  • Accurate simulation of jet plume exhausting into the open space as well as onto the opposing wall is of interest both numerically and physically; the latter, from a system designer's point of view. In the current work, Navier-Stokes computation is undertaken to capture the flow pattern of a supersonic jet impinging onto a rectangular duct which deflects the vertical jet horizontally. Of particular interest are the flow structure in the jet exhaust area, pressure pattern and the magnitude of pressure force at the bottom wall. Usefulness of present characteristic boundary condition applied at the exiting plane of the duct is demonstrated by capturing such complex flow structures for different lengths of the deflection duct.

  • This study develops a new hybrid passive energy dissipation device for seismic rehabilitation of an existing structure. The device is composed of a friction damper combined with a steel plate with vertical slits as a hysteretic damper. Analytical model is developed for the device, and the capacity of the hybrid device to satisfy a given target performance is determined based on the ASCE/SEI 7-10 process. The effect of the device is verified by nonlinear dynamic analyses using seven earthquake records. The analysis results show that the dissipated inelastic energy is concentrated on the hybrid damper and the maximum interstory drift of the SMRF with damping system satisfies the requirement of the current code.

  • To increase speed up of train, in the field of catenary system, it is necessary to develop of new monitoring methods for dynamic interaction between pantograph and contact wire. Also, there is a need to develop technologies that constantly measure are from various railway structure such as uplift of contact wire, vibration of catenary, dynamic strain of contact line in tunnel. In this paper condition monitoring systems for dynamic performance of catenary systems in tunnel were proposed. An advanced method and results of field tests using high speed camera for monitoring of vertical upward movement of the grooved contact wire due to the force produced from the pantograph were presented. The proposed uplift measurement system of contact wire is expected to enhance precision of current collection quality performance assessment methods at high-speed lines.

Nonlinear Aeroelastic Analysis of a High-Aspect-Ratio Wing with Large Deflection Effects

  • In this study, nonlinear static and dynamic aeroelastic analyses for a high-aspect-ratio wing have been performed. To achieve these aims, the transonic small disturbance (TSD) theory for the aerodynamic analysis and the large deflection beam theory considering a geometrical nonlinearity for the structural analysis are applied, respectively. For the coupling between fluid and structure, the transformation of a displacement from the structural mesh to the aerodynamic grid is performed by a shape function which is used for the finite element and the inverse transformation of force by work equivalent load method. To validate the current method, the present analysis results of a high-aspect-ratio wing are compared with the experimental results. Static deformations in the vertical and torsional directions caused by an angle of attack and gravity loading are compared with experimental results. Also, static and dynamic aeroelastic characteristics are investigated. The comparisons of the flutter speed and frequency between a linear and nonlinear analysis are presented.

  • This paper presents a analysis solutions for the general class of iron-cored Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PMLSM) with vertical topologies. In our design and analysis, rotor consisting of permanent magnets and slot less iron-cored coil stator are treated in a uniform way via vector potential. For one such motor structure, we give analytical formulas for its magnetic field by permanent magnet and current coil and variation of the Back-EMF and magnetization inductance according to coil turns.

내진 천장시스템의 실규모 진동대 실험 및 해석 (Full-Scale Shaking Table Test and Analysis of Seismic Ceiling Systems)

  • In the current research, a seismic ceiling system as one of non-structural elements in buildings has been developed by applying newly designed vertical hanger clips combined with M-bar channel clips. In order to evaluate the seismic performance of the developed system, full-scale shaking table tests of one story frame structure with the conventional ceiling system or the developed seismic ceiling system were performed with time-history responses under earthquake loads. The developed system was also evaluated by the time-history dynamic analysis. From seismic test and analysis, it was shown that the developed seismic ceiling system could give improved seismic performances to minimize displacements and damages of ceiling systems as well as enhance seismic safety of the ceiling system.

