  • This study describes viscoelasticity analysis of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite material. One of the most important problem during high temperature molding process is residual stress. Residual stress can cause warpage and cracks which can lead to serious defects of the final product. For the difference in thermal expansion coefficient and change of resin property during curing, it is difficult to predict the final deformed shape of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite. The consideration of chemical shrinkage can reduce the prediction errors. For this reason, this study includes the viscoelasticity and chemical shrinkage effects in FE analysis by creating subroutines in ABAQUS. Analysis results are compared with other researches to verify the validity of the subroutine developed, and several stacking sequences are introduced to compare tested results.

  • The effect of ${\beta}$-glucan, prepared from waxy barley, on the dynamic viscoelasticity of nonwaxy and waxy barley starch during gelatinization and gelation was studied. Although no significant effect was observed on waxy starch, there were drastic changes in the dynamic viscoelasticity of nonwaxy starch. The gelatinization onset temperature of nonwaxy starch shifted to a higher temperature and showed a drastic increase in storage modulus and loss modulus at the range of $80{\sim}90^{\circ}C$. During the gelation of nonwaxy starch, ${\beta}$-glucan increased the rate of gel formation and weakened the network of starch and amylose by prohibiting their association. Therefore, we proved that there was no specific interaction between amylose and ${\beta}$-glucan. The addition of ${\beta}$-glucan to waxy starch seemed to have no effect of waxy starch.

  • A mathematical model of viscoelasticity on the material property of human pharyngeal tissue utilizing Y.C. Fung's Quasi-linear viscoelastic theory is proposed based on cyclic load, stress relaxation, incremental load, and uniaxial tensile load tests. The material properties are characterized and compared with other biological materials' results. The mathematical model is proposed by combining two characteristic functions determined from the stress relaxation and uniaxial tensile load tests. The reduced stress relaxation function G(t) and elastic response function S(t) are obtained from stress relaxation test and uniaxial tensile load test results respectively. Then the model describing stress-time history of the tissue is implemented utilizing two functions. The proposed model is evaluated and validated by comparing the model's cyclic behaviour with experimental results. The model data could be utilized as an important information for constructing 3-dimensional biomechanical model of human pharynx using FEM(Finite Element Method).

  • The polishing pad is important element for polishing characteristic such as material removal rate(MRR) and within wafer non-uniformity(WIWNU) in the chemical mechanical planarization(CMP). The result of the viscoelasticity measurement shows that 1st elastic modulus is increased and 2nd elastic modulus is decreased when the top pad is thickened. The finite element analysis(FEA) was conducted to predict characteristic of polishing behavior according to the pad thickness. The result of polishing experiment was similar with the FEA, and it shows that the 1st elastic modulus affects instantaneous deformation of pad related to MRR. And the 2nd elastic modulus has an effect on WIWNU due to the viscoelasticity deformation of pad.

  • Although the reptational model of Doi and Edwards gives a successful description of viscoelasticity of flexible linear polymers, the success is restricted to the terminal region./sup 1/ There have been several attempts to modify the Doi-Edwards model to describe wider range of time or frequency./sup 2-6/ This paper suggests a simple phenomenological model which can describe wider range of molecular weight than such molecular models can. Although our model is a phenomenological one, it is practical and convenient to predict the effect of molecular weight distribution on linear viscoelastic data because of its simple mathematical form.

  • The sensitivity of the final filament to the ongoing sinusoidal disturbances has been Investigated in the viscoelastic spinning using frequency response method. Amplification ratios or gains of the spinline cross-sectional area at the take-up to any disturbances show resonant peaks along the frequency regime, where the frequencies at theme points directly correspond to the imaginary parts of the successive leading eigenvalues from the linear stability analysis. As shown in Jung et al. (1999) and Lee et al (2001), the sensitivity results on the effect of various process conditions such as spinline cooling and fluid viscoelasticity, obtained by dynamic transient simulation have been corroborated in this study. That is, increasing spinline cooling makes the system less sensitive to disturbances, thus stabilizes the spinning. Also, an increasing viscoelasticity for extension-thickening fluids decreases the sensitivity of the spinning. i.e., stabilizing the system, where, as it increases the sensitivity of the spinning of extension-thinning fluids. Furthermore, it has been found in the present study that the inertia force as one of secondary forces causes the system to be more stabile or less sensitive to process disturbances.

