The ionosphere, the atmosphere of the earth ionized by solar radiations, has been strongly varied with solar activity. The ionosphere varies with the solar cycle, the seasons, the latitudes and during any given day. Radio wave propagation through or in the ionosphere is affected by ionospheric condition so that one needs to consider its effects on operating communication systems normally. For examples, sporadic E may form at any time. It occurs at altitudes between 90 to 140 km (in the E region), and may be spread over a large area or be confined to a small region. Sometimes the sporadic E layer works as a mirror so that the communication signal does not reach the receiver. And radiation from the Sun during large solar flares causes increased ionization in the D region which results in greater absorption of HF radio waves. This phenomenon is called short wave fade-outs. If the flare is large enough, the whole of the HF spectrum can be rendered unusable for a period of time. Due to events on the Sun, sometimes the Earth's magnetic field becomes disturbed. The geomagnetic field and the ionosphere are linked in complex ways and a disturbance in the geomagnetic field can often cause a disturbance in the F region of the ionosphere. An enhancement will not usually concern the HF communicator, but the depression may cause frequencies normally used for communication to be too high with the result that the wave penetrates the ionosphere. Ionospheric storms can occur throughout the solar cycle and are related to coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and coronal holes on the Sun. Except the above mentioned phenomena, there are a lot of things to affect the radio communication. Nowadays, radio technique for probing the terrestrial ionosphere has a tendency to use satellite system such as GPS. To get more accurate information about the variation of the ionospheric electron density, a TEC measurement system is necessary so RRL will operate the system in the near future.
Tract-Based Spatial Statics (TBSS) after obtaining the image by examining a diffusion tensor image that can determine the presence or absence of damage to the cerebral white matter and gray matter for middle-aged men aged 30 to 50 with the starting age of drinking as a variable. As a result of measuring and analyzing the FA (fractional anisotropy) value of the brain gray matter region to the hippocampal region nerve fibers, the lower the alcohol start age in all regions, the lower the anisotropy measurement value, but the FA value was statistically significant. The study results indicated by the FA results measured in this study are that the earlier the drinking start age, the more severe the morphological changes in all neurological and anatomical brain regions in the hippocampal region of the brain gray matter and seriously affect the nerve fiber tissue. It can be said to harm and damage nerve fibers and affect functional morphological variations associated with alcohol.

Asian Dust samples were collected in the ambient air of Seosan, Western Korea, in spring of 2000∼2002. PM (Particulate Matter) concentrations were 199,8$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ in the first Asian Dust period (March, 23∼24) and 249.4$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ in the second period (April, 7∼9) of 2000. Compared with the concentrations in 2000, relatively low PM concentrations, 157.3$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ were measured in the periods of 2001 (April, 24∼26). Especially high PM concentration 953.1$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ were measured in the periods of 2002 (March, 21∼22). The variation in the PM concentration was observed according to the time for the formation of Asian dust. Considering the particle size distributions of Asian dust, a high concentration was also observed in coarse particle region. The results of backward trajectory model showed the route of the dust storms from northern area of Mongol and Gobi desert. Various mycelia grown from fungal spores were observed on the PM samples and identified at the genus level. All the genera from the three years (2000∼2002), Fusarium, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Basipetospora, Epicoccum and Monotospora are hyphomycetes in the division Fungi imperfecti (Deuteromycota). Fungal composition on the dust sample in March, 2000 was similar to the result of March, 2002. However, the result of April, 2001 was obviously different from the other dust periods. The variations of fungal compositions between the dust periods could be caused by the trajectories of the dust storms.
Active fire products from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite observation during the 16 years from 2000-2015 were analyzed to estimate spatial and temporal variations of wildland fires over East Asia (region of interest: $20^{\circ}N-55^{\circ}N$, $100^{\circ}E-150^{\circ}E$). GLOBCOVER 2009 land cover data were also used to investigate the trend in wildfire occurrence with respect to each land cover type. Statistical analysis showed that the highest number of wildland fires occurred in the evergreen and vegetation covered areas, and strong seasonal variations were found in these areas. Total numbers of fires were 283,683 and 202,543, respectively. In particular, the wildland fires in croplands occurred mainly during summer season and distinguishable increasing trends were found. The correlations between number of wildland fires and air pollutants, such as black carbon, organic matter, and carbon monoxide, were also calculated in order to investigate the intensity of the air pollution caused by the wildland fires. Positive correlation between total column carbon monoxide contents and the occurrence of wildland fire was found. In addition, this correlation was higher than the correlation between fire occurrence and black carbon or organic matter. These results indicate that a significant amount of carbon monoxide originated from the wildland fires and influenced the regional atmospheric environment in East Asia.

