The partially restrained smart CFT (concrete filled tube) column-to-beam connections with top-seat split T connections show various behavior characteristics according to the changes in the diameter and tightening force of the fastener, the geometric shape of T-stub, and material properties. This paper presents results from a systematic three-dimensional nonlinear finite element study on the structural behavior of the top-seat split T connections subjected to cyclic loadings. This connection includes super-elastic shape memory alloy (SMA) T-stub and rods to obtain the re-centering capabilities as well as great energy dissipation properties of the CFT composite frame. A wide scope of additional structural behaviors explain the influences of the top-seat split T connections parameters, such as the different thickness and gage distances of split T-stub.
The objective of this study is to construct the watershed management system with link of the non-point sources model and to estimate delivery ratio duration curves for various pollutants. For the total water pollution load management system, non-point source model should be performed with the study of the characteristic about non-point sources and loadings of non-point source and the allotment of pollutant in each area. In this study, daily flow rates and delivered pollutant loads of Nakdong river basin are simulated with modified TANK model and minimum variance unbiased estimator and SWAT model. Based on the simulation results, flow duration curves, load duration curves, and delivery ratio duration curves have been established. Then GIS analysis is performed to obtain several hydrological geomorphic characteristics such as watershed area, stream length, watershed slope and runoff curve number. As a result, the SWAT simulation results show good agreements in terms of discharge, BOD, TN, TP but for more exact simulation should be kept studying about variables and parameters which are needed for simulation. And as a result of the characteristic discharges, pollutants loading with the runoff and delivery ratios, non-point sources effects were higher than point sources effects in the small-scale test bed of Nakdong river basin.

Road runoff water includes various heavy metals (zinc, Zn; lead, Pb; copper, Cu; chrome, Cr; cadmium, Cd; etc.) and pathogens (E-coli and coliform). Since these pollutants are significantly harmful to human beings and have negative impact on water streams, numerous studies have been conducted to determine the characterization of these non-point pollutants from road runoff water. However, since these non-point pollutant concentrations vary depending on road traffic, road construction, and road maintenance, measurement of pollutant loadings in different site is necessary to estimate the effect of road runoff water on drinking water source. The objective of this study was to examine the quality of road runoff water from a city bridge in Seoul, Korea. This study was conducted for two years to assess annual discharge pollution loads. In this study, five key heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, and Cd) and two pathogens (E-coli and coliform) were measured at 18 different events. The pollutant load mass transported was always higher than the corresponding runoff volume for Zn, Cu, and Cd, while Pb and Cr showed similar values between the load mass transported and the corresponding runoff volume. The event mean concentrations were Zn (0.908 mg/L), Pb (0.092 mg/L), Cu (0.141 mg/L), Cr (0.023 mg/L), and Cd (0.006 mg/L). Like Zn, Cu, and Cd, E-coli and coliform values (relatively high in Summer and Fall) are higher at the beginning of each event and decrease afterwards.
Soils in the sloping uplands in Korea are subject to intensive land use with high input of agrochemicals and are vulnerable to soil erosion. Development of the environmentally sound land management strategy is essential for a sustainable production system in the sloping upland. This report addresses the status of upland agriculture and the best management practices for the uplands toward the sustainable agriculture. More than 60% of Korean lands are forest and only 21% are cultivating paddy and upland. Uplands are about 7% of the total lands and about 62% of the uplands are in the slopes higher than 7%. Due to the site-specificity of the upland, many managerial and environmental problems are occurring, such as severe erosion, shallow surface soils with rocky fragments, and loadings of non-point source (NPS) contaminants into the watershed. Based on the field trials, most of the sloping uplands were classified as Suitability Class III-V and the major limiting factor was slope and rock fragments. Due to this, soils were over-applied with N fertilizer, even though N rate was the recommendation. This resulted in decreases in yield, degradation of soil quality and increases in N loading to the leachate. Various case studies drew management practices toward sustainable production systems. The suggested BMP on the managerial, vegetative, and structural options were to practice buffer strips along the edges of fields and streams, winter cover crop, contour and mulching farming, detention weir, diversion drains, grassed waterway, and slope arrangement. With these options, conservation effects such as reductions in raindrop impact, flow velocity, runoff and sediment loss, and rill and gully erosion were observed. The proper management practice is a key element of the conservation of the soil and water in the sloping upland.
A rotordynamic analysis was performed with a dry vacuum pump, which is a major equipment in modem semiconductor and LCD manufacturing processes. The system is composed of screw rotors, lobes picking air, helical gears, driving motor, and support rolling element bearings of rotors and motor. The driving motor-screw rotor system has a rated speed of 6,300rpm, and was modeled utilizing a rotordynamic FE method for analysis, which was verified through the results of its 3-D finite element model. As loadings on the bearings due to the gear action were significant in the system considered, each resultant bearing load was calculated determinately and indeterminately by considering the generalized forces of the gear action as well as the rotor itself. Each resultant bearing loading was used in calculating each stiffness of rolling element bearings. Design goals are to achieve wide separation margins of critical speeds and favorable unbalance responses of the rotor in the operating range. Then, a complex rotordynamic analysis of the system was carried out to evaluate its forward synchronous critical speeds, whirl natural frequencies and mode shapes, and unbalance responses under various unbalance locations. Results show that the entire system is well designed in the operating range. In addition, the procedure of rotordynamic analysis for dry vacuum pump rotor-bearing system was proposed and established.

