Using Focus Group Interviews to Analyze the Behavior of Users of New Types of Tobacco Products

  • Objectives: To characterize the usage patterns of new types of tobacco products (NTTPs) to develop effective strategies for the regulation of NTTPs in Korea. Methods: We conducted focus group interviews to identify the NTTP usage patterns of research subjects. The NTTPs were limited to electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), waterpipe tobacco, and rolling tobacco. We categorized 30 research subjects into 4 groups. The ecigarette group was divided into adult and adolescent groups. Each group contained 7-8 subjects. An interview lasting approximately 2 hours was conducted with each group. Results: Ninety percent of NTTP users used an NTTP in combination with conventional cigarettes. Subjects mostly bought NTTPs online, unlike how they bought cigarettes. Additionally, a great deal of information, such as how to use NTTPs and descriptions of NTTP products, was exchanged through online or offline societies. The primary reason why the subjects used NTTPs was that NTTPs offer a greater range of flavors and aromas than cigarettes. Moreover, NTTPs were felt to be less repulsive than cigarettes. NTTPs were not used as a cigarette substitute; rather, they were mostly used in places and situations where traditional cigarette smoking was not allowed. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, the government should conduct studies on the effects of the combined use of NTTPs and cigarettes on the human body, obtain and provide accurate data regarding NTTP use, and develop and implement polices to ban NTTP advertising, which may arouse adolescents' curiosity, and the addition of flavoring substances to tobacco products.

한글 자음 및 모음 사용을 통해 드러나는 온라인에서의 정서 표현에 대한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study on Usage of Korean Consonants and Vowels for Delivering Emotion)

  • On Korean websites, people often use several Korean vowels or consonants solely, which is the way to express emotion. This way of expression has scarcely been examined seriously, though it is one of the most popular online slangs. This is an exploratory study that reveals how and how much these expressions are used on social media. Data crawling technique was used as a way to examine the usage of vowels and consonants in ordinary situations. 6 'Facebook pages' popular among Korean users are selected, and about 2.5 million comments are collected from posts in those pages. 10 expressions, including 'ㅋ(K)', 'ㅎ(H)', 'ㅜ(U)', are counted and analyzed from the collected texts of comments. As a result, several patterns of using vowels and consonants are found. Especially, 'ㅋ(K)' is used much more frequently than other vowels or consonants, and used more continually. It is also found that the patterns of using vowels or consonants in writing comments changes as the mood of posts or the characteristics of Facebook pages.

사고유형 분석에 의한 승강기 및 에스컬레이터 재해예방 (Accident Prevention for the Elevator and Escalator by the Accident Type Analysis)

  • The elevator is an essential part of the transportation means in modern society. It has become the convenient movement means of vertical and horizontal mobilities for vulnerable citizens including the disabled or elderly in skyscrapers and the multi-purposes facilities. After the 1990s, the number of newly installed elevators have increased because of the establishment of large scale public houses which need an increase of means of transportation. Thus, the safety accident in the elevator has been currently in an increasing trend as years passed by because that the elevator is always exposed to the risk of accident. Most of the elevator accidents occur in the escalator and moving walkway. This study investigated the current usage situations of users at multi-purpose shopping spaces, the sub way, and the airport about the escalator including moving walkway. Moreover the accident types were analyzed for the escalator based on 10 years of statistics. And the methods for the accident prevention were proposed on the equipment, management and user side.

지문 영상 복원 기반의 스마트 기기 지문 스머지 공격 연구 (Fingerprint Smudge Attacks Based on Fingerprint Image Reconstruction on Smart Devices)

  • 지문 인증은 개인의 고유한 지문 특징 정보를 바탕으로 사용자를 식별하기 때문에 유출이나 분실, 망각의 위험이 없으며 편리하고 안전하여 여러 스마트 기기에 적용되고 있다. 하지만 스마트 기기를 사용한 후 남아있는 지문의 흔적은 스머지 공격에 취약하다. 본 논문에서는 사용자의 스마트 기기 사용 패턴을 분석하고 스마트 기기에 남아있는 지문 스머지를 이용하여 손상된 지문 영상을 복원하는 기법을 제안한다. 스마트 기기 사용 시 빈번하게 보이는 행동 패턴으로 구성된 시나리오에서 지문 스머지를 수집 및 복원하였으며 복원 지문 영상을 이용한 스머지 공격의 유효성에 대하여 실험하였다. 실험 결과, 지문 인증 시스템에서 높은 공격 성공률을 보였으며 스머지 공격에 취약함을 실증적으로 검증하였다.

