  • Hot Standby sparing system detecting faults by using software, and being tolerant any faults by using Hardware Redundancy is difficult to perform quantitative reliability prediction and to detect real time faults. Therefore, this paper designs Hot Standby sparing system using hardware basis self checking logic in order to overcome this problem. It also performs failure mode analysis of Hot Standby sparing system with designed self checking logic by using FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis), and identifies reliability assessment of the controller designed by quantifying the numbers of failure development by using FTA (Fault Tree Analysis)

A Study on the Relationship between Using Computer for Learning and Subjective Achievement in High School (고등학생들의 학습목적 컴퓨터 사용과 고3의 주관적 학업성취도 관계 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the relationship between using computer for learning and subjective achievement in high school. It is also to explore the relationship among gender, school type, subjective achievement and computer use for learning. We conduct structural equational modeling analyses using Korean Child Youth Panel Study (KCYPS) data with 1st grade middle school students panel. We found these results: (a) Using computer for learning effects on the subjective achievement of 3rd grade high school students. (b) Girls more use computer for the purpose of learning than boys during high school. (c) School type has an effect on using computer for learning in high school significantly. From these results, some strategies and guides are suggested in the use of computer for learning.

Speech Feature Extraction Based on the Human Hearing Model

  • In this paper, we propose the method that extracts the speech feature using the hearing model through signal processing techniques. The proposed method includes the following procedure ; normalization of the short-time speech block by its maximum value, multi-resolution analysis using the discrete wavelet transformation and re-synthesize using the discrete inverse wavelet transformation, differentiation after analysis and synthesis, full wave rectification and integration. In order to verify the performance of the proposed speech feature in the speech recognition task, korean digit recognition experiments were carried out using both the DTW and the VQ-HMM. The results showed that, in the case of using DTW, the recognition rates were 99.79% and 90.33% for speaker-dependent and speaker-independent task respectively and, in the case of using VQ-HMM, the rate were 96.5% and 81.5% respectively. And it indicates that the proposed speech feature has the potential for use as a simple and efficient feature for recognition task

  • Many analytical and experimental studies on the active suppression of nonlinear panel flutter by using piezoceramic patch have been carried out. However, these active control methods have a few important problems; a large amount of power is required to operate actuators, and additional apparatuses such as sensor systems and controller are needed. In this study passive suppression schemes for nonlinear flutter of composite panel, which is believed to be more robust suppression system than active control in practical operation, are proposed by using piezoelectric inductor-resistor series shunt circuit. Toward the end, a finite element equation of motion for an electromechanically coupled system is proposed using the Hamilton's principle. To achieve the best damping effect, optimal shape and location of the piezoceramic(PZT) patches are determined by using genetic algorithms. The results clearly demonstrate that the passive damping scheme by using piezoelectric shunt circuit can effectively attenuate the flutter.

  • In today's highly competitive marketplace, it is of great significance for the manufacturing industry to reduce lead-time and costs fur the product development. Since first emerged in 1986, Rapid Prototyping (RP) technology has helped successfully to reduce time and costs. Recently, RP using functional materials such as metal has been researched. However RP using the molten metal has been struggling to resolve several drawbacks, such as dimensional inaccuracy, poor surface finish, post finishing, etc., that originate primarily from the overall deposition of molten metal for each layer. So, the purpose of this study is to develop a new RP technique using sheet metal and projection welding for reducing several drawbacks in occurring RP using molten metal. Also tensile and bending specimens were made by the developed RP process using projection welding and were verified.

  • Human generally uses three methods to keep balance. One of them is using reactive momentum such as swing an upper body or arms. In this study, we proposed a balancing controller for the reactive momentum method using an inverted pendulum. We simplified a human or a humanoid robot as a two-link inverted pendulum having two edges. In addition, we proposed a distinctive condition for controller transition. If a human is pushed, he has to change a balancing controller from using an ankle torque to using a reactive momentum or changing foot placement. When the balancing controller is changed from using an ankle torque to using a reactive momentum, it is required a proper timing to keep a stability and make smooth movement. In the experiment, the proposed controller and distinctive condition were verified.

3D Head Pose Estimation Using The Stereo Image (스테레오 영상을 이용한 3차원 포즈 추정)

  • This paper presents a three-dimensional (3D) head pose estimation algorithm using the stereo image. Given a pair of stereo image, we automatically extract several important facial feature points using the disparity map, the gabor filter and the canny edge detector. To detect the facial feature region , we propose a region dividing method using the disparity map. On the indoor head & shoulder stereo image, a face region has a larger disparity than a background. So we separate a face region from a background by a divergence of disparity. To estimate 3D head pose, we propose a 2D-3D Error Compensated-SVD (EC-SVD) algorithm. We estimate the 3D coordinates of the facial features using the correspondence of a stereo image. We can estimate the head pose of an input image using Error Compensated-SVD (EC-SVD) method. Experimental results show that the proposed method is capable of estimating pose accurately.

  • Gait recognition has advantage of non-contact type recognition. But It has disadvantage of low recognition rate when the pedestrian silhouette is changed due to bag or coat. In this paper, we proposed new method using combination of gait energy image feature and thermal face image feature. First, we extracted a face image which has optimal focusing value using human body rate and Tenengrad algorithm. Second step, we extracted features from gait energy image and thermal face image using linear discriminant analysis. Third, calculate euclidean distance between train data and test data, and optimize weights using genetic algorithm. Finally, we compute classification using nearest neighbor classification algorithm. So the proposed method shows a better result than the conventional method.

A Study on Orientations Interpolation of 6-Axis Articulated Robot using Quaternion (쿼터니언을 이용한 6축 로봇 방위보간법에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the study on orientations interpolation of 6-axis articulated robot using quaternion. In this paper, we propose a control algorithm between given two orientations of 6-axis articulated robot by using a quaternion with spherical linear interpolation. In order to study the quaternion interpolation, We created Inverse kinematics program and Interpolation program using LabVIE$^{(R)}$. The rotation angle of each axis were calculated using both euler orientations interpolation program and quaternion orientations interpolation program. The proposed control algorithm is shown to be effective in terms of motor angles and torques when compared to a conventional Euler angle interpolation, by using both LabVIEW$^{(R)}$ and RecurDyn$^{(R)}$.

  • Recently, many patients related to heart disease have surgical operation by expanding a blood vessel to treat the angiostenosis. So far most angioplasties have been performed using balloon-dilative stent made of stainless steel. Some researchers are studying the stent made of shape memory alloy (SMA) to operate the angioplasty more easily. and there are several papers which introduce the angioplasty using SMA. However, most of the analysis models for stents are constructed using solid elements. So much computing time is required to solve the analysis model. In this study, we suggest the SMA stent model using 1D truss element which is much faster than stent model using 3D solid element. To represent non-linear behavior of SMA, we apply 1D SMA constitutive equation of Lagoudas'. Pseudo-elastic behavior of stent structures is presented as a numerical example.