PURPOSES : Hollows are easily made, and bearing capacity can be lowered near underground structures because sublayers of pavement settle for a long time due to difficult compaction at the position. If loadings are applied in this condition, distresses may occur in pavement and, as the result, its lifespan can decrease due to the stress larger than that expected in design phase. Although reinforced slab is installed on side of box culvert to minimize the distresses, length of the reinforced slab is fixed as 6m in Korea without any theoretical consideration. The purpose of this paper is investigating the behavior of concrete pavement according to the cover depth of the box culvert ad the length of the reinforced slab. METHODS : The distresses of concrete pavement slabs were investigated and cover depth was surveyed at position where the box culverts were located in expressways. The concrete pavements including the box culverts were modeled by finite element method and their behaviors according to the soil cover depth were analyzed. Wheel loading was applied after considering self weight of the pavement and temperature gradient of the concrete pavement slab at Yeojoo, Gyeonggi where a test road was located. After installing pavement joint at various positions, behavior of the pavement was analyzed by changing the soil cover depth and length of the reinforced slab. RESULTS : As the result, the tensile stress developed in the pavement slab according to the joint position, cover depth, and reinforced slab length was figured out. CONCLUSIONS : More reasonable and economic design of the concrete pavement including the box culvert is expected by the research results.
Most of domestic city is served combined sewer system among various sewer system like as separate sanitary, combined sewer system and storm sewers. During the wet weather, sewer and rainfall have been overflowed because it is over capacity of the combined sewer system; that is called combined sewer overflows(CSOs) This research was carried out to investigate runoff characteristics of combined sewer and to evaluate the effective CSOs volume in Hong-Chun gun. During wet weather, SS load of first rainfall at H-1, H-2, and H-3 were 600kg/event, 370kg/event, and 289kg/event, respectively. 55 load of second rainfall were 216kg/event, 113kg/event, and 37.2kg/event. When the first rainfall, event mean concentrations(EMCs) at each site were 702mg/L, 816mgjL and 861.5mg/L. The second rainfall's event mean concentrations(EMCs) were 99.9gm/L, 161.9mg/L, 103.6mg/L. Rrst flush coefficient b at each site were 0.237,0.166, and 0.151. When the first rainfall, the flow containing 80% of pollutant mass of CSOs at each site were 0.55, 0.23, 0.48 in first rainfall, respectively. The case of second rainfall were 0.79, 0.83, 0.81. Most of all, characteristics of rainfall like as analysis of first-flush, CSOs volume, pollutant loadings is investigated to decide intercepted volume for control of CSOs.

Recently, various-shaped coastal structures have been studied and developed. Among them, the submerged breakwater became generally known as a more effective structure than other structures, bemuse it not only serves its original function, but also has the ability to preserve the coastal environment. Most previous investigations have been focused on the wave deformation and energy dissipation due to submerged breakwater, but less interest was given to their internal properties and dynamic behavior of the seabed foundation under wave loadings. In this study, a direct numerical simulation (DNS) is newly proposed to study the dynamic interaction between a permeable submerged breakwater aver a sand seabed and nonlinear waves, including wave breaking. The accuracy of the model is checked by comparing the numerical solution with the existing experimental data related to wave $\cdot$ permeable submerged breakwater $\cdot$ seabed interaction, and showed fairly nice agreement between them. From the numerical results, based on the newly proposed numerical model, the properties of the wave-induced pore water pressure and the flow in the seabed foundation are studied. In relation to their internal properties, the stability oj the permeable submerged breakwater is discussed.
This paper predicts the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with a precast strip of ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). In the first phase, ultimate load capacity of preloaded and strengthened RC beams by UHPFRC was predicted by using various analytical models available in the literature. RC beams were preloaded under static loading approximately to 70%, 80% and 90% of ultimate load of control beams. The models such as modified Kaar and sectional analysis predicted the ultimate load in close agreement to the corresponding experimental observations. In the second phase, the famous fatigue life models such as Papakonstantinou model and Ferrier model were employed to predict the number of cycles to failure and the corresponding deflection. The models were used to predict the life of the (i) strengthened RC beams after subjecting them to different pre-loadings (70%, 80% and 90% of ultimate load) under static loading and (ii) strengthened RC beams after subjecting them to different preloading cycles under fatigue loading. In both the cases precast UHPFRC strip of 10 mm thickness is attached on the tension face. It is found that both the models predicted the number of cycles to failure and the corresponding deflection very close to the experimental values. It can be concluded that the models are found to be robust and reliable for cement based strengthening systems also. Further, the Wang model which is based on Palmgren-Miner's rule is employed to predict the no. of cycles to failure and it is found that the predicted values are in very good agreement with the corresponding experimental observations.
Purpose: This study was conducted to test whether Health Communication Assessment Tool (HCAT) developed by Campbell et al. in 2013 can be applied to assess Korean nursing students' communication skills in simulation education. Methods: The content validity of the Korean version of HCAT (K-HCAT) was evaluated through expert's assessment and a principal component analysis was conducted for testing construct validity. The convergent validity was tested by measuring relationship between the K-HCAT and those of existing communication assessment tool for standardized patient instruction. The evaluation was done by surveying 154 senior students from four different nursing colleges. Results: The K-HCAT was condensed into 15 items from the original 22 HCAT items. Four factors were extracted from the principal component analysis; factor loadings ranged from .50 to .83; cumulative explained variance was 62.65%. Four factors were entitled as 'relationship building', 'empowering', 'empathy/response', and 'education/feedback'. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for sub-dimensions ranged from .73 to .84. An evaluation of convergent validity showed that the scores of the K-HCAT were moderately correlated with those of an assessment tool for standardized patient instruction. Conclusion: The K-HCAT can be used as an effective tool for assessing nursing students' communication skills in various kinds of simulation educations Further research is needed to test the consistency of the K-HCAT.