고객 확대를 위한 대학급식소 신설의 객관적 근거 모색 및 급식소 위치에 따른 마케팅 전략 수립 사례 연구 (A Case Study on Establishment of the Authority for Newly-formed Foodservice and the Marketing strategies for College Union Foodservice)

  • This study was designed to : (a) investigate the present situations of a college union foodservice and suggest authority on establishing new college foodservice, (b) estimate the service quality attributes as perceived by students, (c) identify the effecting factor to customer satisfaction, and (d) formulate the plans and marketing strategies for the increasing usage rate of the foodservice in the future. The questionnaire that developed by interviewing student were conducted with 305 male and female students, who were registered for daytime classes. A total of 284 were usable and data was analyzed by the SPSS(ver. 11.0) for the descriptive analysis, factor analysis, reliability test, multiple regression analysis, t-test, and $x^2$. The decrease in the usage rate of college foodservice by the respondents were influenced most by the 'taste of meal' and next by the 'distance'. The service quality attributes of foodservice currently under operation were evaluated above the average only for the 'price' while evaluated generally to be in the lower level of the average or under for others. As the overall level of satisfaction with the college union foodservice, most of the respondents showed the 36% for the ‘dissatisfaction’ and dissatisfied at 54.4%. Two service quality dimensions,"food . sanitation . service" and "price and comfortable environment" were derived from factor analysis and the reasons for decreasing usage rate of the college foodservice both the nearly located group from college union foodservice(NG) and the far away located group from college union foodservie(FG) indicated the ‘poor taste’ and the 'far distance', and the 'evaluation of students' dining room showed a low rating for the factor of "food . sanitation . service". "food . sanitation . service" was analyzed to have more influence to the overall customer satisfaction.

청주지역 일부 초등학교 고학년 학생의 스마트폰 사용시간에 따른 간식 선호도, 식행동 및 생활습관 (Lifestyle, Dietary Behavior and Snack Preference of Upper-grade Elementary School Students in Cheongju according to the Usage Time of Smartphones)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the length of exposure to smartphone and its association with dietary behavior toward snacks, lifestyle, and nutrition knowledge in elementary school students. Methods: Subjects were 372 5th and 6th grade schoolchildren in Cheongju, Korea, and data was collected by a self-administered questionnaire. They were divided into two groups by the time spent using smartphone: moderate (< 2 hours/day) and overexposure (${\geq}2$ hours/day). Data was analyzed using frequency analysis, ${\chi}^2$-test, and independent t-test as well as analysis of covariance when necessary. Results: Approximately half of subjects (41.4%) reported spending ${\geq}2$ hours/day using smartphone. That habit was more frequent among students in the 6th grade, those who received more monthly allowance, and who has a working mother. 63.4% of the subjects reported that they consumed snacks while watching television, using a computer and/or a smartphone and 48.1% said that they consumed snacks while they use a smartphone. Both situations were most prevalent among those with overexposure to smartphone (${\geq}2$ hours/day). We also observed that a higher percentage of subjects from the overexposure group spent more money on snack foods with the preference for ice cream, fast food, and carbonated drinks. Further, those in the overexposure group consumed more ice cream, cookies, and carbonated drinks. In addition, they had less desirable dietary behavior and health-related lifestyle (sleep duration and frequency of regular exercise) compared to those with moderate smartphone usage (< 2 hours/day). However, there was no statistical difference in nutrition knowledge among children with different degrees of smartphone usage. Conclusions: Our results showed that longer smartphone use was associated with less desirable snack preference/consumption and other dietary behavior in elementary school students. Thus interest and positive attitudes towards healthy snacks and diet should be reinforced in nutrition education programs, especially for those who are prone to use smartphones.