  • The effects of mixing speed (3, 6 and 10 speed) and time (2, 5 and 10 min) on the dynamic viscoelasticity of dough and the baking properties of gluten-free rice bread were investigated. The specific gravity of the dough was not affected by the mixing speed and time before and after fermentation. The elasticity (G') and viscosity (G") of the dough increased and the tan ${\delta}$ (G"/G') decreased with higher mixing speeds and longer mixing times. The specific volume of the gluten-free rice bread was affected by the mixing time in response surface methodology (RSM). The hardness of the gluten-free rice bread showed a decreasing trend as the specific volume for the gluten-free rice bread increased. The appearance of the gluten-free rice bread was symmetrical at high mixing speeds and long mixing times. Overall results indicated that the quality of gluten-free rice bread could be improved by controlling the mixing speeds and mixing times for the dough.

  • Mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete that accounts for viscoelasticity and damage evolution under cyclic loading conditions is modeled and presented in this paper. An elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle in terms of pseudo variables is applied to separately evaluate viscoelasticity and time-dependent damage growth in asphalt concrete. A microcrack growth law, which is commonly employed in linear viscoelastic fracture mechanics, is successfully used for describing the damage growth in the body. A constitutive equation in terms of stress and pseudo strain is first established for controlled-strain mode, and then transformed to controlled-stress constitutive equation by simply replacing stress and pseudo strain with pseudo stress and strain. The transformed constitutive equation in terms of pseudo stress satisfactorily predicts the mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete all the way up to failure under controlled-stress modes.

  • The sensitivity of the product to the ongoing sinusoidal disturbances of the process has been investigated in the film casting of viscoelastic polymer fluids using frequency response analysis. As demonstrated for fiber spinning process (Jung et al., 2002; Devereux and Denn, 1994), this frequency response analysis is useful for examining the process sensitivity and the stability of extensional deformation processes including film casting. The results of the present study reveal that the amplification ratios or gains of the process/product variables such as the cross-sectional area at the take-up to disturbances exhibit resonant peaks along the frequency regime as expected for the systems having hyperbolic characteristics with spilt boundary conditions (Friedly, 1972). The effects on the sensitivity results of two important parameters of film casting, i.e., the fluid viscoelasticity and the aspect ratio of the casting equipment have been scrutinized. It turns out that depending on the extension thinning or thickening nature of the fluid, increasing viscoelasticity results in enlargement or reduction of the sensitivity, respectively. As regards the aspect ratio, it has been found that an optimum value exists making the system least sensitive. The present study also confirms that the frequency response method produces results that corroborate well those by other methods like linear stability Analysis and transient solutions response. • This paper aimed to investigate the nonclassical size dependent free vibration behavior of regularly squared cutout viscoelastic nanobeams. The nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory is modified and adopted to incorporate the viscoelasticity effect. The Kelvin Voigt viscoelastic model is adopted to model the linear viscoelastic constitutive response. To explore the influence of shear deformation effect due to cutout, both Euler Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams theories are considered. The Hamilton principle is utilized to derive the dynamic equations of motion incorporating viscoelasticity and size dependent effects. Closed form solutions for the resonant frequencies for both perforated Euler Bernoulli nanobeams (PEBNB) and perforated Timoshenko nanobeams (PTNB) are derived considering different boundary conditions. The developed procedure is verified by comparing the obtained results with the available results in the literature. Parametric studies are conducted to show the influence of the material damping, the perforation, the material and the geometrical parameters as well as the boundary and loading conditions on the dynamic behavior of viscoelastic perforated nanobeams. The proposed procedure and the obtained results are supportive in the analysis and design of perforated viscoelastic NEMS structures.
