Multivariate Procedure for Variable Selection and Classification of High Dimensional Heterogeneous Data

  • The development in data collection techniques results in high dimensional data sets, where discrimination is an important and commonly encountered problem that are crucial to resolve when high dimensional data is heterogeneous (non-common variance covariance structure for classes). An example of this is to classify microbial habitat preferences based on codon/bi-codon usage. Habitat preference is important to study for evolutionary genetic relationships and may help industry produce specific enzymes. Most classification procedures assume homogeneity (common variance covariance structure for all classes), which is not guaranteed in most high dimensional data sets. We have introduced regularized elimination in partial least square coupled with QDA (rePLS-QDA) for the parsimonious variable selection and classification of high dimensional heterogeneous data sets based on recently introduced regularized elimination for variable selection in partial least square (rePLS) and heterogeneous classification procedure quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA). A comparison of proposed and existing methods is conducted over the simulated data set; in addition, the proposed procedure is implemented to classify microbial habitat preferences by their codon/bi-codon usage. Five bacterial habitats (Aquatic, Host Associated, Multiple, Specialized and Terrestrial) are modeled. The classification accuracy of each habitat is satisfactory and ranges from 89.1% to 100% on test data. Interesting codon/bi-codons usage, their mutual interactions influential for respective habitat preference are identified. The proposed method also produced results that concurred with known biological characteristics that will help researchers better understand divergence of species.

컨조인트분석을 이용한 쇠고기 구이전문점의 이용행태에 따른 선호도분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Preference Analysis according to the Usage Behavior of Grilled Beef Restaurant by Conjoint Analysis)

  • This study aimed to investigate the preferences for the particular menu depend upon a purpose of the events and a time slot. The study set the 16 imaginary profile of 5 selective attributes by using Conjoint Analysis for the customers who ate out at the grilled beef restaurant. The result showed that most significant factors of preference were a sirloin, Korean beef, a traditional interior design, a rice menu and the amount of marbling, in that order. In addition, the study revealed a high level of relative importance depend on the parts of meat cuts and the most preferred factor of the general customers was a sirloin in selective attributes. Next, the country of origin was important. All events showed the highest preference in the parts of meat cuts like the whole consumer group and there was a high partial value in sirloin for the purpose of the events. However, the prime ribs showed a higher level of relative importance when the customers had light meals or they participated in conferences. At the preference analysis of the important attributes and the level of partial value, the most significant factors were a sirloin, a country of origin, a traditional interior design, a rice menu, and the amount of marbling, in that order both in lunch and dinner. In addition, the study found that the parts of meat, the atmosphere in the restaurant, the quality of beef, dessert, and the country of origin were significant in order at relative importance.

영양사의 기호도에 따른 학교급식에서 전통음식의 이용실태와 활용증대 방안 (Utilization Status and Efforts to Increase Usage of Traditional Foods in School Lunch according to Dietitians' Preference)

  • The study was conducted to assess school dietitians' preferences for traditional foods, to determine the association with their perception and usage status, and to develop the strategies to increase its utilization of traditional foods in school lunches. The information was obtained by the self-administered questionnaire from the subjects, which were 198 dietitians in schools located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. According to the preference for traditional foods, subjects were distributed into three groups (High = 54, Medium = 128, Low = 16). The significances of differences between groups were determined using SPSS 12.0 at p < 0.05. Compared to the dietitians with lower (medium and low) preferences, those with high preferences answered that they had better knowledge (p < 0.001) for traditional foods, and served them more in school lunches (p < 0.01). Also, more dieticians in the high preference group not only felt that they need to train school administrators (p < 0.01) as well as themselves (p < 0.05), but also were currently providing students with the nutrition education on traditional foods (p < 0.05). The results presented the evidence suggesting that having dietitians with higher preference for traditional foods can offer an effective strategy to increase the opportunities for schoolchildren to be exposed to traditional foods. Development of the standard recipes for use in school lunches by the government or the association was answered as the best strategy to increase the use of traditional foods, regardless of the dietitians' preferences.

웹 기반 미디어 콘텐츠를 위한 맞춤형 데이터 서비스 (Targeting Data Service for Web-Based Media Contents)

