  • It is well known that two representative methods satisfy EURO-IV regulation from EURO-III. The first method is to achieve the regulation through the reduction of NOx in an engine by utilizing relatively high EGR rate and the elimination of subsequently increased PM by DPF. However, it results in the deterioration of fuel economy due to relatively high EGR rate. The second is to use the high combustion strategy to reduce PM emission by high oxidation rate and trap the high NOx emissions with DeNOx catalysts such as Urea-SCR. While it has good fuel economy relative to the first method mentioned above, its infrastructure is demanded. In this paper, the number distribution of nano PM has been evaluated by Electrical Low Pressure Impactor(ELPI) and CPC in case of Urea-SCR system in second method. From the results, the particle number was increased slightly in proportion to the amount of urea injection on Fine Particle Region, whether AOC is used or not. Especially, in case of different urea injection pressure, the trends of increasing was distinguished from low and high injection pressure. As low injection pressure, the particle number was increased largely in accordance with the amount of injected urea solution on Fine Particle Region. But Nano Particle Region was not. The other side, in case of high pressure, increasing rate of particle number was larger than low pressure injection on Nano Particle Region. From the results, the reason of particle number increase due to urea injection is supposed that new products are composited from HCNO, sulfate, NH3 on urea decomposition process.

  • A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous quantitative analysis of methylparaben (MP), ethylparaben (EP), propylparaben (PP), butylparaben (BP) and imidazolidinyl urea(IU) or diazolidinyl urea(DU) in cosmetics was studied by using a cyano-propyl column and 0.05M hexanesulfonic acid at 228 nm. Calibration curves were found to be linear in the 60-1000 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL range (parabens), 100-1,250 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL range (IU) and the 120-2000 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL range (DU). Linear regression analysis of the data demonstrates the efficacy of the method in terms of precision and accuracy. An extraction method is developed and validated in order to apply this chromatographic method to a commercial cosmetic cream. The precision of this method, calculated as the relative standard deviation (RSD) of the recoveries (0.46-2.71%) was excellent for all compounds.

  • From now on, in order to meet more stringer diesel emission standard, diesel vehicle should be equipped with emission after-treatment devices as NOx reduction catalyst and particulate filters. Urea-SCR is being developed as the most efficient method of reducing NOx emissions in the after-treatment devices of diesel engines, and recent studies have begun to mount the urea-SCR device for diesel passenger cars and light duty vehicles. That is because their operational characteristics are quite different from heavy duty vehicles, urea solution injection should be changed with other conditions. Therefore, the number and diameter of the nozzle, injection directions, mounting positions in front of the catalytic converter are important design factors. In this study, major design parameters concerning urea solution injection in front of SCR are optimized by using a CFD analysis and Taguchi method. The computational prediction of internal flow and spray characteristics in front of SCR was carried out by using STAR-CCM+7.06 code that used to evaluate $NH_3$ uniformity index($NH_3$ UI). The design parameters are optimized by using the $L_{16}$ orthogonal array and small-the-better characteristics of the Taguchi method. As a result, the optimal values are confirmed to be valid in 95% confidence and 5% significance level through analysis of variance(ANOVA). The compared maximize $NH_3$ UI and activation time($NH_3$ UI 0.82) are numerically confirmed that the optimal model provides better conversion efficiency of $NH_3$. In addition, we propose a method to minimize wall-wetting around the urea injector in order to prevent injector blocks caused by solid urea loading. Consequently, the thickness reduction of fluid film in front of mixer is numerically confirmed through the mounting mixer and correcting injection direction by using the trial and error method.

  • Ammonia loss from urea significantly hinders efficient use of urea in agriculture. The level of nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) a long-lived greenhouse gas in atmosphere has increased mainly due to anthropogenic source, especially application of nitrogen fertilizers. There are reports in the literature showing that the addition of zeolite to N sources can improve the nitrogen use efficiency. This study was conducted to evaluate nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) and ammonia ($NH_3$) emission by mixed treatment of urea and zeolite in upland crop field. Urea fertilizer and zeolite were applied at different rates to study their effect on $N_2O$ emission during red pepper cultivation in upland soils. The $N_2O$ gas was collected by static closed chamber method and measured by gas chromatography. Ammonia concentration was analyzed by closed-dynamic air flow system method. The total $N_2O$ flux increased in proportion to the level of N application. Emission of $N_2O$ from the field increased from the plots applied with urea-zeolite mixture compared to urea alone. But urea-zeolite mixture treatment reduced about 30% of $NH_3$-N volatilization amounts. These results showed that the application of urea and zeolite mixture had a positive influence on reduction of $NH_3$ volatilization, but led to the increase in $N_2O$ emission in upland soils.