사회적 영향력과 모바일 서비스의 사용-확산, 그리고 지속적 사용 및 상표 전환의도 간의 관계에 대한 연구 (The Relationships among Social Influence, Use-Diffusion, Continued Usage and Brand Switching Intention of Mobile Services)

  • 본 연구는 혁신적인 모바일 서비스의 사용-확산 관점에서 혁신적인 서비스의 사용량과 사용의 다양성에 사회적 영향력이 어떠한 역할을 하는지 살펴보았다. 본 논문의 연구모형에 포함된 사회적 영향요인은 크게 두 가지인데 이는 네트워크 요인과 상표 동일시이다. 여기서 네트워크 요인은 사회적인 규범과 네트워크 효과를 포괄하는 개념이며, 상표 동일시는 소비자 개인의 자아정체성과 서비스 브랜드와의 일치성을 의미한다. 먼저 네트워크 요인의 경우 모바일 서비스의 사용량에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었으며, 지속사용의도에도 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났는데, 서비스 사용의 다양성에는 별 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 상표 동일시의 경우에는 사용량과 사용의 다양성에 모두 유의한 영향을 미치며 지속사용의도에도 긍정적인 효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 사용한 충성도 지표는 두 가지인데 하나는 모바일 서비스의 지속사용의도이고 또 하나는 상표애호도 즉 상표 전환의도이다. 이 두 가지 변수 중 전자는 서비스 카테고리에 대한 충성도이고 후자는 상표에 대한 충성도인데 서로 다른 의미를 갖는 만큼 연구 결과도 다르게 나왔다. 즉, 모바일 서비스의 사용량과 사용의 다양성은 모두 지속사용의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으나, 상표 전환의도에의 경우에는 사용량만이 유의한 영향을 주었고 가설과 반대로 사용량이 높을수록 오히려 상표 전환의도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 특정 혁신 서비스를 사용해 본 얼리어답터 고객들이 다양한 사업자의 서비스를 이용해 보고자 하는 니즈가 있음을 보여 준 것으로 이해할 수 있다.

Phonological Awareness Integrated Instruction: The Effect of Analogies/Anagrams on Vocabulary Acquisition Scores

  • Research studies have shown that phonological awareness focused analogies and anagrams can be used as an effective game-based teaching instruction. However, previous studies used analogies and anagrams as separate instructional tools, especially in EFL-related situations. There has been no vocabulary learning in analogies/anagrams instruction provided, nor has there been usage of an integrated workbook for 'vocabulary learning and analogies/anagrams'. This study examined the effect on learners' vocabulary acquisition scores when a truly phonological awareness integrated 'analogies/anagrams and vocabulary learning' workbook was used as an instructional practice workbook. The results show that the phonological awareness integrated instruction significantly increased learners' vocabulary acquisition scores among 40 college students with minimal or basic level of English proficiency.

FlexDesigner:계층적으로 모듈화된 주초의 객체 지향 방식 비다양체 모델링 커널 (FlexDesigner:Object-Oriented Non-manifold Modeling Kernel with Hierarchically Modularized Structure)

  • Conventional solid or surface modeling systems cannot represent both the complete solid model and the abstract model in a unified framework. Recently, non-manifold modeling systems are proposed to solve this problem. This paper describes FlexDesigner, an open kernel system for modeling non-manifold models. It summarizes the data structure for non-manifold models, system design methodology, system modularization, and the typical characteristics of each module in the system. A data structure based on partial-topological elements is adopted to represent the relationship among topological elements. It is efficient in the usage of memory and has topological completeness compared with other published data structures. It can handle many non-manifold situations such as isolate vertices, dangling edges, dangling faces, a mixed dimensional model, and a cellular model. FlexDesigner is modularized hierarchically and designed by the object-oriented methodology for reusability. FlexDesigner is developed using the C++ and OpenGL on both SGI workstation and IBM PC.

유아 놀이에서 의성어·의태어 사용 의미 탐구 (Exploring the Meanings of Usage about Onomatopoeia and Mimetic Words in a Child Play Situation)

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the meanings of onomatopoeia and mimetic words contextually used contextually when children play together. Methods: The participants included 40 children (ages 3-5 years) attending "M Daycare Center" in Seoul and "S Daycare Center" in Seongnam (a city in Gyeonggi-do). Twenty rounds of play observations were conducted at the centers. Once per week from May to October 2015. Results: The onomatopoeia and mimetic words observed were primarily relate to physical movements, sounds, and shapes. These types relate to Max van Manen's life-world existentials, correlating with spatiality, corporeality, and relationality. The characteristics of onomatopoeic and mimetic words used were additive and were used by the children to refine and diversify their language skills and enrich their linguistic imaginations. Conclusion: Onomatopoeic and mimetic words help children design their own play situations based on their creativity and help them share the play with their peers.
