  • The operation of vending machine system presents a decision-making problem which consists of determining the product allocation to vending-machine storage compartments, replenishment intervals of vending machines, and vehicle routes, all of which have critical effects on system profit. Especially, it becomes more difficult to determine the operation variables optimally when demand for a product that is out-of-stock spills over to another product or is lost. In this paper, we propose a heuristic for solving the operation problem of the vending machine system and evaluate it by comparing with Yang's algorithm on various test problems with respect to system profit via a computer simulation. The results of computational experiments show a substantial profit increase of the proposed heuristic over Yang's algorithm. Sensitivity analysis indicates that some input variables impact the profit increase significantly.

  • The purposes of this study was to investigate importance and performance for coffee quality attributes in Korean and Chinese university students by 3 types of coffee; coffee in coffee houses, coffee in vending machines and canned/bottled coffee. Survey was done for 360 students in Daejeon with developed questionnaires including general information, favorite type of coffee and 15 quality attributes of coffee. Finally, data from 168 Korean and 126 Chinese university students was used for statistical analysis by SPSS 18.0 package program. Results of this study were as follows: for favorite type of coffee, the rates of coffee in coffee houses, coffee in vending machines and canned/bottled coffee were 43.0% 34.8% and 22.2% in Korean students and 8.7%, 78.0%, and 12.2% in Chinese students, respectively. Comparing Chinese students and Korean students showed higher importance for several quality attributes of coffee in coffee house (p < 0.05), but lower importance for most quality-attributes of coffee in vending machine (p < 0.05) and canned/bottled coffee (p < 0.05). According to importance and performance analysis, strategies for increasing satisfaction were to improve 'price' of canned/bottled coffee in Korean students, and 'taste', 'volume', 'concentration' and 'variety' of canned/bottled coffee and 'freshness' of coffee in vending machine in Chinese students. These results suggested that differentiated marketing plans between Korean and Chinese university students should be needed in coffee industry.

  • The article considers the peculiarities of developing a marketing strategy for the adaptation of small businesses to quarantine restrictions in the field of commercial entrepreneurship. The importance of reformatting the existing marketing strategy in connection with the change of key conditions of trade activity with the introduction of quarantine restrictions due to the covid19 virus epidemic is substantiated. Quarantine restrictions and the temporary introduction of lockdown in various countries around the world, including Ukraine, have not only caused a crisis for small businesses. But they became a shock therapy and accelerated the digitalization of retail. Trends in digitalization and development of digital infrastructure allow both to adapt the structures of commercial entrepreneurship to the current conditions, and set directions for development in the long run. Particular attention in the article is paid to changing the business model and automation of sales processes based on the introduction of vending. The preconditions and existing experience of vending in Ukraine are analyzed. An outline of the business model of the project for the sale of goods through vending machines has been developed.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare Fast foods and Soft drinks consumption of Korean adolescents in a large city, a medium city, and a rural area. Methods: This was a descriptive comparative survey using a convenience sample of 2,261 8th and 11th grade students. The data were analyzed by X2-test and ANOVA using SPSS 10.0 statistical program. Results: For fast food consumptions, the higher in a large city than in a medium city and a rural area(p=.000). For soft drinks in a school, cafeteria or vending machines was higher in a large city and a medium city then in a rural area(p=.000). For eating snacks including cookies and popcorns was higher among students in a rural area than those in a medium city and large city(p=.008). Conclusions: 1. Overall, the health information among rural students is lower than those among other areas, as well as taking a health education course among rural students is also lower. Thus, the health inequality by regional differences should be considered. To decrease health inequality among different regions, health professionals who can systematically teach a health education course for middle and high school students and undertake students' health are needed. 2. Soft drinks sold in schools are higher in a large city and medium city than in a rural area. Therefore, there is a need of strong regulations and policies about the restriction of soft drinks sold in vending machines or school cafeterias.

  • There are some rebate programs for energy efficient appliances, which are lightings, vending machines, ASDs, motors, transformers, pumps, to reduce national energy consumption in Korea. Among these appliances, motors are of the essential target in the programs because these take about 64% of electrical energy consumption nationally. In this paper reasonable rebate levels are proposed using an advanced diffusion model and avoided cost analyses.