  • As the model compounds, citral and n-octanol which possess similar characteristics and structures of low molecular weight insect pheromones and $({\pm})-5-hydroxy-4-methyl-heptan-3-one$ which shows the aggregation pheromones activity of the rice weevil and the maize weevil were microencapsulated with low molecular weight polyethylene(LMPE) and urea-formaldehyde resin as wall materials. The core materials were microencapsulated as small particles in LMPE and urea-formaldehyde resin polymers and the microencapsulated polymers were white powders. And the polymer made from urea-formaldehyde resin was better than that from LMPE as wall material. The slow releasing effect and the releasing patten of the microencapsulated core materials were examined by solvent extraction method and headspace sampling method. Citral and n-octanol and $({\pm})-5-hydroxy-4-methyl-heptan-3-one$ were release more than 40 days and 15 days, respectively. The releasing pattern of urea-formaldehyde resin microcapsules showed rather smooth decrease than that of LMPE and was maintained at steady level longer.

  • As an alternative method to solve air pollution problem and difficulty of pulp bleaching of kraft pulping process, NaOH-Urea pulping was applied. The properties of NaOH-Urea pulp were compared to those of NaOH and kraft pulps. Addition of urea in low alkali charges retarded delignification rate compared to NaOH pulping. But, in high alkali application, delignification was significantly enhanced not from the addition of urea but from the high alkalinity. It was disclosed that urea did not participate on delignification reaction by the experiment using lignin model compound. Compared to paper strengths at the same level of sheet density, NaOH-Urea pulp gave as almost same breaking length and tensile index as those of kraft pulp. Especially tensile energy absorption and burst index were higher than those of kraft pulp.

  • This studies have been carried out for several years to develop more better urea resin treating process on silk textiles which may be better crease resist without harming on the textile touch feeling. Specially, this paper payed attention to minimize the necessary formaldehyde content to be condensed with urea and created a new processing method which is named as Homo Metalic Urea Resin found to be better than urea resin process. The obtained results are as followings. 1. The prepared urea resin was found to be smell-less because of minimized formaldehyde content is the least than any other reports carried out before than this. 2. A new type of urea resin has been created by using uric 2incchloride and formaldehyde which is named as Homo Metalic Urea Resin. This processing method may carry both weighing process and urea resin process. 3. Crease resistance, stiffness and bulkiness were increased through such resin treats. Homo metalic urea resin process showed better results than the urea resin process. 4. Spun silk or low twisted silk have shown better crease resistance than raw silk or high twisted silk upon the both resin treats. 5. Both treat methods were found to be good economical feasibility upon the silk finishing process. 6. Tenacity and elongation of silk fibers were found to decrease some what because of grafting or weighing results. 7. Wooly silk has been also created with specific urea resin process. Such silk could be obtained by formaldehyde gas treat with urea soaken silk in a chamber, which induced to form scale on the surface of silk fibers.

  • In typical proteomic analysis, trypsin digestion is one of the most time-consuming steps. Conventional proteomic sample preparation methods use an overnight trypsin digestion method. In this study, we compared high-pressure cycling technology (PCT) during enzyme digestion for proteome analysis to the conventional method. We examined the effect of PCT on enzyme activity at temperatures of 25, 37, and $50^{\circ}C$. Although a fast digestion (1 h) was used for the standard protein mixture analysis, the PCT-assisted method with urea showed better results for protein sequence coverage and the number of peptides identified compared with the conventional method. There was no significant difference between temperatures for PCT-assisted digestion; however, we selected PCT-assisted digestion with urea at $25^{\circ}C$ as an optimized method for fast enzyme digestion, based on peptide carbamylation at these conditions. The optimized method was used for stem cell proteome analysis. We identified 233, 264 and 137 proteins using the conventional method with urea at $37^{\circ}C$ for 16h, the PCT-assisted digestion with urea at $25^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, and the non-PCT-assisted digestion with urea at $25^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, respectively. A comparison of these results suggests that PCT enhanced the enzyme digestion by permitting better access to cleavage sites on the proteins.

  • Four urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins were synthesized as a particleboard (PB) binder with the four different initial formaldehyde/urea mole ratio and the final mole ratio of 1.15. The UF resins were characterized according to the standard method of resin adhesive analysis. PBs were manufactured using liquid UF resins at 5 minutes press time and 6% resin solids levels on an ovendry particle weight basis. A total of 20 PBs was fabricated for 5 panel replication per UF resin types. The panels were tested for physical strength properties per the procedure ASTM D 1037. The formaldehyde emission levels from the PBs bonded with the UF resins were tested according to 2-hour desiccator test method ASTM D 5582. There were no significant differences among UF resin types for internal bond strength of PBs. But there were significant differences among UF resin types for formaldehyde emission level of PBs. The results showed that the formaldehyde emission level was influenced by the UF resin types without reducing the adhesive performance.
