Recently, there has been growing interest in barrier-free design which makes safe and convenient space for every pedestrian, not only the non-disabled but also the disabled. The purpose of this study is to suggest the data on the pavement materials of barrier-free pedestrian environment in view of universal design. In order to this, the research is focused on evaluating the visual preference and preference factors for pavement scenery, which can be changed by pavement materials. And this research is also comparing the visual preference and preference factors of the disabled with that of the non-disabled. A multi-regression analysis method is adopted to analyse the correlation between the visual preference for pavement scenery and preference factors in this study. The result of this analysis is as follows. Firstly, there are some differences of visual preference for the pavement material between the disabled and the non-disabled. Secondly, independent variables influencing on preference are similar between two groups. Thirdly, there are some differences in the priority of preference between the disabled and the non-disabled. This study will contribute to the field of barrier-free design and sustainable development projects in order to maximize the human being's satisfaction.
This study has evaluated the visual preference factor of Keum river sceneries which could vary according to the change of water level while other scenic environment near by the river did not change. 1) At Gap Cheon site, the variances of the visual preferences for river scenery at different water level are determined as emotional, physical, aesthetic and individual factor. At Mujoo site, the variances of the visual preferences are determined as only two factors such as emotional and physical factors. Those factors show significant relations. All of the visual preferences are increased as the increase of preference factors. Also decreasing of preference factors result in decreasing of visual preferences. 2) In multiple regression model, both the Gap cheon site and Mujoo site show that the increase of emotional factor affect most to visual preference when other conditions are fixed. The physical factor affect less than the emotional factor. At Gap cheon site, the relative importance level which the preference factors contribute to the visual preference appears as the order of emotional, physical, aesthetic and individual factor. Emotional factor's importance level is 4.2 times greater than individual factor. At Mujoo site, the relative importance level which the preference factors contribute to the visual preference appears as the order of emotional and physical factor. The emotional factor's importance level is 1.1 times greater than physical factor. It is clearly indicate that the emotional factor is most important preference factor in both study sites. The factor analysis results of Keum river scenery at different water level using the visual evaluation method affect a lot to the quantification of river instream flow and water level.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate visual preferences of the methods for river embankment based on seasonal changes and to reveal the relationship between visual preference and effective factors, which are the physical and esthetic elements inside the river. For this research seven river embankment methods including concrete block, concrete wall, gabion, and vegetated concrete block were selected in Dongchon of Gwangyang. Twenty-eight pictures by the four pictures of each embankment method based on seasonal changes, the winter and summer of the first and second years after construction were used for a photo-questionnaire by 49 participants. In the analysis of the relationship between visual preference and effective factors, the independent variables included eight factors: form of the material, harmony with the surroundings, the cleanness of river floor, the green area of embankment methods, the water area in river floor, the stone and sand area in river floor, the planting area in river floor, and the area of embankment itself. The result of this study are as follows. First, visual preference in summer was higher than in winter, and the summer landscape of the second you scored the highest value for visual preference. Second, similarly to the way the vegetated concrete block produced a green effect, cobblestone and gabion embankments made of natural materials scored higher than others, whereas the concrete retaining wall scored the lowest of all methods because of it's artificiality. Third, the seven independent variables, except form of the material, are proved statistically significant at the 5% level. The water area in river floor, harmony with the surroundings, the planting area in river floor, and the cleanness of the river floor were revealed as more effective factors influencing visual preference. The research results suggest that the riverscape has to be controlled in terms of seasonal change and embankment methods. Natural materials and green effects in embankment methods are more important for increasing landscape preference, and the landscape factors inside a river should also be considered important variables. It is recommended that advanced study on other factors affecting visual preference of the riverscape be carried out to support this research.

Roof greening in a city can contributes to not only providing network opportunities for dispersed greenspace patches but also bringing more greenspaces into a city. In addition, it can help to flooding and microclimate control in the city. Recently, a number of roof greening projects have been introduced, mainly to public buildings and schools. Roof peening need to offers both ecological functions and convenience and satisfaction for urban residents. This study aims to provide directions for improving ecological benefits and visual preference of roof greening. Twelve scene slides were adopted to measure people's visual preference. The survey results show that landscape images can be categorized into naturalness, visual diversity, uniqueness, and spatial flexibility. Physical scenes can be classified into type I mostly greened by plants, type II mixed between convenience facilities and plants, and type III constructed with pond. People show high preferences to type I and type II when visual diversity is high. The results of this study suggest to enhance the visual preference by considering visual diversity when applying the ecological design methods to improve naturalness for roof greening.

The purpose of this thesis is to suggest basic objective data for landscape planning and design through the quantitative analysis of the visual impact of pavilion situated in natural landscapes. For this, naturality and visual preference scores of landscape s1ides were measured by questionnaires, visual volumes of pavilion in the natural landscape were evaluated using the Mesh analysis and images structure was analyzed by the factor analysis algorithm The results of this thesis can be summarized as follow. Landscape slides No. 27 and 9 were ranked more highly for naturality, and slides No.22, 28, 6 and 4 were ranked more highly for visual preference. Factors covering the spatial image of the natural landscape were found to be the evaluation, the tidiness and the space volume. By using the control method for the number of factors, T. V., were obtained as 59.0%. For all experimental landscape slides, the factors of evaluation and tidiness were found to be the main factors determining the naturality and visual preference. The naturality and actor scores and the visual preference and factor scores were found to exepress the regression relation.

