  • This paper presents the effects of a virtual mass on the stability boundary of a virtual spring in the haptic system with first-order-hold. The virtual rigid body is modeled as a virtual spring and a virtual mass. When first-order-hold is applied, we analyze the stability boundary of the virtual spring through the simulation according to the virtual mass and the sampling time. As the virtual mass increases, the stability boundary of the virtual spring gradually increases and then decreases after reaching the maximum value. The results are compared with the stability boundary in the haptic system with zero-order-hold. When a virtual mass is small, the stability boundary of a virtual spring in the system with first-order-hold is larger than that in the system with zero-order-hold.

  • Virtual reality technology is recognized as a next-generation technology and can create realistic environments like the real world and reproduce sensory experiences. And it is a cutting-edge technology that allows humans to experience the same real-world experience in a virtual world by computing the five senses with computers. Also Virtual reality is a technology that has the advantage of experiencing reality in cyberspace and is applied to content such as movies and games. However, many users who use virtual reality can feel cybersickness. And it especially in virtual reality games. This is an important issue for the virtual reality game industry to be resolved. Main symptoms of cyberscickness include dizziness, headache, and vomiting. Existing motion sickness and symptoms are similar, but the cause of cybersickness is different from traditional sickness. Therefore, this study uses virtual reality games and data from various organizations to determine the causes of cybersickness. Also, it intends to contribute to the development of the virtual reality game industry by presenting methods to supplement these problems.

  • In this paper, we have proposed an integrated aircraft development environment which can support virtual design and development for Systems Engineering and IPPD(Integrated Product and Process Development). We have also proposed the ViMS(Virtual Mockup System) which can perform a system design review on an integrated aircraft development environment. The ViMS is an integrated virtual design support system with immersive design review functionality to make a virtual mockup instead of a physical mockup through the virtual reality technology. The functionality of the ViMS consists design data management, design technology, design verification, and design assessment. We have described the detailed development artifact, case studies and conclusions of using the ViMS functionality.

  • In cloud computing infrastructure, current virtual machine trust measurement methods have many shortcomings in dynamism, security and concurrency. In this paper, we present a new method to measure the trust of virtual machine. Firstly, we propose "behavior trace" to describe the state of virtual machine. Behavior trace is a sequence of behaviors. The measurement of behavior trace is conducted on the basis of anticipated trusted behavior, which not only ensures security of the virtual machine during runtime stage but also reduces complexity of the trust measurement. Based on the behavior trace, we present a Dynamic Tree Style Trust Measurement Model (DTSTM). In this model, the measurement of system domain and user domain is separated, which enhances the extensibility, security and concurrency of the measurement. Finally, based on System Call Interceptor (SCI) and Virtual Machine Introspection (VMI) technology, we implement a DTSTM prototype system for virtual machine trust measurement. Experimental results demonstrate that the system can effectively verify the trust of virtual machine and requires a relatively low performance overhead.

  • Recently, high-performance HMDs (Head-Mounted Display) are becoming wireless due to the growth of virtual reality technology. Accordingly, environmental constraints on the hardware usage are reduced, enabling multiple users to experience virtual reality within a single space simultaneously. Existing multi-user virtual reality platforms use the user's location tracking and motion sensing technology based on vision sensors and active markers. However, there is a decrease in immersion due to the problem of overlapping markers or frequent matching errors due to the reflected light. Goal of this study is to develop a multi-user virtual reality moving platform in a single space that can resolve sensing errors and user immersion decrease. In order to achieve this goal hybrid sensing technology was developed, which is the convergence of vision sensor technology for position tracking, IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) sensor motion capture technology and gesture recognition technology based on smart gloves. In addition, integrated safety operation system was developed which does not decrease the immersion but ensures the safety of the users and supports multimodal feedback. A 6 m×6 m×2.4 m test bed was configured to verify the effectiveness of the multi-user virtual reality moving platform for four users.

  • This paper reviews and identifies issues in the application of virtual commissioning technology for automated manufacturing systems. While the real commissioning of a manufacturing system involves a real plant system and a real controller, the virtual commissioning deals with a virtual plant model and a real controller. The expected benefits of virtual commissioning are the reduction of debugging and correction efforts during the subsequent real commissioning stage. However, it requires a virtual plant model and hence still requires significant amount time and efforts. Two main issues are identified, the physical model construction of a virtual device, and the logical model construction of a virtual device. This paper reviews the current literature related to the two issues and proposes future research directions to achieve the full utilization of virtual commissioning technology.

  • Digital Virtual Manufacturing is a technology to facilitate effective product developments and agile productions by digital models representing the physical and logical schema and the behavior of real manufacturing systems including products, process, manufacturing resources and plants. A digital virtual factory as a well-designed and integrated environment is essential for successful applications of this technology. In this research, we constructed a sophisticated digital virtual factory of the shipbuilding company's section steel shop by 3-D CAD and virtual manufacturing simulation. This digital virtual factory can be applied for diverse engineering activities in design, manufacturing and control of the real factory.

  • For higher-level requirements of urban planning and management and the recent development of "digital earth" and "digital city", it is urgent to establish protocols for the construction of three-dimensional digital city models. However, some problems still exist in the digital technology of the three-dimensional city model, such as insufficient precision of the three-dimensional model, not optimizing the scene and not considering the constraints of building codes. In view of those points, a method to interactively simulate a virtual city scene based on building codes is proposed in this paper. Firstly, some constraint functions are set up to restrict the models to adhere to the building codes, and an improved directional bounding box technique is utilized to solve the problem that geometric objects may intersect in a virtual city scene. The three-dimensional model invocation strategy is designed to convert two-dimensional layouts to a three-dimensional urban scene. A Leap Motion hardware device is used to interactively place the 3D models in a virtual scene. Finally, the design and construction of the three-dimensional scene are completed by using Unity3D. The experiment shows that this method can simulate urban virtual scenes that strictly adhere to building codes in a virtual scene of the city environment, but also provide information and decision-making functions for urban planning and management.
