  • This paper describes a VLSI implementation of real-time two dimensional DCT processor for the subprimary rate video codec system. The proposed architecture exploits the parallelism and concurrency of the distributes architecture for vector inner product operation of DCT and meets the CCITT performance requirements of video codec for full CSIF 30 frames/sec. It is also shown that this architecture satisfies all the CCITT IDCT accuracy specification by simulating the suggested architecture in bit level. The efficient VLSI disign methodology to design suggested architecture is considered and the module generator oriented design environments are constructed based on SUN 3/150C workstation. Using the constructed design environments. the suggensted architecture have been designed by double metal 2micron CMOS technology. The chip area fo designed 8x8 2-D DA-DCT (Distributed Arithmetic DCT) processor is about 3.9mmx4.8mm.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-view video codec for 3DTV system. The proposed algorithm is not only to reduce the temporal and spatial redundancy but also to reduce the redundancy among each view. With these results, we can improve the coding efficiency for multi-view video sequences. In order to reduce the redundancy of each view more efficiently, we define the assembled image(AI) that is generated by the global disparity compensation of each view. In addition, the proposed algorithm is based on MPEG-2 structure so that we can easily implement 3DTV system without changing the conventional 2D digital TV system. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs very well. It also performs better than MPEG-2 simulcast coding method. The newly proposed codec also supports the view scalability, accurate temporal synchronization among multiple views and random access capability in view dimension.

  • The DVC (Distributed Video Coding) provides a theoretical basis for the implementation of light video encoder. Conventionally, lots of studies have been focused on the codec scheme of Stanford University that has a feedback channel to control the bit rate finely. However, the codec scheme can not evaluate the qualities of the frames reconstructed by the received parity bits at the decoder side. This paper presents an efficient method of estimating distortion by correcting the virtual channel noises in side information and then facilitating the measurements of the visual qualities. Through several simulations, it is shown that the proposed method is very efficient in estimating the visual qualities of the reconstructed WZ frames.

  • Video quality is degraded by codec and transmission error. By analyses video pattern through NR(no reference) method, we get to aware that telephony video has particular blocking and blurring pattern and NR is suitable for telephony video quality testing. So NR will make contribution to enhancing video quality and monitoring video quality in advance.

  • MPEG-VCM(Video Coding for Machine) aims to standardize video codec for machines. VCM provides data sets and anchors, which provide reference data for comparison, for several machine vision tasks including object detection, object segmentation, and object tracking. The evaluation template can be used to compare compression and machine vision task performance between anchor data and various proposed video codecs. However, performance comparison is carried out separately for each machine vision task, and information related to performance evaluation of multiple machine vision tasks on a single bitstream is not provided currently. In this paper, we propose a performance evaluation method of a video codec for AI-based multi-tasks. Based on bits per pixel (BPP), which is the measure of a single bitstream size, and mean average precision(mAP), which is the accuracy measure of each task, we define three criteria for multi-task performance evaluation such as arithmetic average, weighted average, and harmonic average, and to calculate the multi-tasks performance results based on the mAP values. In addition, as the dynamic range of mAP may very different from task to task, performance results for multi-tasks are calculated and evaluated based on the normalized mAP in order to prevent a problem that would be happened because of the dynamic range.

  • A multiview sequence CODEC with view scaiability is proposed in this paper. We define a GGOP (Group of GOP) structure as a basic coding unit to efficiently code multiview sequences. 7he proposed CODEC provides flexible GGOP structures based on the number of views and baseline distances among cameras. Multiview sequences encode consists of disparity estimation/compensation, motion estimation/compensation, residual coding and rate control and generates multiview sequence bitstream. The main bitstream is the same as an MPEG-2 mono-sequence bitstream for MPEG-2 compatibility. The auxiliary bitstream contains information concerning the remaining multiview sequences except for the reference sequences. The proposed CODEC with view scalability provides that a number of view flints are selectively determined at the receiver according to the type of display modes. The proposed multiview sequence CODEC is tested with several multiview sequences to determine its flexibility. compatibility with MPEG-2 and view scaiability. In addition, we subjectively confirm that the decoded bitstreams with view scaiability can be Properly displayed by several types of display modes. including 3D monitors.

  • A design for the merge mode of three dimensional High Efficiency Video Coding (3D-HEVC) is proposed in this paper. The proposed design can reduce the implementation complexity by removing the duplicated modules of the HEVC. For the extension codec, the implementation complexity is as crucial as coding efficiency, meaning if possible, extension codec needs to be easily implemented through by reusing the design of the legacy codec as-is. However, the existing merging process of 3D-HEVC had been built-in integrated in the inside of the HEVC merging process. Thus the duplicated merging process of HEVC had to be fully re-implemented in the 3D-HEVC. Consequently the implementation complexity of the extension codec was very high. The proposed 3D-HEVC merge mode is divided into following two stages; the process to reuse the HEVC modules without any modification; and the reprocessing process for newly added and modified merging modules in 3D-HEVC. By applying the proposed method, the re-implemented HEVC modules, which accounted for 51.4% of 3D-HEVC merge mode confirmed through the operational analysis of algorithm, can be eliminated, while maintaining the same coding efficiency and computational complexity.

  • This paper presents the infectious watermarking model (IWM) for the protection of video contents that are based on biological virus modeling by the infectious route and procedure. Our infectious watermarking is designed as a new paradigm protection for video contents, regarding the hidden watermark for video protection as an infectious virus, video content as host, and codec as contagion medium. We used pathogen, mutant, and contagion as the infectious watermark and defined the techniques of infectious watermark generation and authentication, kernel-based infectious watermarking, and content-based infectious watermarking. We experimented with our watermarking model by using existing watermarking methods as kernel-based infectious watermarking and content-based infectious watermarking medium, and verified the practical applications of our model based on these experiments.

  • This paper proposes a detection algorithm of video tampering by investigating the change of HEVC coding pattern. When a part of video is deleted and re-compressed, the characteristic patterns are generated by forgery. The proposed algorithm uses these patterns to classify whether video is forged. Experimental results show that the proposed method detects video forgery effectively.

  • A subjective video quality assessment methods are proposed based on CCIR Rec. 500-5 for an evaluation and testing of compressed video quality and performance of video codec to be designed in accordance with the MPEG-2 MP ML specification which is adapted as a DTV standard for Korea digital DBS. Video sequence compressed in compliance with MPEG-2 MP ML encoding parameterswastested by the proposed video quality evaluation procedure. Test sequence were compressed at the bit rate 6Mbps, 7.5Mbps and 9Mbps, repectively. Test results of the 7.5Mbps bitrate showed a satisfactory picture quality at about 4.0 on the 5.0 absolute scale of ITU-R 500-5.