The open space of apartment complex has changed diversely according to construction periods which were divided into the introduction stage (the 1980s), the development stage (the 1990s), and the maturity stage (after 1999). This study set out to analyze the periodic changes of visual characteristics and preference with the open space of apartment complexes in Cheongju City. For analysis of visual characteristics and preference, nineteen adjectives that were determined to sufficiently express the feeling of the open space of apartment complex. The results are as follows. As for adjective image assessment by using descriptive statistics, favorable images were shown in complexes of maturity stage phase that were constructed after the liberalization of apartment sale in 1999. These results may be caused both by quantitative increase and diversification of materials in planting and landscaping furniture and by nature-friendly designing. The results of factor analysis by Varimax rotation method showed that common variance was 73.9%, which indicates higher explanation. The nineteen adjectives could be divided into three factors, 'pleasantness factor,' 'negative factor,' and 'irregular factor.' Visual preference was analysed by using Least significant Difference (LSD) by analysis of variance : complexes of maturity stage phase that were constructed according to the liberalization of apartment sale in 1999 were highest in assessment. The correlation between view preference and adjective images was analyzed by multiple regression analysis, and 'feeling like walking,' 'well-arranged,' 'beautiful,' 'friendly,' and 'clean' (in order) were adjective images that most affected the preference. As for the analysis of the correlation between visual preference and physical components of view, the preference increased as the rate of pavement and greens was higher, while it decreased as size of building was larger. Therefore, backgrounds of walking and greens had strong effects on the preference.
This research investigated the preference factor which has an effect on the forms of bus stop shelter in order to grasp the visual preference factor, which is necessary for planning and designing of bus stop shelter centering around user, starting with the question of the research regarding that a shelter is preferred by what kind of factor when the environmental conditions are regular. This research examined the relation between visual preference and preference factor which has an effect on it with Multiple Regression Analysis after evaluating visual preference for shelter form by user as applying of scoring system of Interval Scale. The result of the factor analysis by visual evaluation for the form of bus stop shelter through the said research result will have an great effect on the design of bus stop shelter centering around its user. Therefore, this research result will give a knowledge which is necessary for the plan and the installation of bus stop shelter, and contributes to shelter design and bus stop promotion which can maximize the satisfaction of user. As well, concerning the management of bus stop facilities, it will give useful guidelines for planning strategically the shelter management centering around user. In particular, It is estimated that the preference factor analysis by visual evaluation of the mass transportation user in daily life will be the cardinal point for bus stop plan.

The purpose of this study was to figure out visual character and preference of roadscape for the main entrance road in Chongju. We took 9.6km which was from the Chongju interchange of Kyungbu expressway to Sangdang park and was thought to have a peculiar characteristics. This main entrance road was seperated into 4 parts according to arranging patterns of roadside trees and buildings. To investigate the visual characters, the sementic differential scale experiment was used. The visual characters, the sementic differential scale experiment was used. The visual preference was examined by analyzing visual volume of 4 factors. The results of the study based on these analyses were as below : 1. Factors that compose the visual characters of roadscape were classified by the emotional factor, the individual factor and the physical factor. These 3 factors showed a64.14% total variance. Among 3 factors the emotional factor which represented psychological reaction was appreciated to be the highest and the physical factor was assessed to be the lowest. 2. 24 items in total 14 adjectives showed the following ranking of mean values in sementic differential experiment : Road I -->RoadIII-->RoadII-->RoadIV. The mean values between Road I and RoadIV showed a significant difference, which can be explained to be a contrast between the natural factor and the artificial factor. 3. The mean value of the visual preference was the highest at Road I and the lowest at Road IV. While Road II and Road III showed 3.51 and 4.71, respectively. 4. The effect of 4 factors on visual preference was analyzed by regression as follows : Visual preference =1.2983+0.0627 + 0.0230+0.0203, R-Square=0.5

The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of viewing aspects based on formal aesthetics and psychophysica approaches of the MAISAN provincial park for landscape management. Two methods are applied in this study. First, according to the field study with map the quantitative analyses of the viewshed area, visual section and scenery types were achieved, herein the visual landscape characteristics is found. Second, based upon visual preference evaluation of the relationships between the viewing aspects and visual preference scores to landscape slides were measured by questionnaires. The main conclusions obtained by the research are as follows. Visual area of MAISAN has a quite wide viewshed though itself is surrounded. The preference for the visual terminal were change by its characteristics to the visual corridors, view points, viewing types and viewing distance. Especially, the regression analysis between visual preference and viewing distance indicated Y=-3.20X\sup 2\+18.64X+20.64. In this case, viewing distance 794m from O\sub p\ is more important point for visual experience. The viewing types B·C and famous view A obtained a high visual preference score. A visual terminus are viewed along an entire RouteA, so revealed by its evolving spatial containment as to exact the full potential of its changing perspectives. Also we conducted the degree of visual influence by the shade in visual area at MAISAN and clarified viewing vantage Route and point in LSH being necessary for landscape preservation.
Due to the rapid economic development of Korea, the bridge have been built by government over the several years. Additionally, there are too many mountain and river and the bridge have been built in rural area. But bridge designers weren't considering the bridge landscape. And bridge was a negative factor in regional landscape. Because of this, this study surveyed the landscape preferences of rural bridge landscapes according to different bridge types. The results were summarized as follows: And this research include conducting a study on visual preference according to the bridge's type and background. And, the landscape of arch bridge in the river 1 is landscape of the highest preference. The the landscape of girder bridge in the river 2 is landscape of the lowest preference. In the river 1 and 2 landscape, high preference is observed in the arch bridge and low preference is noted in the girder bridge. In the mountain 1 and 2 landscape, high preference is observed in the cable-stayed bridge and low preference is noted in the girder bridge. In conclusion, the visual preference of bridge landscape depend on the background and bridge shape, the study said. Therefore, when bridge designer design the bridge, designer have to choose proper bridge shape according to the background. This research was conducted only in bridge landscape of rural area but the visual preference of bridge landscape can be changed according to the various background. And further research is needed to analyze visual preference of bridge landscape according to the various background.
