  • This paper presents a mathematical vehicle model to analyze the dynamic characteristics of a vehicle undergoing braking in a turn. Two kinds of field tests, braking in a steady state turn and braking in a J-turn are performed. Computer simulation results are compared with test results and the braking effect on a vehicle cornering behavior is examined. Also, sensitivity analysis is applied to determine the effect of design parameter changes on the response of vehicle dynamic system.

  • A mathematical model and control laws for an Electronic-Vacuum Booster (EVB) for application to vehicle cruise control will be presented. Also this paper includes performance test result of EVB and vehicle cruise control experiments. The pressure difference between the vacuum chamber and the apply chamber is controlled by a PWM-solenoid-valve. Since the pressure at the vacuum chamber is identical to that of the engine intake manifold, the output of the electronic-vacuum booster Is sensitive to engine speed. The performance characteristics of the electronic-vacuum booster have been investigated via computer simulations and vehicle tests. The mathematical model of the electronic-vacuum booster developed in this study and a two-state dynamic engine model have been used in the simulations. It has been shown by simulations and vehicle tests that the EVB-cruise control system can provide a vehicle with good distance control performance in both high speed and low speed stop and go driving situations.

  • An automated guided vehicle (AGV) system is a group of collaborating unmanned vehicles which is commonly used for transporting materials within manufacturing, warehousing, or distribution systems. The performance of an AGV system depends on the dispatching rules used to assign vehicles to pickup requests, the vehicle routing protocols, and the home location of idle vehicles, which are called dwell points. In manufacturing and distribution environments which emphasize just-in-time principles, performance measures for material handling are based on response times for pickup requests and equipment utilization. In an AGV system, the response time for a pickup request is the time that it takes for the vehicle to travel from its dwell point to the pickup station. In this article, an exact dynamic programming algorithm for selecting dwell points in a tandem-loop multiple-vehicle AGV system is presented. The objective of the model is to minimize the maximum response time for all pickup requests in a given shift. The recursive algorithm considers time restrictions on the availability of vehicles during the shift.

  • The objective of this study is to propose a lane changing and keeping method on a curved road for an automatic guidance of a vehicle. It is well known that the speed control of a vehicle in a curved road is essential in terms of vehicle stability and passenger safety because centrifugal force makes a vehicle to be on out of lane.   • This paper deals with the broadband electromagnetic emission test of a hybrid electric vehicle. The hybrid electric vehicle's powertrain system consists of an internal combustion engine and an EV traction motor. Depending on the SOC of the traction battery, these modes change automatically in the running state. The Korea electromagnetic compatibility regulations of KMVSS and UN WP.29 stipulated the evaluation method of hybrid electric vehicles. This study analyzes and compares two test results: internal combustion and electric motor mode. Some problems of test conditions are described and an improved test method is proposed for measuring broadband emissions of a hybrid electric vehicle. As a result, we expect this paper to be used as a consideration for improvement when test specifications are revised in the future.

  • Leading vehicle states are useful and essential elements in adaptive cruise control (ACC) system, collision warning (CW) and collision avoidance (CA) system, and automated highway system (AHS). There are many approaches in ACC using Kalman filter. Mostly only distance to leading vehicle and velocity difference are estimated and used for the above systems. Applications in road vehicle in curved road need to obtain more informations such as yaw angle, steering angle which can be estimated using vision system. Since vision system is not robust to environment change, we used Kalman filter to estimate distance, velocity, yaw angle, and steering angle. Application to active tracking of target vehicle is shown.

  • This paper deals with some analytical and experimental aspects to control a multi-magnet suspended vehicle. Because the response of a multi-magnet vehicle shows mutually coupled interaction, an analytical description of the vehicle dynamics is necessary. For numerical computations, a linearized modelling of vehicle dynamics is dicussed and computer simulation is carried out. And for the experiment, a test vehicle suspended by four magnets has been made and investigated by local control of each magnet. Two algorithms by PID and state feedback control law are used and compared with each other. Some kinds of disturbance characteristics and coupling effects of the width change of the test vehicle are experimented.

  • In ordaer to hold an underwater vehicle at a certain depth, buoyancy that acts on the underwater vehicle can be modulated. In this research, buoyancy that could control depth of underwater vehicle is generated by a buoyancy bag. Solenoid valves are operated by pulse with modulation(PWM) method. State equation, in consideration of the volume of buoyancy bag, pressure inside bag, and dynamic of the underwater vehicle, is derived. This system is very unstable, inculdes modelling error and nonlinearity. In depth control system, maintanance of performance is required., anainst vatiation of systerm parameter and operating depth, and designed. Through the computer simulation, performance is comparerd for each controllers.

  • In vehicle's door wiring harness (W/H) system is more toward to arrange a passenger compartment than a hinge and a weatherstrip. An opening/closing member of a vehicle is attached to a vehicle by a hinge in a manner enabling easy opening and closing of the opening/closing member. Such members include doors, such as side-doors and rear doors, and other opening/closing members, such as trunk lids. This article gives some insight into the dimensioning process, with special focus on large deflection analysis of wiring harness(W/H) in vehicle's door structures for durability problem. The Finite elements analysis for door wiring harness(W/H) is used for residual stresses and dimensional stability with bending flexible. Durability test data for slam test specimens were compared with the numerical predicted fatigue life for verification. The final testing of the component combines the effects of these microstructural features with the complex stress state arising from the combined service loading and residual stresses.

  • In this paper, attitude computation algorithm for a strap down ARS(Attitude Reference System)of an underwater vehicle has been studied. Attitude errors o the ARS using low-level gyroscopes tend to increase with time due to gyroscope errors. To cope with this problem, a mixing algorithm of accelerometer aided attitude computation has been developed. The algorithm can successfully bound the error increase for cruising motion, but it gives instantaneously large errors when a vehicle maneuvers. To improve the performance in case of vehicle's maneuver, a new attitude computation mixing algorithm complying state of vehicle and to manage the adjustment of the gains which are invariant in the existing algorithm. In addition, a gain scheduling method is applied to fuzzy inference composition process for real-time computation. Monte Carlo simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than the existing algorithm.
