  • This paper presents a new approach to the dynamic control technique for track vehicle system using neural network-fuzzy control method. The proposed control scheme uses a Gaussian function as a unit function in the neural network-fuzzy, and back propagation algorithm to train the fuzzy-neural network controller in the framework of the specialized learning architecture. It is proposed a learning controller consisting of two neural network-fuzzy based on independent reasoning and a connection net with fixed weights to simply the neural networks-fuzzy. The performance of the proposed controller is shown by simulation for trajectory tracking of the speed and azimuth of a track vehicle.

  • This paper proposes a method of localization of vehicle especially the horizontal position for the purpose of recognizing the driving lane. Through tracking road signs, the relative position between the vehicle and the sign is calculated and the absolute position is obtained using the known information from the regulation for installation. The proposed method uses Kalman filter for road sign tracking and analyzes the motion using the pinhole camera model. In order to classify the road sign, ORB(Oriented fast and Rotated BRIEF) features from the input image and DB are matched. From the absolute position of the vehicle, the driving lane is recognized. The Experiments are performed on videos from the highway driving and the results shows that the proposed method is able to compensate the common GPS localization errors.

  • This article describes the system architecture of KUVE (KIST Unmanned Vehicle Electric) and unmanned autonomous navigation of it in KIST. KUVE, which is an electric light-duty vehicle, is equipped with two laser range finders, a vision camera, a differential GPS system, an inertial measurement unit, odometers, and control computers for autonomous navigation. KUVE estimates and tracks the boundary of road such as curb and line using a laser range finder and a vision camera. It follows predetermined trajectory if there is no detectable boundary of road using the DGPS, IMU, and odometers. KUVE has over 80% of success rate of autonomous navigation in KIST.

Research and Development Trends of a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV) (극초음속 활공 비행체(HGV)의 연구개발 동향)

  • The hypersonic glide vehicle ascends to a high altitude by a rocket booster, separates it from the booster, and glides at a hypersonic speed of Mach 5 or higher at an altitude of about 30~70 km, changing its direction in the atmosphere. Since it moves on an unpredictable flight path rather than a parabolic trajectory, it is difficult to intercept with current missile defense systems. The U.S. conducted HTV-2 and AHW flight tests in the early 2010s to confirm the possibility of hypersonic gliding flights, and recently it has been developing hypersonic glide vehicle systems such as LRHW and ARRW. China has conducted several flight tests of the DF-ZF (WU-14) glide vehicle since 2014 and has been operating it with DF-17 missiles. Russia has conducted hypersonic glide vehicle research since the former Soviet Union, but it has repeatedly failed, and recently it has been successfully tested with the Avangard (Yu-71) glide vehicle mounted on the SS-19 ICBM. In this paper, the characteristics, flight test cases, and development trends of hypersonic glide vehicles developed or currently being developed in the United States, China, Russia, Japan, India, and Europe are reviewed and summarized.

Trajectory and Attitude Control for a Lunar lander Using a Reference Model (2nd Report)

  • In this paper, a redesigned guidance and control system for a lunar lander is presented. In past studies, the authors developed a trajectory and attitude control system which achieves the vertical soft landing on the lunar surface. It is confirmed that the system has a good tracking ability to a predefined profile and good robustness against a thruster failure mode where a partial failure of clustered engines was assumed. However, under the previous control laws, the landing point tends to be shifted, in response to the system parameter values, from a target point. Also, an unbalanced moment due to a thruster failure mode was not considered in the simulation. Therefore, in this study, the downrange control is added to the system to enable the vehicle to land at a pre-assigned target point accurately. Furthermore, inhibiting the effect of the unbalanced moment is attempted thorough redesigning the attitude control system. A numerical simulation was performed to confirm the ability of the proposed system with regard to the above problems. Moreover, in the past simulations, a low initial altitude was assumed as an initial condition: in this study, however, the performance of the proposed system is examined over the whole trajectory from an initial altitude of 10 [km] to the lunar surface.