  • 타겟팅 서비스는 다양한 미디어 서비스 환경에서 사용자 프로파일, 선호도 및 사용 내역 등을 기반으로 사용자의 취향에 가장 적합한 서비스를 추천 및 제공함으로써, 서비스의 만족도와 이용량을 향상 시키는 주요한 응용서비스로서 주로 방송분야에서 연구되어 왔다. 타겟팅 서비스는 방송 콘렌츠에서 interstitial 콘텐츠로, 고정형 TV단말에서 모바일 단말로 서비스의 영역이 확대되고 있으며, 단순한 방송 데이터에서 광고 데이터, 쿠폰 및 관련 미디어 콘텐츠 정보 등으로 데이터의 종류가 다양해지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 사용자 정보를 기반으로 기사, 광고 및 방송정보에 대한 타겟팅 데이터 서비스를 설계, 구현하고자 한다. 이를 위해 웹 기반의 미디어 콘텐츠에 적용할 수 있도록 사용자 프로파일, 선호도 및 사용 내역 정보를 기존 TV-Anytime Forum의 사용자 메타데이터 및 OpenSocial의 사용자 정보를 기반으로 새롭게 정의하였다. 또한, 사용자 정보와 콘텐츠 정보간 유사도 및 사용 내역을 기반으로 사용자 선호도 정보 및 행동 패턴 정보를 생성하여 타겟팅 데이터 서비스를 구현하였다. 성능평가를 통해서 제안하는 타겟팅 데이터 서비스 기술이 기존의 방송 서비스뿐만 아니라, 웹 기반의 미디어 콘텐츠에서도 적용 가능 하다는 것을 확인하였다.

조리교육생의 약선 음식 이용 특성 및 교육 참여 의사 - 인구통계학적 특성을 중심으로 - (Current State of Usage and Education Participation Intention for Yaksun Food among Culinary Students - Focused on Demographic Characteristics -)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the current state of usage and education participation intention for Yaksun food according to demographic characteristics. Methods: The questionnaire for the survey was distributed to 300 students, who were enrolled in culinary education program at Seoul Institute of Technology and Education from September 5, 2014 to September 20, 2014, and 264 responses were used for analysis. Results: Awareness regarding Yaksun food was low, but the intention to participate in the Yaksun food class was high. The information searching route for Yaksun food was mainly television, radio or internet. Memil-jeonbyeong ssam was the most eaten menu item and Nokdu-Samgye tang was the most popular menu item. Among the different types of Yaksun food, vegetable dishes, steamed dishes, rice dishes and roasted dishes were preferred in this order. The most preferred educational institution for Yaksun food was the cultural center, and the most preferred educational period for Yaksun food was less than three months. The most important point in the Yaksun food class was practical application in real life. Also, the current state of usage for Yaksun food and the intent to participate in an education program for Yaksun food was statistically different according to demographic characteristics. With respect to the current state of usage for Yaksun food, the information searching route for Yaksun food was statistically different according to occupation, cooking career and lives and Yaksun cuisine type preference according to gender, occupation, income and households. Also, with respect to education program participation intention for Yaksun food, educational institution preference for Yaksun food was statistically different according to gender, age, occupation, cooking career, income and lives. Conclusion: Based on these results, this research concludes that for developing an educational program for Yaksun food, it is important to analyze the target customers' demographic characteristics and their needs. Furthermore, it shows that there is a need to develop various educational programs and menus for Yaksun food.

도시 치유숲공원 조성을 위한 이용선호도 분석 연구 (A Study on the Analysis User Preference for Urban Healing Forest Park Planning Methods)

  • A survey was performed to present a scheme for building a healing forest park inside a city in consideration of the fact that healing forests are located in non-urban areas because of their nature, and are therefore not conveniently accessible to urban population (n=196). As a result, among 196 respondents to the survey, 74.5% indicated that it was necessary to build an urban healing forest park. In the case of the expected usage pattern, were an urban forest park to be built, the largest proportion responded that it would be used to "walk", followed by "rest and meditation" and then "meeting/talk/date". An analysis showed that the largest proportion responded that they factor in "Accessibility" (48%), followed by "Park condition" (16.8%), and "Vegetation type" (12.2%). According to the analysis of usage preference for healing therapy, it was shown that the largest proportion preferred "Terrain therapy" (37.8%), followed by "Exercise therapy" (19.9%), and "Naturopathy" (18.9%). The factor anlaysis of usage preference regarding urban healing forest park facilities showed that the components were divided into "Operation facilities" and "Natural healing space", and the largest proportion preferred "Trails for healing", followed by "Space or forest for meditation" and "Health promotion center", and then "Facilities for a exercise therapy". In building an urban healing forest park, we think that it is effective to introduce zones and facilities in consideration of park characteristics that are centered on everyday behaviors, such as taking a walk, which differ from those of healing forests located in non-urban areas.

