  • In this paper, a tunable image rejection filter using two varactors is developed for mobile convergence. The filter is fabricated on a 0.25um substrate. ESD Pad is embedded to prevent damage caused by electrostatic discharge(ESD). Bias voltages are at WCDMA(2.1GHz). WiBro(2.3GHz), and WLAN(2.45) are 0.5V, 0.95V and 1.8V respectively. And the image rejection rations are more than 28dB at each band and insertion losses are less than 2dB at each band.

  • In this paper, the Single-stage Transmission type Injectiong-Locked Oscillator(STILO) was designed and fabicated for the Active Integrated Phased Array Antenna(AIPAA) system. The STILO, which was designed and fabricated by injection-locked technique and hair-pin resonator, has the same 210MHz frequency tuning range of the Voltage Controlled Oscillator(VCO) used by varactor. The locking bandwidth of STILO with 11.5MHz bandwidth, is much better than that of the Injection-Locked Dielectric Resonator Oscillator(ILDRO), And the STILO has the improved noise characteristics in AM, FM, and PM. This STILO is useful for the AIPAA, the coupled VCO array, an the MMIC structure.

The tunable bandpass filter is constructed as the cascade connection of low pass filter and high pass filter. The designed filter shows the characteristeristics of 2.7.+-.0.2dB insertion loss and 37.1.+-.5.0dB insertion loss and 32.1.+-.2.2dB image rejection. The results of the research can be used fodr the broadband tunable filter of DBS tuner and communication instruments.

  • A voltage controlled oscillator for the local oscillator in 380 MHz TRS handset is designed and fabricated. To improve the phase noise characteristics, the NEC's 2SC4226 transistor with NF=1.2 at 1 GHz and Toshiba's 1SV229 varactor diode with Q=70 are used. And an inductor of VCO is realized by microstrip line. At the bias condition of 5 V and 10 mA, the output power and phase noise in the operating frequency range of 357∼387 MHz are above 3.7 dBm and 111 dBc/Hz at 12.5KHz offset from the carrier, respectively. And FM sensitivity deviation are within ±0.4 KHz. This VCO is well suited for TRS handset.

  • In this paper, a group delay time controller (GDTC) is proposed based on a reflection topology employing a parallel resonator as the reflection termination. The design equations of the proposed GDTC have been derived and validated by simulation and experimental results. The group delay time can be varied by varying the capacitance and inductance at an operating frequency. To show the validity of the proposed circuit, an experiment was performed for a wideband code division multiple access downlink band operating at 2.11 GHz to 2.17 GHz. According to the experiment, a group delay time variation of $3{\pm}0.17$ ns over bandwidth of 60 MHz with excellent flatness is obtained.

  • Multi-band VCO with fast response adaptive frequency calibration (AFC) technique is designed in 1.8V $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The possible operation is verified for 5.8GHz band, 5.2GHz band, and 2.4GHz band using the switchable L-C resonators for 802.11a/b/g WLAN applications. To linearize its frequency-voltage gain, optimized multiple MOS varactor biasing technique is used. In order to operate in each band frequency range with reduced VCO gain, 4-bit digitally controlled switched-capacitor bank is used and a wide-range digital logic quadricorrelator is implemented for fast frequency detector.

  • This paper presents a single-pole eight-throw switch, based on an eight-way power divider, using substrate integrate waveguide(SIW) technology. Eight sectorial-lines are formed by inserting radial slot-lines on the top plate of SIW power divider. Each sectorial-line can be controlled independently with high level of isolation. The switching is accomplished by altering the capacitance of the varactor on the line, which causes different input impedances to be seen at a central probe to each sectorial line. The proposed structure works as a switching circuit and an eight-way power divider depending on the bias condition. The change in resonant frequency and input impedance are estimated by adapting a tapered transmission line model. The detailed design, fabrication, and measurement are discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose an active tunable bandpass filter (BPF) for efficient spectrum sensing in the TV White Space (TVWS) band. By designing a narrow bandwidth, it is possible to improve the sensing probability. The basic circuit configuration involves switching the PIN diode compromising capacitor bank to change the capacitance of the LC resonant circuit. To cover the whole TVWS band effectively, we add a varactor diode, and the bandwidth is set to 25-MHz. We improve the insertion loss by using the active capacitance circuit. The tunable BPF in the TVWS band with a 20-MHz interval is designed to have 11 channels with a bandwidth of 25 MHz and a low insertion loss of 1.7-2.0 dB.

  • This paper presents the design of a 2.4 GHz low phase noise fully integrated LC Voltage-Controlled-Oscillator (VCO) in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The VCO is without any tail bias current sources for a low phase noise and, in which differential varactors are adopted for the symmetry of the circuit. At the same time, the use of differential varactors pairs reduces the tuning range, i.e., the frequency range versus VTUNE, so that the phase noise becomes lower. The simulation results show the achieved phase noise of -138.5 dBc/Hz at 3 MHz offset, while the VCO core draws 3.9mA of current from a 1.8V supply. The tuning range is from 2.28GHz to 2.55 GHz.

  • In this paper a DPDT(Double-Pole Double Through) switch with defected ground structure(DGS) is proposed. The equivalent circuit for the proposed switch structure is derived according to based on equivalent circuit of proposed DGS unit structure. The equivalent circuit parameters of DGS unit are extracted by using the circuit analysis method. The on/off operation of the proposed switch is obtained by varying the capacitance of the varactor diode at the defected ground plane. In the case of ON state, the insertion loss of the fabricated DPDT was shown under 1dB. And in OFF state, we found the rejection characteristic over 20dB at the designed frequency 2.45GHz. The experimental results show excellent insertion loss at on state and isolation at off state.