  • A trajectory analysis program is developed using a 3DOF trajectory model for the performance analysis of geostationary launch vehicles by system options. Launch trajectory and the performance of injection at GTO was estimated using this program for several propellant options, engine types, number of engines and the location of launch site. Results of the analysis presents that the possibility of mission accomplishment by several design options using domestic launch sites and the development direction of GEO launch vehicles.

Conceptual Design Trade Offs between Solid and Liquid Propulsion for Optimal Stage Configuration of Satellite Launch Vehicle

  • The foremost criterion in the design of a Satellite Launch Vehicle(SLV) is its performance capability to boost the designated payload to the desired mission orbit; it starts from focusing on the SLV configuration to achieve the velocity requirements($}\Delta}V$) for the mission. In this paper we review an analytical approach which is suitable enough for preliminary conceptual design and is used previously to optimize stage configurations for Two Stage to Orbit SLV for Low Earth Orbit(LEO) Missions; we have extended this approach to Three Stage to Orbit SLV and compared different propellant options for the mission. The objective is to minimize the Gross Lift off Weight(GLOW). The primary performance figures of merit were the total inert weight of the SLV and the payload weight that the SLV could lift into LEO, given candidate propulsion systems. The optimization is achieved by configuring the $}\Delta}V$ between stages. A comparison of configurations of single-stage and multi-stage SLVs is made for different propellants. Based upon the optimized stage configurations a comparative performance analysis is made between Liquid and Solid fueled SLV. A 3 degree of freedom trajectory-analysis program is modeled in SIMULINK and used to conduct the performance analysis. Furthermore, a cost analysis is performed on our stage optimized SLVs. The cost estimation relationships(CER) used give us a comparison of development and fabrication costs for the Liquid vs. Solid fueled SLV in man years. The pros and cons of the production, operation ability, performance, responsiveness, logistics, price, shelf life, storage etc of both Solid and Liquid fueled SLVs are discussed. The statistics and data are used from existing or historical(real) SLV stages.

Shared Vehicle Teleoperation using a Virtual Driving Interface (가상 운전 인터페이스를 활용한 자동차 협력 원격조종)

  • In direct vehicle teleoperation, a human operator drives a vehicle at a distance through a pair of master and slave device. However, if there is time delay, it is difficult to remotely drive the vehicle due to slow response. In order to address this problem, we introduced a novel methodology of shared vehicle teleoperation using a virtual driving interface. The methodology was developed with four components: 1) virtual driving environment, 2) interface for virtual driving environment, 3) path generator based on virtual driving trajectory, 4) path following controller. Experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed approach in simple and cluttered driving environment as well. In the experiments, we compared two sampling methods, fixed sampling time and user defined instant, and finally merged method showed best remote driving performance in term of completion time and number of collision.

Development of Accident Analysis Model in Car to Pedestrian Accident (차 대 보행자 충돌 시 사고해석 모델 개발)

  • The fatalities of pedestrian account for about 21.2% of all fatalities at 2007 year in Korea. To reconstruct exactly the accident, it is important to calculate the throw distance of pedestrian in car to pedestrian accident. The frontal shape of SUV vehicle is dissimilar to passenger car and bus, so the trajectory and throw distance of pedestrian by SUV vehicle is not the same of passenger car and bus. The influencing on it can be classified into the factors of vehicle and pedestrian, and road factor. It was analyzed by PC-CRASH for simulation, and SPSS s/w was used for regression analysis. From the simulation results, the maximum impact energy of multi-body of pedestrian was occurred to that of torso body at the same time. And the throw distance increased with the increasing of impact velocity, and decreased with the increasing of impact offset. Also it decreased with the increasing of velocity of pedestrian at accident, and the throw distance of wet road was longer than that of dry road. Finally, the regression analysis model of SUV(Nissan Pathfinder type)vehicle in car to pedestrian accident was as follows; $$disti_i=-0.87-0.11offseti_i+0.69speed_i-4.27height_i+0.004walk_i+0.63wet_i+{\epsilon}_i$$.