Numerical study on the effects of seismic torsional component on multistory buildings

  • In this paper, the influence of the rotational component, about a vertical axis, of earthquake ground motion on the response of building structures subjected to seismic action is considered. The torsional component of ground motion is generated from the records of translational components. Torsional component of ground motion is then, together with translational components, applied in numerical linear dynamic analysis of different reinforced concrete framed structure of three stories buildings. In total, more than 40 numerical models were created and analyzed. The obtained results show clearly the dependence of the effects of the torsional seismic component on structural system and soil properties. Thus, the current approach in seismic codes of accounting for the effects of accidental torsion due to the torsional ground motion, by shifting the center of mass, should be reevaluated.

  • This paper presents the method to provide a fast service for user in image manipulation such as zooming and panning of huge size high resolution satellite image(e.g. Giga bytes per scene). The proposed technique is based on the hierarchical structure that has 3D-Tiling in horizontal and vertical direction to provide the image service more effectively than 2D-Tiling technique in the past does. The essence of the proposed technique is to create tiles of optimum level in real time on the basis of current displaying area, which change as user manipulates huge image. Consequently, this technique provides seamless service, and will be very powerful and useful for manipulation of images of huge size without data conversion.

하구언 수문작동으로 인한 금강 하구역의 물리적 환경변화: II. 염분구조와 하구유형 (Physical Environment Changes in the Keum River Estuary by the Dyke Gate Operation: II. Salinity Structure and Estuary Type)

  • 금강하구언 수문작동이후 물성구조와 하구유형을 조사하기 위하여 1997년 6월, 7월 및 10월, 1998년 5월과 7윌에 CTD와 조류관측을 하였다. 조석과 조류의 관계는 고조전에 조류가 전류되어 낙조가 창조보다 1.5시간 정도 길다. 풍수기에는(5월부터 7월) 낙조시에 하구언에서 담수를 간헐적으로 대량 방류하여 하구 상류쪽의 수직적 염분차이와 염분의 시간변화가 커지고 하계 홍수시 2‰ 미만의 염분이 나타난다. 유출담수에 의한 염분약층의 발달로 2층구조를 보이며, 약층의 세기와 깊이는 저조시에 증가한다. 조석위상과 표층염분 변화의 관계는 히구 상류쪽에서 약 2.5 시간의 위상차이를 보이나 하구 하류쪽에서는 정상파 관계를 보인다. 하구 상류쪽에서의 위상차이는 낙조시 2~3시간 정도 방류된 담수에 의해 생성된 저염수가 조류에 의해 이동된 것을 의미한다. 갈수기에는 수직염분차이가 현저히 줄어든다. 관측된 표층유속과 염분구조 및 담수방류량을 사용하여 성층계수, 순환계수를 산출하였다. 금강하구는 부분혼합형 하구이고 풍수기와 갈수기에 따라 성층계수가 달라진다. 관측된 조류의 평균적 흐름은 상층에서 바다쪽으로, 저층에서 육지쪽으로 향하여 부분혼합형 하구의 전형적 순환형태와 일치하였다. 이러한 하구언 수문작동 후의 금강하구 유형과 순환은 하구역에서 저층부유사가 상류쪽으로 이동하며 퇴적되는 환경임을 제시한다.

Ni-P 합금의 전기전도도와 경도에 대한 도금 조건의 영향 (Effect of Electroplating Parameters on Conductivity and Hardness of Ni-P Alloy)

  • Pulse electroplating of Ni-P alloy was studied to fulfill the material requirement to the advanced vertical probe tip in wafer probe card. The major concerns are for the electrical conductivity and yield strength. Plating parameters such as current density, duty cycle and solution components were examined to obtain the nanocrystal structure and proper percentage of phosphorus, leading to how to control the nanocrystal grain growth and precipitation of $Ni_3P$ after heat treatment. Among the parameters, the amount of phosphorus acid was the main factor affecting on the grain size and sheet resistance, and the amount of 0.1 gram was appropriate. Since hardness in Ni-P alloy is increased by as-plated nanocrystal structure plus precipitation of $Ni_3P$, the concentration of P less than 15 at% was better choice for the grain coarsening without minus in hardness value. The following heat treatment made grain growth and dispersion of precipitates adjustable to meet the target limit of resistance of $100m{\Omega}$ and hardness number of over 1000Hv. The Ni-P alloy will be a candidate for the substitute of the conventional probe tip material.