The growth of micro bubble has been simulated under the variation of ambient pressure. The Rayleigh-Plesset equation governs the dynamic growth and collapse of a bubble according to pressure and temperature conditions. The Rayleigh-Plesset equation was solved by 4th-order Runge-Kutta method for wide range of pressure variations. As numerical parameters, the pressure difference between initial and final pressures, and the temporal pressure gradient are changed. The results show that the pressure difference has little effect on the growth rate of the micro bubble in the inertia controlled growth region. On the other hand, the growth rate increases linearly with the increase of the pressure gradient.

Pressure variation is one of the major sources on noise emission in the axial type oil piston pumps. Therefore, it is necessary that the pressure variation characteristics of the oil hydraulic piston pumps be clarified to reduce the pump noise. Pressure variations in a cylinder at the discharge region and the pump noise were simultaneously measured with discharge pressures and rotational speeds during the pump working. To investigate the effects of the pre-compression and the V-notch in the valve plate, we used the three types of valve plates. In this research, it is clear that the pressure variation characteristics of axial type oil piston pumps is deeply related to the pre-compression and to the V-notch design in valve plate. Therefore, we could reduce the pump noise by using the appropriate pre-compression angle and the notch design that are between the suction port and the discharge port in valve plate.

In this study, experiments were carried out to measure the variations in the corrosion potential and current density of polarization curves using polycarbonate. The results were particularly examined to identify the influences affecting the corrosion potential including various conditions such as temperature, pH, catalytic enzyme, and salt. The lines representing the active anodic dissolution were only slightly shifted in the potential direction by temperature, pH, enzyme, and salt. The tafel slope for the anodic dissolution was determined based on the polarization effect with various conditions. The slope of the polarization curves describing the active-to-passive transition region were noticeably shifted in direction. Also, from the variation in the conditions, the optimum conditions were established for the most rapid transformation, including temperature, pH, corrosion rate, and resistance of corrosion potential. The second anodic current density peak and maximum passive current density were designated as the critical corrosion sensitivity(Ir/If). The value of Ir/If was then used in measuring the extent of the critical corrosion sensitivity of the polycarbonate. The potentiodynamic parameters of the corrosion were obtained using a Tafel plot.

In this study, to improve an existing ground-wave based time broadcasting system, a study that predicts the field distribution and field strength of the transmitted signal of a new ground-wave based time broadcasting system was performed. The prediction area was assumed to be the Korean peninsula; and to reflect the mountainous terrain of the Korean peninsula in the prediction of the variations of field distribution and field strength, a new prediction method based on the Monteath model was proposed and utilized. As field distribution changes depending on the position of a transmitter station, potential sites for the transmitter station were selected considering the geographical characteristics. In this regard, the ground conductivity information of North Korea cannot be obtained, and thus, the ground conductivity of the North Korean region was reflected considering the geological characteristics of South Korea and North Korea. Based on this, the variations of field distribution and field strength were predicted by setting the Korean peninsula as the prediction area, and the prediction results depending on the position of the transmitter station were discussed.
The rhizome of Acorus calamus Linn. is commonly known as "Vacha" in indigenous systems of medicine. It is distributed in marshy tracts of Kashmir, Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), Manipur and the Naga hills. It is regularly cultivated in Koratagere Taluk in Karnataka and other parts of India. This study deals with the detailed pharmacognostical evaluation of the dried rhizomes of Acorus calamus collected from DehraDun (Uttaranchal), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh). The commercial sample procured from Delhi market was also evaluated to observe the difference between collected and market samples. Dried rhizome is vertically compressed, pale yellow to dark brown and occasionally orangish brown in colour. Transverse section showed two distinct region with scattered, concentric vascular bundles surrounded by fibrous bundle sheath. Some vascular bundles just beneath the endodermis devoid of bundle sheath. Though the botanical and physico-chemical characters of all the samples were quite similar but some variations were observed in High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) fingerprint profile, the essential oil content and total percentage of asarone which was found to be highest in Lucknow and lowest in Delhi market sample. These variations may be explained due to some edaphic factors or storage conditions. An attempt was also made to test antioxidant activity (in vitro) and it was found to be 88% at 0.2 g/ml concentration.

This paper is to estimate the long and short term variations of mean sea level in Korean coastal waters by identifying interrelations among the mean sea level, atmospheric pressure and air temperature along the coast. For this, long-term tidal data observed at tidal and weather observation stations were brought into a statistical analysis. It was noted that, in a general sense, an inverse relationship exists between the sea level and the atmospheric pressure and a positive relationship between the sea level and air temperature, respectively. The maximum difference of monthly mean sea level was in the range of 21 to 25 cm at the eastern and southeastern coasts, meanwhile more than 30 cm being in both in southern and western coasts. It was also noted that mean sea level continues to rise in a long-term basis. Long-term variation of mean sea level trends to rise 0.10 ∼ 0.44 cm per year for each region. However, the long-term variation of mean sea level in the isolated islands shows a different trend, Ullngdo being 0.41 cm fall per year and Chejudo being 0.44 cm rise per year.