  • There are some rebate programs for energy efficient appliances, which are lightings, vending machines, ASDs, motors, transformers, pumps, to reduce national energy consumption in Korea. In existing studies, some diffusion models have been applied to the rebate program case. But those studies could not consider various cases in duration, amounts, whether or not, of rebates. Hence, new diffusion models considering the time-variant diffusion status are proposed for high-efficient appliance rebate programs in this paper. The case study shows the application of these model into some high-efficient appliances.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest an improvement plan for the waterfront by conducting an empirical analysis of users of the city's waterfront. For this purpose, this study conducted a field investigation and questionnaire survey on the waterfront of Sincheon, Daegu Metropolitan City. Based on this, this study investigated the importance and satisfaction levels of environmental factors according to the purpose of using the waterfront and proposed the improvement plans through an ISA(Importance-Satisfaction Analysis). The analysis results are as follows. In the case of using the waterfront for exercise, 'The division of bicycle trails and promenades' had the highest level of importance, while satisfaction level for items with 'Convenience facilities such as vending machines, toilets and water fountains' was found to be the lowest. In the case of using the waterfront for leisure and relaxation, 'Tree shade' had the highest level of importance, and the satisfaction level of the item on 'Whether to hold events such as exhibitions' was lowest. The ISA results showed that when the waterfront was used for the purpose of exercise, leisure and relaxation, items such as 'Convenience facilities such as vending machines, toilets and water fountains', 'Cleanliness of space and water quality' and 'Water quality management' had a high level of importance, but had a low level of satisfaction, which suggests that they should be improved on a preferential basis. Next, items requiring intensive improvement for exercise purposes were 'Tree shade', 'Rest facilities such as benches and pergolas', 'Width of bicycle trails and promenades' and 'The division of bicycle trails and promenades'. Leisure and relaxation found that 'Lighting facilities' require improvement. It is expected that if a river improvement project is implemented based on the above results, effective financial commitment and investment will be made.

  • Little information is available for emission pathway even if HFC-134a that is known as one of the major greenhouse gases has been broadly used in Korea. This paper attempts to clarify the emission characteristics of HFC-134a used for refrigerant of cold drinking vending machines (CDVMs) at the use- and disposal-phase. We measured the residual amounts in the scrap CDVMs of 47 by applying commercial recover for refrigerant. The first-order kinetic model was introduced and the emission rate would be proportional to the remaining quantity of refrigerant. The emission factor at the use-phase was determined indirectly to be $6.9{\pm}0.7$ %/yr within a confidence interval of 95%, using information on residual amount and elapsed operation time at the disposal point. Correspondingly, the annual emission rate of HFC-134a per CDVM was determined to be 11.6 g. The average residual rate of HFC-134a in scrap CDVMs was assessed to be $62.5{\pm}2.2%$, leading to a potential emission amount of 144.8 g per scrap CDVM. The chemical compositions of refrigerants from scrap passenger vehicles are quite similar to those of new refrigerants, suggesting that the refrigerants from scrap passenger vehicles could be reused. During the recovering process of refrigerant, the recovered refrigerant was contaminated by compressor lubricant that accounted for about 30% in weight. It is necessary to separate the refrigerant from the recovered material contaminated by lubricant for recycling and reuse the refrigerant.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the status of coffee intake in South Korea by analyzing the 4th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The results showed that 52.3% of Koreans consumed coffee at least once a day. Males consumed coffee more frequently than females and those aged 20-39 years and 40-59 years consumed coffee most frequently. Coffee drinkers consumed coffee two times a day and 138 mL each time on average. Coffee was mainly consumed either at home (44.8%) or in the workplace (36.1%); males drank coffee most frequently in the workplace and females did so at home. Milk coffee including coffee from vending machines and coffee mix (73.8%) was the most common type of coffee consumed. The results of this study would extend the understanding of the general status of coffee intake in South Korea, which has shown steady growth but remains a relatively overlooked research area.
