  • A vehicle adaptive cruise control strategy based on human drivers' driving characteristics has been investigated. Human drivers driving characteristics have been analyzed using vehicle test data obtained from 125 participants. The control algorithm has been designed to incorporate the driving characteristics of the human drivers and to achieve natural vehicle behavior of the controlled vehicle that would reduce the workload of the human driver. Vehicle following characteristics of the cruise controlled vehicle have been compared to real-world driving radar sensor data of human drivers using a validated vehicle simulator. and compare nominal cruise control and adaptive cruise control.

  • A steady-state/transient performance simulation model was newly developed for the propulsion system of the CRW (Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) during flight mode transition. The CRW type UAV has a new concept RPV (Remotely Piloted Vehicle) which can fly at two flight modes such as the take-off/landing and low speed forward flight mode using the rotary wing driven by engine bypass exhaust gas and the high speed forward flight mode using the stopped wing and main engine thrust. The propulsion system of the CRW type UAV consists of the main engine system and the duct system. The flight vehicle may generally select a proper type and specific engine with acceptable thrust level to meet the flight mission in the propulsion system design phase. In this study, a turbojet engine with one spool was selected by decision of the vehicle system designer, and the duct system is composed of main duct, rotor duct, master valve, rotor tip-jet nozzles, and variable area main nozzle. In order to establish the safe flight mode transition region of the propulsion system, steady-state and transient performance simulation should be needed. Using this simulation model, the optimal fuel flow schedules were obtained to keep the proper surge margin and the turbine inlet temperature limitation through steady-state and transient performance estimation. Furthermore, these analysis results will be used to the control optimization of the propulsion system, later. In the transient performance model, ICV (Inter-Component Volume) model was used. The performance analysis using the developed models was performed at various flight conditions and fuel flow schedules, and these results could set the safe flight mode transition region to satisfy the turbine inlet temperature overshoot limitation as well as the compressor surge margin. Because the engine performance simulation results without the duct system were well agreed with the engine manufacturer's data and the analysis results using a commercial program, it was confirmed that the validity of the proposed performance model was verified. However, the propulsion system performance model including the duct system will be compared with experimental measuring data, later.

  • lately, vehicle blackbox increasing importance and usability Is needed accuracy and variety of information. because, blackbox help to analyze the exact cause of the accident and use as objective evidence in vehicle-related crime. In the paper, to overcome the limitations of the existing black box, use various sensors and vehicle information blackbox store current state of the vehicle with OBD-II protocol using vehicle state information and store exact current location and direction information of the vehicle with Gyro sensor and GPS and use global time of GPS for synchronization of information. In addition, blackbox back the information up with wifi. because, when blackbox damaged, dirvers were able to verify the information.

  • In this paper, we established a simulation model for transport vehicle that carries the container transportation between apron and yard block on automated container terminal with a perpendicular yard layout. Usually, the efficiency of container terminal is evaluated by productivity of container cranes at apron, and though there are enough support of transport vehicles and yard cranes, can improve the productivity of container cranes. Especially, transport vehicle is very important factor in productivity of container cranes and has variable work productivity according to loading and unloading situation of container cranes. Therefore, a method that can estimate work productivity of transport vehicle efficiently is required. We analyzed work productivity of transport vehicle using simulation model that has state transition of transport vehicle. We performed various simulation experiment and analyzed work productivity of transport vehicle and calculated the required number of transport vehicle by container crane additionally.

  • The ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect each vehicle's position and velocity data and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at individual vehicle or platoon level through V2V and V2I communications. The VISSIM simulation experiments were performed to address the issues in developing the preventive congestion management algorithm proposed in the companion paper. Traffic flow stability measures were developed based on the platoon profile, which enables us to explicitly consider traffic flow stability in traffic flow management. Traffic flow management strategies according to the traffic flow states were proposed: Maintain the equilibrium speed for free flow state, maintain the traffic flow stability by platoon control for critical state, and surpress the shock wave propagation for congested state. And finally potential benefit of the proposed traffic flow management scheme was evaluated based on the simulation experiment results. It is considered that extensive field experiments should be performed to confirm the simulated results.

  • Reduction unit is one of the most important components for railway vehicle because torque of motor must be transmitted to wheels of vehicle by reduction unit. However, According to advanced studies, it has been often broke down due to the damage, fatigue and wear of gear. To solve this problem, defect diagnosis methods of gear have been mainly using the vibration diagnosis technology through vibration waveform and frequency analysis. However, We should know vibration characteristics of normal state reduction unit prior to defect diagnosis. So in this paper, We had analyzed vibration characteristics of reduction unit in order to utilize monitoring system development. Comparison of targets is the vibration characteristics of normal state reduction unit about Electric Multiple Unit(EMU) and the High-speed trains(KTX, KTX II).

  • To maintain the reasonable temperature in the engine is very important to keep the steady combustion state of engine and to prevent increasing of lubricant consump- tion, deteriorating of lubricant, shortening of the life time of engine and decreasing of material strength. The method of energy balance for devided elements of radiator is considered to analyse the performance of radiator. Th data of engine test and vehicle cooling tunnel test are applied to program for calculation of radiator outlet temperature, and this result is compared with outlet temperature of vehicle cooling tunnel test. As a result, the radiator outlet temperature by numerical analysis agrees well with that by experiment. It is concluded that this simulation program is available in developing the cooling system for a new car.

  • In this paper, the performance design and analysis for an Interior Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) that will be used as a traction motor in the e-4WD system of hybrid SUV(Sports Utility Vehicle) and RV(Recreational Vehicle), are investigated using finite element method. In order to improve the accuracy of design, the tolerances of parts and assemblies as well as the material properties of permanent magnet, stator, rotor and winding etc. are considered under the conditions similar to real driving state of motor. Both no load performance test and maximum load performance test, in which real driving state and cooling condition have been considered, are also implemented via proto sample build to verify the validity of motor's performance design.

  • Turbocompounding is a key technology to satisfy the future requirements of diesel engine's fuel economy and emission reduction. A turbocompound diesel engine was developed based on a conventional 11-Liter heavy-duty diesel engine. The turbocompound system includes a power turbine, which is installed downstream of a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) turbine. The impacts of the VGT rack position on the turbocompound engine performance were studied. An optimal VGT control strategy was determined. Experimental results show that the turbocompound engine using the optimal VGT control strategy achieves better performance than the original engine under all full load operation conditions. The averaged and maximum reductions of the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) are 3% and 8% respectively.
