena were varied with S content of wire. Sulfur addition in wire reduced surface tension of droplet and weld pool, and made arc more stable in MAG welding. With increasing S content, the spattering ratio and the ratio of large size spatter ($d{\geq}1.0mm$) were reduced in short circuit transfer mode. In spray transfer mode, spattering ratio, however was increased when sulfur was added more than 0.020wt.% because surface tension of droplets and weld pool was reduced too much even though arc stability was improved.

  • According to the korea standard (KS)'s definition through 'KSC IEC 61643-1(2007), A SPD(Surge Protective Device) is an appliance designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes and the principal components used to reduce or limit high voltages can include one or more of the nonlinear components. 4 type of those nonlinear components are utilized in accordance with korea standard's IEC regulation. The SPD is installed the place(in and out side of installation for protecting damage due to the inflow of light surge) which we need by combination of nonlinear components. In this study, the analysis based on the characteristics of SPD from PF track circuit are discussed.

  • Due to the miniaturization of electrical components and assembles on signal circuits, transient overvoltages caused by switching operation or lightning surges have become more interesting concern to the field of electrical engineering. In this paper, the development of surge protective devices(SPDs) that can protect sensitive signal device on shipboard from overvoltages are described. Two kinds of SPDs are designed and tested by using a combination surge generator which can produce the standard impulse current of 8/20${\mu}s$ 2.1kA according to the IEC 61000-4-5 standard. From the simulation and experimental results, it is confirmed that the proposed SPDs have an enough protection performance with a low insertion loss and a low clamping voltage.

  • 본 논문은 HANbit ACE64 ATM 교환기 시스템의 데이터 경로인 IMI(Inter Module Path)에 사용되는 고속 전송선로인 Twinax 케이블을 two-port lumped Spice-network 모델로 구현하기 위해 lumped 네트워크 요소와 수학적 함수를 사용하여 개발하였다. 사용된 요소들은 저항성분과 주파수의존 전압제어 소스로 구성되어 있고 Hspice 수학적 함수인 FREQ, DELAY, POLY를 사용하여 구현하였다. 구현된 모델을 사용하여 케이블 길이와 종류에 따른 각종 노이즈 분석을 실시하여 그 특성을 비교 분석하였다.

  • Recently, application area of the thyristor is extends to power conversion systems, such as HVDC, BTB, SVC and FACTS. Therefore, reliability diagnostic technique on thyristor is needed to obtain stability and maintenance of power conversion systems. To measure the characteristics of the thyristor, test equipments which based on IEC 747-6 and KS C 7023 standard are needed. In this paper, we presents the design and manufacture of the test equipments for 6.5kV/4.2kA thyristor which used in thyristor valve of HVDC conversion systems by using test standard. Voltage, current, dv/dt and turn-off time test equipments were designed and manufactured. Each systems were made separately, but unity operation can possible.

  • 'KRS 6330-3256라' standard regulates performance test of insulating transformer for protecting the electronic interlock linkage equipment which is being done by test procedures and methods according to the standard. The balance/unbalance test evaluating the performance of transformer are applied by impulse voltage($l2/200{\mu}s$) but affected by many other factors. Therefore, the review about these is necessary to have the reliability and reappearance of test results. In this paper, we have simulated about several phenomenon appearing in real balance/unbalance test and compared simulated results with real ones. With the basis of these results, the influence to test result of inner and outer factors are investigated and analyzed and established the plan boosting the reliability and reappearance of test results.

저압 지중케이블의 토양 열저항률 적용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Apply to Soil Thermal Resistivity of Low-Voltage Underground Power Cables)

  • The current-carrying capacities in IEC standards for underground refers to a soil thermal resistivity of 2.5[$K{\cdot}m/W$] where no measured data are available. But this value is considered too conservative and may not justifiable economically as to need precaution in using the value. In this paper, the standard practices on the application of soil thermal resistivity of some countries(UK, USA etc) are surveyed and proposed a reasonable representative value 1.0[$K{\cdot}m/W$] of soil thermal resistivity considering the domestic soil thermal properties with regard to the application of IEC standard.