전자 저널 구독 정보 및 웹 이용 로그를 활용한 참고문헌 기반 저널 추천 기법 (The Technique of Reference-based Journal Recommendation Using Information of Digital Journal Subscriptions and Usage Logs)

  • 전자 학술 정보 유통의 확대에 따라 날로 증가되는 학술 콘텐츠 서비스 수요에 부응하기 위하여 보다 효과적인 학술 콘텐츠 추천 시스템 개발이 요구된다. 학술 콘텐츠 추천 시스템은 정보 소비자의 과거 이용 내역을 기반으로 각 소비자 선호(preference)에 맞는 학술 콘텐츠를 제공함으로써 콘텐츠 이용성을 보다 효과적으로 향상 시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 특정 기관에 소속된 사용자의 선호에 더욱 부합하는 학술 콘텐츠를 제공하기 위하여 기관의 전자 저널 구독 정보 및 웹 이용 로그를 활용한 저널 추천 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 추천 기법에서는 기관 사용자의 저널 선호도를 효과적으로 예측하기 위하여 기관 유사도(Institution similarity), 그리고 참고문헌의 인용 관계 데이터를 기반으로 저널 유사도(Journal similarity) 및 저널 중요도(Journal importance)를 산출하여 최종적으로 기관 맞춤형 저널 추천 항목을 구성하게 된다. 또한, 제안하는 추천기법이 적용된 기관 맞춤형 저널 추천 시스템 프로토타입을 개발한다. 개발된 저널 추천 시스템은 각 기관의 저널 선호도 예측을 위하여 활용되는 웹 이용로그를 효과적으로 수집하고 이를 추천 기법에 활용하기 용이한 데이터로 가공 처리 하여 별도의 데이터베이스에 저장하여 추천 기법의 저널 선호도 예측을 위한 기반 데이터로 활용한다. 마지막으로 우리는 기존 추천 기법들과의 비교 성능 평가를 통해 제안 기법의 차별성과 우수성을 보인다.

Analysis of Preference of Environmental Image for the Increase and Promotion of Rose Consumption

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the preference of plant environmental images for flower plant consumption. This study came up with a total of four treatments including one image without plants and three images with flower plants (three roses, rose gift, rose garden). We conducted a survey on 104 men and women through the Google (online) survey and analyzed the data. The preference was higher with statistical significance for environmental images with plants than the image without plants. The preference for environmental images of roses was highest in the order of rose gift > rose garden > three roses. As a result of the cross-tabulation analysis, it was found that there was a significant difference in the preference for environmental images of roses according to general characteristics such as educational background and residence type. In terms of educational background, 2-year college graduates showed higher preference for the three environmental images of roses with statistical significance compared to high school graduates, university graduates and masters or higher. As a result of determining the difference in preference according to residential types, residents of multiplex houses showed higher preference for the "rose garden" environment image than residents of detached houses (p < .05). As a result of examining stress and depression in everyday life, 48.1% (the highest) of the respondents answered that they were "under daily stress" and 48.1% (the highest) of the respondents claimed not to be "under much depression". This study investigated the difference in preference according to demographic characteristics and existence of plants, preference in environmental images using roses, correlation with daily stress and depression, and utility of publicity using photographic images of plants.

Residents' Preference for Spatial Features in Sitting Areas at Assisted Living Facilities - Focused on direct or indirect social interaction for older adults -

  • This study investigated residents' preferences for spatial features of sitting areas in assisted living facilities, and provides recommendations for planning sitting areas to support residents' spatial preferences and social interaction. The study participants were 69 residents of eight assisted living facilities (30+ resident capacity), located in south central Texas. A photographic comparison method was used, in which residents were shown 20 matched pairs of photos, with a single feature digitally modified in each pair, and asked to select which environmental representation they preferred. The hypothesized spatial characteristics were identified in practice based literature as those that may encourage usage of sitting areas: viewability, variety, homelikeness, and privacy. Most of the hypothesized features were preferred by participants, with the highest preference found for non-institutional furniture arrangements and naturalness, followed by increasing enclosure and variety of seating. Preference was less significant for domestic cues such as carpeted floors, divided light windows, and boundaries defined by different colored material or columns, possibly due to their physical impairments or preference for visual openness. Participants' level of mobility assistance was significantly related to their preference for some features, such as seating with people-watching capability, and carpeted floors. The findings have implications for facility architects and administrators engaged in resident-oriented spatial planning.

A Future Contraction Effect in Intertemporal Choice for Durable Goods

  • Recent research reported that perception of future time is non-linearly scaled. That is, as objective time gets longer, subjective perception of the objective time does not grow proportionally. The non-linear time perception implies that the same future time feels shorter when it starts in the future than when it starts immediately. The authors call this as a future contraction effect. The current research tests two important implications of the effect regarding consumers' intertemporal preference for durable goods. First, consumers who contract future more will be more impatient for durable goods compared to those who contract less because the former would feel to use the same durable goods longer when it is purchased immediately. Second, consumers' impatience will be alleviated when their tendency to contract future is reduced. The authors find support for these predictions through two studies. Taken together, the current research demonstrates a property of time perception that has important ramifications for understanding consumers' intertemporal preference for durable goods.
