PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to assess the difference in the effect of provision of feedback on knowledge of performance and knowledge of result in the training using somesthetic video game aimed at enhancement of balance of hemiparalysis patients due to stroke. METHODS: 20 stroke patients participated in the study. The participants were randomly divided into 2 groups, namely, the knowledge of performance feedback group (KP group, n=10) and the knowledge of result feedback group (KR group, n=10). Both groups received somesthetic video game training 5 times (30 minutes each) a week for total of 4 weeks. The KP group received feedback on the patterns of movement in execution of somesthetic video game. The KR group received feedback on the scores acquired following execution of somesthetic video game. Verification of the significance of the data was performed through paired t-test and independent t-test. RESULTS: Both groups displayed significant reduction in the movement of center of pressure (COP) and Timed up and Go (TUG), and significant increase in the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) following the training. Although the movement of COP was reduced for the KP group in comparison to the KR group, it was not statistically significant, and there was significant reduction in TUG and significant increase in BBS. CONCLUSION: The above results illustrate that provision of feedback on knowledge of performance is more effective than feedback on knowledge of result in somesthetic video game training for the purpose of enhancement of balance in stroke patients. Therefore, provision of feedback on knowledge of performance is necessary in somesthetic video game training for stroke patients.
In this paper, we investigate the effect of asynchronous haptic and video feedback on the performance of teleoperation. To analyze the effect, a tele-manipulation experiment is specially designed, which operator moves square objects from one place to another place by using master/slave telerobotic system. Task completion time and total number of falling of the object are used for evaluating the performance. Subjective study was conducted with 10 subjects in 16 different combinations of video and haptic feedback while participants didn't have any prior information about the amount of each delay. Initially we assume that synchronized haptic and video feedback would give best performance. However as a result, we found that the accuracy was increased when haptic and video feedback was synchronized, and the completion time was decreased when one of the feedback (either haptic or video) was decreased. Another interesting fact that we found in this experiment is that it showed even better accuracy when haptic information arrives little bit earlier than video information, than the case when those are synchronized.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to compare confidence in practice of intermittent gavage tube feeding and participants' satisfaction by three types of feedback; professor verbal feedback, professor feedback with smartphone video, and peer feedback with smartphone video. In addition, frequently failed items in the intermittent gavage tube feeding procedure were analyzed. Methods: Data were collected from a convenience sample of 78 nursing college students in November 2014. Students were randomly assigned to the control group, experimental group I (smartphone video with professor feedback) or group II (smartphone video with peer feedback). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including chi-square test, ANOVA, and Scheffe test with SPSS 21.0. Results: Confidence in practice of intermittent gavage tube feeding and satisfaction with feedback were highest in experimental group I that had professor feedback with smartphone video. For the procedure, the most frequently failed item was giving an explanation to patients about the purpose and the procedure of tube feeding. Conclusion: The results indicate that professor verbal feedback with smartphone video is the most benefit to the nursing students in acquiring core nursing practice skills.

In this paper, we propose a hybrid Wyner-Ziv video coding structure that combines conventional motion predictive video coding and Wyner-Ziv video coding to eliminate the feedback channel, which is a major practical problem in applications using the Wyner-Ziv video coding approach. The proposed method divides a hybrid frame into two regions. One is coded by a motion predictive video coder, and the other by the Wyner-Ziv coding method. The proposed encoder estimates side information with low computational complexity, using the coding information of the motion predictive coded region, and estimates the number of syndrome bits required to decode the region. The decoder generates side information using the same method as the encoder, which also reduces the computational complexity in the decoder. Experimental results show that the proposed method can eliminate the feedback channel without incurring a significant rate-distortion performance loss.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of peer feedback on nursing students using videos filmed during the catheterization procedure. Method: The study was a structured nonequivalent group, pretest-posttest design. The experimental group was filmed performing foley catheterization. After the procedure, the group video review followed and peer feedback was provided. Results: The experimental group had a higher mean score in learning motivation than the control group. However, the differences in learning attitude and self efficacy were not statistically significant. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that video-aided peer feedback was effective in enhancing students' motivation to learn psychomotor skills.
In distributed video coding (DVC) systems, the complexity of encoders is greatly reduced by removing the motion estimation operations in encoders, since the correlation between frames is utilized in decoders. The transmission of parity bits is requested through the feedback channel, until the related errors are corrected to decode the Wyner-Ziv frames. The requirement to use the feedback channel limits the application of DVC systems. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to remove the feedback channel in DVC systems. First, a simple side information generation method is proposed to calculate the amount of parity bits in the encoder, and it is shown that the proposed method yields good performance with low complexity. Then, by calibrating the theoretical entropy with three parameters, we can calculate the amount of parity bits in the encoder and remove the feedback channel. Moreover, an adaptive method to determine quantization parameters for key frames is proposed. Extensive computer simulations show that the proposed method yields better performance than conventional methods.
Purpose: A meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate effectiveness of education programs using video recording and feedback in the improvement of competency in clinical skills for health care majors. Methods: Six databases were searched and inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or non-randomized controlled trials (NRTs) reporting level of skill competency using numerical measurements. Data analysis and synthesis were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software and Revman program. Results: Of 1,568 records, 11 studies met inclusion criteria. Statistically significant effectiveness of education programs using video recording and feedback was identified. A low risk of bias was detected among both RCTs and NRTs. Meta-analysis showed that the intervention groups had more effective improvements in skill competency (standardized mean difference [SMD]: 0.74; 95% CI: 0.33~1.16). Results of subgroup analysis showed higher effects when interventions dealt with one skill, used self-reflection with expert feedback, and included instruction from instructor in the education programs. Conclusion: Findings suggest that schools for health care majors should actively adopt video and feedback based skill training allowing educators to design effective programs. Potential is higher for students to achieve higher competency when they train with one skill at a time, use of instruction and receive feedback from experts.

In this paper, we propose an efficient configuration of a system for the remote control of a mobile robot. The interface has a video feedback and runs in standard web environments. For control servers of mobile robot and CCD camera, we use the environment with embedded web server Specific program has been developed in order to grab the images using Microsoft Visual C++ The external camera sends the video signal to a framegrabber in the PC, then this program grabs the images and puts them in shared memory in BMP format. For a video feedback, we use image feedback based on the client pull technique supported by Netscape and Internet Explorer.
